I have been waiting for that review since the PODCASTER PRO II was released...you are always the best with your detailed, professional and honest reviews...Thank you and i wish you all the best, Keep going💪😎
This was a great review. I feel like if this was the kind of thing I needed I would be very comfortable making a decision whether to get the Rodecaster Pro II or not based on the in depth information and demonstrations you provided. As always a fantastic job, Bandrew.
Without doubt the best review of the Roadcaster Pro 2 I've seen anywhere. Only one thing I disagreed with (and that is a personal preference) is that I'd actually like to see more physical microphone faders not less. As it is, I use 2 condenser mics in a booth along with a dynamic mic outside connected directly to the unit for TalkBack/live streaming etc. The 4th is used as a line level input which leaves nothing to spare. Then again when recording VO I go directly into an Apollo twin and that only has 2 inputs. Ultimately, do I need the RPC2? Probably not. One feature would make this a killer unit for me? The ability to integrate directly with Source Connect.
Total home run on that final honest recommendation (and the whole vid). Got this guy to evaluate, tried it for a day, loved it, then, as you said, did an honest reflection and decided I don't need it. May in the future, but for now my solid USB mic is good, I already invested in Hindenburg Journalist, which gives me all the simple yet powerful tools I need, I collaborate with other podcasters but 94% of the time we're on different ends of the world...yeah, this thing is awesome, but it's 700 bucks that could be better spent elsewhere. Good chance I'll be back to it within a year or so. But not now.
When i first saw the RCP2 it was love at first sight. I just had to have it even though i wasn't exactly sure why i needed it or how i was going to use it. Now i'm using it it as my mixer and audio interface and i also do a bit of podcasting with it too. So glad I picked one up on release -- A bit of a rough start initially but quickly acknowledged and resolved by adding in the routing functionality! I also upgraded from the GoXLR Mini and would do it again in a heartbeat 🙂
Wow that's incredibly kind of you to say. Thanks for checking it out and for the really kind words. I hope that the gear you currently have is suiting your needs and you're getting great sounding recordings out of it.
Little brother of Procaster Pro 2, the Prodcaster Duo has very good mic preamps. Gain hungry dynamic microphones have awesome clean sound, much better compared to “cloudlifters”. Suits well for many purposes, audio recording, live shows, DAW input, online calls. Very versatile device. The only caveat is lack of easy way to mute monitors.
It took me two bites to digest this one. Massive effort, Bandrew, and very well done. Dare I say comprehensive. It's certainly more than I need, but I have a friend....
It's very nice of you to be that honest, because most people think they need more and they don't. I have the 1st version and I wouldn't buy the 2nd version because I don't need more. Be creative with what you have.
I literakly watched this video end to end, I have one turning up tomorrow. And totally agree with you, often people dont realise how much time it takes to make even a short 4 minute video. I'm replacing my focusrite 2i2 4th gen with this so I can have an all in one device. I sing and do cover songs every once in a while and having multiple devices is getting a bit much. Thank you for taking your time to put thie video together, not only informative but you're entertaining to watch and listen to. Regards, Nadia.
Love your channel - just discovered you when searching for info about RCP II. Great detailed video...I just purchased one as part of a bundle. Looking forward to ditching the old analog mixer and getting into the digital audio world. Can't wait to set it all up!
Just realized (again), how "playfullable" is the audio world compared to e.g. visual. You can turn one value up and down, and it can be funny, compared to with video, where you need to find more balance almost instantly. Audio hits the core on a more direct way. Awsome review!
I am planning to streamline my setup. I currently use an SSL 2 with an additional dbx 286S connected to an SM7B. I use the setup for gaming and occasional voice-overs or dubbing. Unfortunately, the dbx generates too much background noise, which comes through in recordings. I would also like to record my bass, my Roland SH-201 and my Roland JP-8000 via the interface in the future. My idea now is to replace both devices with the Rodecaster Pro II. What I find appealing about the Rodecaster is that it has various effects such as a compressor, noise gate etc. directly on board. This allows me to reduce the footprint of my setup because I don't have much space in my home studio. An additional mixing console would therefore not occur to me. However, a higher-quality preamp also costs a lot of money, and that would simply be wasted money for my requirements. However, I have the feeling that I would be taking a massive step backwards with regard to the converters. The SSL 2 has really great converters for the price range and a very high-quality preamp. I know, it's all a bit of a mess. But I hope you can help me here and maybe recommend an alternative.
