Literally brought tears to my eyes. I didn’t know the actor who played Jackie, Brian Tarantina, actually passed away. This is a wonderful, funny as hell show with some touching moments like this one.
Yeah, I kind of recall hearing about his passing at the time and making the connection; and then seeing this episode. They clearly wanted to pay some serious tribute to the actor, and they really nailed it.
You didn't stumble across this, you searched for this, and you cried to this. One of the best monologues I've ever watched, both the acting and the scene itself.
Beautiful scene. A lot of people live their lives in the background and we think "Oh that's just a regular person, he doesn't have much going on. He is just regular". It's the regular ones that turn out to be the most interesting
I cried when I watched it the first time. I cried when I just re-watched it so I could discuss it with a friend. Thank you for this. This scene alone deserves to be nominated for an Emmy Award. How many guys like Jackie have I known? I've been a bookseller. That should tell you. Also I was married to a guy who could "never catch a break" who died in 2016. This is brilliant, makers of Mrs. Maisel. And thank you Alex Borstein for your delivery and committment and all the swearing. Just like my late ex from Long Island could never stop swearing when he was emotional. Thank you.
Jackie's funeral was so sad. To see that he didnt have any friends or people he knew come to his funeral. Huge respect for Susie to bring his funeral to the next room, and what she said was heartbreaking. I was extremely close to crying, I love this show so much
Y'know some would rather write her off as just 'Lois from Family Guy' but Alex Borstein has such impeccable range, this scene was brilliant, heartfelt, and funny she did a great job and I think this is one of those scenes that should be in acting workshops on how to deliver a monologue
This is one of my favorite scenes from this season. I hope Alex gets an award for this monologue, it moved me to tears. I had to watch it twice because I really felt the emotion coming from her. "She better be dead." Gives me a little chuckle through the tears. What a great actress.
Presumably had Brian Tarantina not died, they wouldn't have killed off the character of Jackie and wouldn't have written this funeral scene, but after he did this monologue was intended as much to remember Brian as it was for Jackie,
What a scene. I cried the first time. Watched it a second time thinking maybe I was in a sentimental mood the first time. Nope. Crying again. What a brilliant actor.
Great acting, Great Monologue, I know but can we for a second think about how Jackie’s death will forever be remembered by the people in that room. Susie was going to be what they remember when they think of that old lady! Jackie knew a good close friend was better than a bunch of mid people. Acting is great in my opinion when I start thinking about the world and how characters effect it.
So many great moments this season, and everyone gets a chance to make a speech and shine. But Susie blows them all out of the water and steals the season with this speech. So powerful, and Alex knows how to tug at the heartstrings and make us laugh.
At the last season I missed it when I first watched it but midge mentions Jackie in her video the foundation that was receiving money from susies roast was also in the name of Jackie and I cried that's loyalty friendship
I never even felt when the tears started to roll. But when she said “he never caught a break, he never got ahead” I ugly cried. This was so heartfelt and sad and funny… it was absolutely perfect. Amy Sherman and Dan Palladino are the best writers of our time.
When I was binging this show nonstop, I was the only one. When this scene was on both my husband and my mom walked in the room and were compelled to stay. Both cried. Over characters they’d never seen before. That’s power
...don't get weep-eyed over TV shows, EVER! but her profane, profound and profanity-laced eulogy got to me. BTW, don't forget that a lowly TV scriptwriter wrote the words.
This is heartbreaking because how many of us will often feel like this or the fact that often some people will not be remembered until they die really, and that goes to show...how many of us lose our closest friends and then no one gives a shit about it.
How many times does Alex Borstein have to blast her audiences with both barrels before someone notices that she's a f***ing national treasure? She is one of the most gifted performers I've ever had the privilege to watch.
I loved Brian as Jackie- what did he die of? All I found out was he died...only 60 too, many more years of great acting in him. So sad- missed him in Season 5...
Listen, I'm no monster, I love this scene too, but why at no point during this speech does not one of the funeralgoers try to forcibly escort the crazy woman swearing like a sailor and interrupting another person's service off the stage?
Literally brought tears to my eyes. I didn’t know the actor who played Jackie, Brian Tarantina, actually passed away. This is a wonderful, funny as hell show with some touching moments like this one.
I know. It’s more than anything 😊
My friend is in the movie behind the girl
Wow. Great performance. RIP Brian/Jackie.
Yeah, I kind of recall hearing about his passing at the time and making the connection; and then seeing this episode. They clearly wanted to pay some serious tribute to the actor, and they really nailed it.

