People seem to forget what really happened in this scene and how horrible Shy was. He has all rights to be angry at Midge. Every right. He not only could but should lash out on her by how immature she was and how hurtful her whole act was. Hell, how dangerous, literally dangerous, it was. She sent prejudice against him. Black AND gay is very, very dangerous, specially in the '60. He should tear her apart... and she would let him. The point actually is that he never gave her a chance. He never listened her, let her mend her way. She didn't do it in purpose (which doesn't take away the impact of her acts), she was truly sorry and want not only apologize (because of how much she cared for him and their friendship), but be a better person and yes, be scolded because she knew she should be "punished" by him. But instead he cut all the ties and burned all the bridges. And if was only him ok, but the crew that was supposed to deal with this situations did absolute nothing to manage the crisis. He is the only one to blame for the end of their friendship, and he's the one in the wrong.