I'm glad you like me! I like you too. Currently wearing my Red Podcastage T. I think we are being "stiffed" by Rode!! They are made here in Australia so no shipping charges, import etc. I live in Australia. I have only found one store that sells them for UNDER $1000! The usual RRP is $1089 which is $750 U.S. Okay rant over. Great review Band aid!!
I have one of these, and for all the streaming perks aside, just the mixer function with the multiple USB's is key. I can technically run 3 pc's with the line in as headphone out if i get really janky. I solved my deskspace issue by using a monitor arm and vesa mounting it. Also allows you to actually see the display instead of the bad angle it is on desk mounted. Definitely the way I would use it. Another function I think worth exploring on your second channel, is the ASIO drivers in something like OBS. This is honestly the way it should be used, I like the stereo mix in OBS, but when you are actually recording to OBS, the different sources are god tier for hotkeying mutes and so forth. There was some major improvements with the latest firmware, but since then, this has been an excellent device for me.
I mentioned ASIO and OBS to Røde somewhere and they said _"For OBS, we recommend using USB Main Stereo (Tracks 1 and 2), ASIO/multitrack record is more for DAWs."_ But I don't get that reply. If it can be done and you can get every input via ASIO so you can do with them what you want in OBS, why not just do that regardless of how they meant for it to be used. In my OBS setup I have my Master L/R Mix from the mixer going to the stream and when I record, I record all sources individually so I can edit how I want with recorded stuff. ASIO would let me do this with the Rødecaster Pro II as well. I don't understand their reply as they do target streamers and gamers too with this product.
Bandrew, you would be fantastic doing demos at NAMM or AES, NAB, etc. Alternatively, you could do the nursing home circuit providing entertainment to shut-ins. But seriously, you should consider demo-ing for the trades, you would be a huge hit & way better than many I have suffered through over the years.
True story: Although I love your videos, I was super tired from work and falling asleep. At around min 27:10 as I am starting to nod off, the clip of your podcast woke me up in laughter as I heard the word, "bung." That took me way back to my days in high school in the '80s! I appreciate the humor! Thanks, buddy! And, of course, thanks for all your content.
Great review! I can really tell the time that was spent making it. I'm on the fence with purchasing this device. Just bought an Earthworks Ethos mic and plan to use it with my MixPre 3 II interface for live podcasting, webinars, streaming, etc. among other things. The ONLY feature I would really gain with this device is the real-time voice processing features. I can probably just do it live in software somehow or maybe consider adding a used ART Voice Channel to my chain for like $300.
Allen - The MixPre3 is a fantastic device, and it even has a built in limiter. The Ethos is a fantastic mic and you don't need to do much to it. I'd say just use those two things together for a few months and see if you end up actually realizing there's a huge issue with your audio that requires further investment. I'm guessing you'll find that it's amazing as is with that level of gear, but maybe you will find that there's one thing that really needs to be fixed, and then you'll be sure you're spending money on something that you absolutely need to. Best of luck, and enjoy that gear in good health, you've got a GREAT setup.
@@Podcastage Thanks for the reply Bandrew! I will use the equipment as-is for a little bit like you suggest. I know in the past though that a little bit of compressor and de-esser at a minimum can definitely help. Not too many options for doing it right live but will take it one step at a time. 👍
I also use a MixPre 6II but with a M201TG as my main mic for streaming and video calls, etc. I love the clean gain and the analog limiter among other features. The RCP2 is nice but not for me.