One of the best monologues I've ever watched, both the acting and the scene itself.
I stumbled across this.
I searched for it. I just watched it and cried. If this is how my funeral goes I'll be lucky.
100% searched for it. Alex Borstein brought the house down with that one.
I stumbled across this, but I'm glad I did. Made me cry and want to do better.
No wonder she has two Emmys. This scene alone showed her outstanding acting skill.
For some reason "I didn't know Jackie could dance" is the line that hits me the hardest out of this whole thing. Alex Borstein is a master.
Beautiful scene. A lot of people live their lives in the background and we think "Oh that's just a regular person, he doesn't have much going on. He is just regular". It's the regular ones that turn out to be the most interesting
Tears rolling down my cheeks. A testament to really stellar acting. Respect.
This is so sad and well done but also, "Darla better be dead!" is one of the funniest lines in the whole show
I cried when I watched it the first time. SHE'S LOIS?! I had no idea wow now I can't unsee it
Well, thank you, Now i'm just hearing Lois talk. I didn't even know that, thank god I discovered it after this show ended.
Right?! Seriously! I had the same thought, this is such a great monologue. I wish I got to do this when I was auditioning for plays in high school
Alex is simply f'en brilliant!
Really good actors are equally as comfortable in comedy roles as dramatic. Alex Borstein gets to be both in Mrs. Maisel.
This was brilliant beyond belief. This monologue and the end of the season monologue by Lenny Bruce. Beat moments of the season.
Probably one of my favorite moments from the show
Fabulous! Just fabulous. She deserves an Oscar for this.
In this case, it would be an Emmy/Golden Globe. Oscars are more for films rather than television.
she has at least one emmy
Best Eulogy Ever Susie! Great send off for Jackie! Tears!
This is one of my favorite scenes from this season. I hope Alex gets an award for this monologue, it moved me to tears. I had to watch it twice because I really felt the emotion coming from her. "She better be dead." Gives me a little chuckle through the tears. What a great actress.
I don’t think this was acting though bc he was her friend in real life so it could’ve been her own grief
Can't imagine how hard this was for Alex B to do. Rest well, Brian.
Presumably had Brian Tarantina not died, they wouldn't have killed off the character of Jackie and wouldn't have written this funeral scene, but after he did this monologue was intended as much to remember Brian as it was for Jackie,
Susie NAILED IT for all the "Jackies" of the world. Ok, well, the writers did, but Susie delivered those words with such feeling & force. ❤
This scene was everything and it brought me to tears
Alex Borstein is truly fantastic, massive props to her and the writers of this scene, brought a tear to my eye
Susie is totally amazing.
What a scene. I cried the first time. Watched it a second time thinking maybe I was in a sentimental mood the first time. Nope. Crying again. What a brilliant actor.
36 years and I've never shed a tear during a tv show until this scene. holy shit!
I took the day off to cope with the loss of a beloved coworker. Thank you for posting this clip. I needed it to help me feel.
This is a simply stunning performance
This better be nominated in 2023, along with the Coney Island Ferris Wheel bit.
Great acting, Great Monologue, I know but can we for a second think about how Jackie’s death will forever be remembered by the people in that room. Susie was going to be what they remember when they think of that old lady! Jackie knew a good close friend was better than a bunch of mid people.

I'm pretty sure Jackie was a man.
Well written, and amazingly delivered. If people aren't doing this monologue in acting classes going forward, I'd be shocked.
So many great moments this season, and everyone gets a chance to make a speech and shine. But Susie blows them all out of the water and steals the season with this speech. So powerful, and Alex knows how to tug at the heartstrings and make us laugh.

LEGEND ❤
Wow. Not that I want to be forgotten when I die, but I like that eulogy.
What a heartfelt and brutally honest rendition
This brought me to tears when I watched the episode. So well done!

This may be the absolutely greatest piece of acting I have ever seen in my life. Alex Borstein is in a class all by herself!
This was the most powerful scene in the entire TV series. Alex deserves awards for this scene. I cried so much watching this scene over and over.
Jackie was one of the real ones, rest in power.
One of the very best monologues!
When I was binging this show nonstop, I was the only one. When this scene was on both my husband and my mom walked in the room and were compelled to stay. Both cried. Over characters they’d never seen before. That’s power
I was in the background for this scene and I’m happy to say a good 90% of the speech made it in!
...don't get weep-eyed over TV shows, EVER! but her profane, profound and profanity-laced eulogy got to me.
BTW, don't forget that a lowly TV scriptwriter wrote the words.
The people in the other funeral were really cordial, at least, someone did that today and there would be some idiot who tried something
If you know you won't have anyone at your funeral NOW while you're alive, call Susie for that eulogy!😂
By far one of the best scenes in the whole series
Everyone needs a "Suzie" in their life to set the record straight .
Brilliant. Just plain fucking brilliant.
This was her best work in the series. I assume that this is what they submitted to the Emmys.
It blows my mind that not one regular from the Gas Light showed up for his funeral.😡😢😤
This is such a great monologue, I wish I got to do this when I was in high school
She's so good. Fuck, this scene hurts.
Brilliant!
IF ALEX DOESNT WIN AN EMMY FROM THIS ...I SWEAR
It will break my fucking heart
The Marvelous Ms Myerson
I loved Brian as Jackie- what did he die of? All I found out was he died...only 60 too, many more years of great acting in him. So sad- missed him in Season 5...
think i heard it was an overdose unfortunately
Robbed of the Emmy
99.999999% of men are Jackie.
Anyone transposed this?!
Listen, I'm no monster, I love this scene too, but why at no point during this speech does not one of the funeralgoers try to forcibly escort the crazy woman swearing like a sailor and interrupting another person's service off the stage?
They probably had no idea how to respond to a woman crashing the funeral and were probably stunned silent by her monologue.
Because Susie was lucky to crash one funeral filled with people who were not idiots and who realised that an empty funeral is a terrible thing.
