Honestly, as an Irishman I can’t see South Africa losing this tomorrow. Ireland and Irish teams have very much been in the post-World Cup blues this season. All of the teams, from provinces to national side, have been below standard and the mix of continuity and less changes has kind of meant that there isn’t a feeling of a clean break for a new era. I like that Andy Farrell is experimenting with Jamie Osborne at fullback but honestly wished he’d go even further and blood other players. South Africa to win by 12
I think they definitely have looking at the age of our current players- many won’t have another World cup in them (our pack is like between 32 - 35). Glad we can start blooding new talent 👏🏻
i know it isn't the fashionable take right now, but i'm almost more interested to see an improving england team play scott robertson's new zealand. absolutely epic weekend ahead
Something that stood out to me from the wales game was the boks willingness to run against the grain. Go infield then suddenly turning out to look for gaps between drifting defenders. Tony brown has mentioned taking pollard back to the type of gainline running flyhalf from his early days but I suspect he wil be offloading right before contact to a forward pod who wil change their impact point as well. It looks like the boks won't try to outsmart the opponent but rather mentally fatigue them by constantly changing the picture and offering so many possible scenarios that defenders need to think more to the point where the physical fatigue and mental fatigue leads to performance loss.
This game will be very different from the one they played in the WC. The absence of Sexton, JGP and Keenan is massive. But this is still a class Ireland side. Then the Boks trying to evolve their game with the likes of Brown, will also change the dynamic on attack. Just hope they managed to shake the rust against Wales, because they will have to be sharp to beat the Irish.