I really appreciate the kind words. I have one but haven't opened it yet to start testing it. I was thinking more of a comparison to the Rodecaster Pro II because I imagine a lot of the features are the same.
@@Podcastage The thought came to me too ... AFTER I had written the comment. 😂 I also think that makes sense. So I'm looking forward to it. And thanks for your hard work with the reviews.
Really great video, i would see some real latency tests between input signal and audio output between different setups like pc in - headphone out, mic in - speakers out an so on
😭OMG I want dual USB-out so bad but why is the only thing I've ever seen it in this $700 device?! Are there ANY other mixers or interfaces that also offer this??? God I hope they do a mini like you mentioned. Would literally buy it _instantly_
Fantastic review. Thank you for putting in the time and effort to make this as professionally as you do. I have also managed to randomly freeze the device a few times. As for the startup, perhaps Rode could introduce a sleep state instead of a complete shut down, and perhaps that would help with the slowish bootup time. Thanks Bandrew.
Great job as always Bandrew!! Thanks!!.. I finally got one.. familiar with audio interfaces, can't get the Bluetooth connected phone (tried different phones) to pick up much signal from the RCP2, the audio going to the caller. Very faint, even the sound effects get out to caller, but faint. Have latest firmware, phone audio plays music great. Recording to micro storage produces great output sound from my mic and sound effects at the RPC2, but very little sound volume sent to caller using BT, almost inaudible, but there is some sound. So caller gets almost no audio out of the RPC2. Tried every imaginable routing for BT, tried different BT settings at phone, multiple phones/brands etc. My setup at RCP2 is only wall/power supply plugged in, Wifi connected and the BT connected to smartphones with no USB connection to computer. I noticed the monitor icon on the RPC2 was yellow slashed out, figured that's because I have no monitors attached. Anyone have any ideas? Faint output sent to smartphone caller via BT from RCP2 is the issue. Have support issue opened for a while, but though someone may shed some light.. thanks!!!
I don't have one of these devices I was considering it but what happens in Canada is we get double priced ie $US converted to $CDN so I'm not sure if it's worth spending best part of $2000 with a decent mike desktop arm and the device itself just to go the XLR route. I currently use a fantastic piece of software on my mac called 'audio hijack' by 'rogue amoeba' look it up this works with my iphone and any other device, it's well worth trying the cost is minor but what you can do with this is almost limitless 10/10
Would love to own one some day but as it is right now I don't have an actual use for it considering my current stuff does the job just fine but it's definitely on my wish list for sure.
Has anyone run into a problem with the USB-C to PC connection. The RCP2 doesn’t stay connected. Microphone input bounces from connected to not connected. I don’t know if it’s a cable issue, a device issue or something that could be updated and fix via a firmware update.
Great review. Have you also noticed a slight hiss in the headphone outputs. It seems it's not the headphone preamps, as the noise does not get louder when you turn the HP volume up, but remains at a constant base level. Not much, but it is there.
Podcastage.... always fantastic! Was considering upgrading from the 1 to the 2. But I don't think that I will use all of the features. I don't even use the features on the 1
watched it from start to finish and absorbed all the info 😀.. YES I need it in my life,. great review, good job as always. more power to you and your channel.
Love your content. Thanks for using a format and not wasting my time. Question: I use the RCP 1 in several studios for interviews with people that don’t do a ton of interviews. I’m concerned that the latency in the RCP 2 will be a distraction for non-broadcast folks. Because if this I’m seriously considering staying w RCP 1 for new purchases. Thoughts?
@Podcastage, may I ask you what editing software you used to make the final product for this video? Do you have any videos on the software side of things? TIA, Aaron
@@Podcastage - I picked up the Streamer X for the capture card and Unify software. I would probably move to the Mackie DLZ in the near future and sell the id44 and arturia studio...(just a thought) Yikes!
Good video! I've heard in several reviews that there's a latency in the headphone monitoring, so hearing your voice back with a slight delay. Is this something that has been adressed by now?
Your reviews are really very good! Between you and Curtis, I feel very confident what the device is going to be like! The hard part is durability - are knobs and faders only held by the solder on the circuit board, or are they properly affixed with screws or an equivalent attachment method.
This is on loan, so I don't feel comfortable tearing it down, so unfortunately I can't answer that. I'm sorry. Rode does have a very responsive customer support team on twitter (and probably through e-mail too), where you could probably get an answer to this question.
I´d love to see something like this more seriously geared towards music production. For that, at the very least it would have to have motorized faders and a master channel. Having a DAW controller and dual USB audio interfaces in one device would be killer.
Let's get this straight: Bandrew, your voice was made for the NT-1 and the NT-1 was made for your voice. Match made in heaven. Great vid! But you missed the opportunity to play that "airhorn" at least thrice in the video :-D
I have been waiting for this most excellent review since you announced it a fair ways back. I am glad I waited, well done. There is one question I had hoped would be answered here more than a "depends on your use-case" type affair. That question is: How does the Rodecaster Pro II compare to the TASCAM Mixcast 4?
The preamps of the Mixcast 4 have the same noise floor as the RCP 1. So you can extrapolate there based on that comparison. Then it legitimately does come down to your use case. Do you need the multi usb output, do you need the midi controls, do you want the instrument inputs, do you want the more full fledged operating system and processing options from the RCPII?
@@Rommsey RIGHT! B&H had the Mixcast 4 on sale for $300 for one day last week. I picked one up...still trying to decide if I have enough need though! 😂 Hard to justify spending over twice the cost for sure!
This is the best and most complete review of this product I've seen 👏👏👏 I just bought a Rodecaster Duo to get voicemeeter out of my life😅, and I'm dying to start tinkering with it. PD: I've seem other videos from you (mics, hp, interfaces,...) But with this one you get a new subscriptor 👍
I also had that same hang up when importing a show, I've had mine for about a month and it also has only happened once. I'm sure a future software update will solve this.
A useful and awesome review! Keep up the good work!! As for the RCP 2, it is indeed a very powerful device that offers huge functionallity, but as you said it is not for everyone and i really think it's a good idea to think carefully before you spend 700$, because if you don't need all that, maybe you should look into something else, but again Great job as always👍
Wow, That was a full review. Theres nothing left that you didnt put in. Thanks. It looks perfect for recording and overdubing guitar and the like. Just a lil too pricey for me
Bandrew...thanks for the time and effort you put into your videos. I can always depend on you and Curtis Judd to not waste my time. Is there something you miss from the first version of the RCP that didn't get into the RCP2? Just curious. Also, to confirm, with the RCP2 I'll be able to run my Apollo Twin interface and processing into the RCP2 to combine with the RCP processing? Thanks pete
I have a three piece band that plays "karaoke style" live shows. Two vocalists and myself on Guitar with some vocals (pubs and very small shows), playing along with pre-recorded backing tracks (cover tunes that I have re-recorded all of the instruments too). I can see this being used to control everything that will be driving three monitors for the stage and outputting the mains to the P.A. (think small!). This might do everything that I need to handle three mics. Let me know if there is a better solution. The Yamaha is really nice but only has two mic preamps.
In the absence of a 1 or 2 channel version, what would you suggest for those who need high gain due to their dynamic mic choice. Zoom Podtrack? I use Heil PR40s and they need lost of clean gain. I mainly do Zoom presentations. Great review!!!

It was an awesome review; however you didn't mention the TRRS connection?
Great review! All your work is highly appreciated! This would replace my Soundcraft Signature 12 MTK, my dbx 286s and my headphone amp which is connected to Group 1-2 on the mixer. And replace Voicemeeter on my two systems which I use to send game sound from the game PC to the streaming PC and microphone sound from the streaming PC to the gaming PC (so I can get in-game voice when I want to). And on top of that, give me a lot more functionality since I get the functionality of the dbx 286s (and more) to all sources. I really want to try this thing.
@Rhys Morgan how is it so far? Also, what microphone are you using? I was debating on getting RCP2 or motu with dbx 286s for noise gate. Want to be flexible where I can create videos, music, livestream.
I challenge you to come up with a device without any knob or slider wiggle. Wiggle is a trade off b/w ease of movement and the stability of knob or slider. What good is a device that will have no wiggle but you really have to push hard to move the knob or slider?
Put on a good pair of headphones and do an A / B comparison with the audio from this video and the audio from the Rodecaster Pro II and the NT1 4th Gen. on this channel: The Rodecaster Pro II with the NT1 4th Gen. audio is less muffled and has less noise.
I beg you to help me with this question before I make my purchase. I am stuck between the nt1 you're talking into or the Audio Technica 2035 you recommended. Which is better?
Great review. I’ve had this device since day one and absolutely love it. The initial software bugs have been worked out thankfully but that was to be expected as an early adopter and as always RODE really are listening. I use this on my daily live streams on my channel and love it. Thanks for all you do.
Could you make it theoretically also so with that you can make zb the microphone over Line 1 loud and softer and zb on Line 2 Game Sound and on Line 3 Music and on Line 4 Discord or more ?
Maybe they assumed that most had the RCP1 so going to the 2 they would be familiar. However, I do see where you’re coming from when companies “upgrade” units, but somehow they’re downgrading other things
How is the audio quality of the RCP2 compared to Scarlett 18i20 Gen 3 or Motu M2/M4? On par/better/worse? For 700 USD I could also start to think about a Mixpre II for example, if I only focus on audio quality of the interface
What bugs have you found? I only ran into the import show issue where it got hung up, but I wasn’t able to recreate it. If you have some other bugs, I’d love to try to recreate them.
@@BandrewScott well.... I can't really use its windows app to update its firmware... I have to use Wifi to actually update it.... and I had issue with ASIO Driver.... turns out its the Rode's "O" with the slash (/) has some issue to deal with my Traditional Chinese Windows 11, I need to change the file directory to actually make it work. Had abit of hard time to set Compressor and noise gate.... I am using it to stream, and sing Kareoke. And I thought I can use the PADS to control OBS, but actually you need to install a plugin to make it work.... o well, I still like it very much, it sounds way better than TC Helicon's GO XLR....
I wanna get the duo, but I've heard many ppl complain about high latency and no real time monitoring on the rcp 2 and that concerns me. Any opinions about it from someone who got it?
People were saying there's no zero latency monitoring on the RCP2? I had zero latency monitoring on mine. Either rode released a firmware that made this a functionally useless device, or those individuals got a broken RCP2. They 100% should have zero latency monitoring on the RCP2. I don't have any opinions outside of what I shared in this 40 minute video that covers everything I experienced with it. I know some people had issues with sound pads being activated randomly, and that's the only thing I can think of as far as additional complaints I've heard.
Wow, this is the most complete review on the RCP2 I found on RUclips. Thank you so much!

I've been considering RCP2 but went with Apollo Twin X instead. The quality of the UAD plugins seems to be higher than the "APHEX processing".
Nice review. I was considering recommending this to a client, and your walk-through helped me decide to recommend it. Thanks
thanks for letting show this beautiful rodecaster. im very impressed to get one soon!
@@skyace888How did it go in the end? Are you happy with your setup or u end up adding more?
@@London_drives I'm actually not podcasting much anymore but I use the mic and MixPre as my main setup.
Best review i've seen on the web. Will you do one for the RODECaster Duo, too?
Amazing review. Is it possible to record only one of the inputs on the SD card? I mean is it possible to assign what goes to the recording?
Hi, Bandrew! Hope you some day can do the review of "Zoom L-8"; excellent work as always.
Big hug from México.
If you want it smaller...you would have to cut not only the other two mic inputs, but the sound pads as well
Would love to own one some day but as it is right now I don't have an actual use for it considering my current stuff does the job just fine but it's definitely on my wish list for sure.
All your reviews are excellent bro. Thanks for what you are doing.
Thanks for the kind words and for watching.
@Telegram 👉podcastage is that a yes? :-)
great job Bandrew! Well done, Sir...
this was exactly what I needed - thank you, bravo
Podcastage.... always fantastic! Was considering upgrading from the 1 to the 2. But I don't think that I will use all of the features. I don't even use the features on the 1
your reviews are unreal. glad you are here
watched it from start to finish and absorbed all the info 😀..
TIA, Aaron
Hello Mr. Scott, they listened; they brought out a single mic with Streamer X, and, 2 mic Duo...sending love and peace to everyone...
Yes sir. Really cool stuff. Thanks for the reminder.
@@Podcastage - I picked up the Streamer X for the capture card and Unify software. I would probably move to the Mackie DLZ in the near future and sell the id44 and arturia studio...(just a thought) Yikes!
Very good video- shows me what I'm ready to get into. I like you too and this was very helpful to hear your opinion and ideas here.
Fantastic review. I was in search of such kind of review for a long time. Thanks a lot.
You're very welcome Khalid. I am happy to know the video provided what you were looking for. Happy recording!
Dude, excellent review! I hope you do a review of the new Rodecaster Duo.
Thanks for the suggestion Wade. I think I may do one on that.
I love this! One of the best walkthroughs I have seen!
That question is:
How does the Rodecaster Pro II compare to the TASCAM Mixcast 4?
The preamps of the Mixcast 4 have the same noise floor as the RCP 1. So you can extrapolate there based on that comparison. Then it legitimately does come down to your use case. Do you need the multi usb output, do you need the midi controls, do you want the instrument inputs, do you want the more full fledged operating system and processing options from the RCPII?
@@Podcastage But it's $700 :D Thank you so much for your reply and review. Top notch!
That's very kind of you to say. Thank you very much for the nice comment. Glad the video has helped.
Thanks pete
So the also removed the smartphone input one the back.
Love the question, be honest with yourself. Another question: how much of this power do you have already in your other devices? With some effort.
How this great channel dont have 1 billion subscribers?!
I have absolutely no use for probably 90% of the functions on this. But I want it so much I almost need it 🤣
Thank you sir! Well done review and I appreciate the honesty at the end.
Thanks for another great review. Much appreciated.
Thanks for the detailed review, Bandrew! I wasn't expecting a GI Joe PSA "Body massage" reference in this video but I appreciated it nonetheless 😂
Enjoy your PORKCHOP SANDWICHES!
That was a great video and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was very informative just like all your other videos.
Best review I think I’ve ever seen
Exactly on the boot up time. Takes what seems to be forever.
I had a DBX286s and Motu M2. Sold the DBX kept the M2. Replaced with the RCP2. No regrets at all.
Put on a good pair of headphones and do an A / B comparison with the audio from this video and the audio from the Rodecaster Pro II and the NT1 4th Gen. on this channel:
The Rodecaster Pro II with the NT1 4th Gen. audio is less muffled and has less noise.
Moin. a question?
Could you make it theoretically also so with that you can make zb the microphone over Line 1 loud and softer and zb on Line 2 Game Sound and on Line 3 Music and on Line 4 Discord or more ?
Very thorough. Love the funny sounds and voice tests.
Thanks for watching. Glad it was helpful.
Oustandingly thorogugh. Thanks for review. Watched ever minute.
Thank you so much! Happy to know it was thorough for you. Hope it was helpful. Have a great day.
Maybe they assumed that most had the RCP1 so going to the 2 they would be familiar. However, I do see where you’re coming from when companies “upgrade” units, but somehow they’re downgrading other things
Hey Bandrew, do you think you'll ever review the new Mackie DLZ Creator XS?
Very helpful video. Thank you for taking the time.
How is the audio quality of the RCP2 compared to Scarlett 18i20 Gen 3 or Motu M2/M4? On par/better/worse?
For 700 USD I could also start to think about a Mixpre II for example, if I only focus on audio quality of the interface
I got this few weeks ago.... like it very much...
as a stream interface, it need abit of bug fixing
