    I'm at 1:36 in the video Foam and wanted to chime in. I just used my CNC to carve pockets for all the drawers of my toolbox in Kaizan foam. The trick to getting clean cuts is #1 try using a foam cutting bit, I used the Amana 46272 and #2 use Conventional cutting not Climb. Very clean cuts. And if you want ultra clean lines use your laser to cut and peel the bulk out with your finger. I used my 14W J Tech to label my sockets, wrenches etc. and it is super clean and visible on the all black foam. Back to your awesome video!

      Thank you for the tip!
      I used an O-Flute bit for the foam. I think because of the density of the foam, that was as good as it would get.
      But you've certainly given me food for thought about using the laser.
      I didn't have the laser when I attempted the foam, but I will certainly try it now!
      That is a great idea!!
      Thank you for the feedback and thank you for watching!!

      Beautiful project!
      I also wanted to chime in and comment on the foam cutting. The key is definitely using the conventional method. I use a 3/8” compression bit so that I have a clean top and bottom surface. Hope this helps.

    Hey man Im a good ole southern boy myself so disregard the handle.
    That pirate ship cutting board somehow came across my suggestions and Ive been watching your videos for a couple hours.
    You said that you didnt call yourself a wood worker but any person that puts that amount of work into something is most certainly a craftsman worthy of the title.
    29:04
    I am a tool and die maker by trade among other things. Jack of all trades and master of SOME.
    You were expressing difficulties in sanding the checkering and i have a suggestion for you... checkering files and yes that is a thing lol. There are also die makers or gunsmith rifling files, There are several different names with the same basic design.
    What you are looking for is a triangular file with a gentle radius that forms a hook almost. There are seferal types of widths and angles in steel, diamond and carbide.
    Check out a gunsmithing supply for checkering files. Those are what was used before cnc routers. Look at a machinist supoly for diemakers or rifling files. Also search sanding sticks at those places. Amazon has them as well. Keep up the goid work. I look forward to your next videos.

    • @MandSWoodworks
      @MandSWoodworks  3 месяца назад

      Man, I didn't remember until you mentioned it, but I actually have some of those type of files deep in my toolbox.
      And they are OLD!!
      I inherited them, along with some other old tools when my father died many years ago and I had forgotten that I had them!
      Thank you for the suggestion!
      I will dig those things out and have them at the ready for the next time I need to sand in tight places!
      Thank you, and thank you for watching!!

      I didn't buy the laser bed specifically for the Jtech laser. I actually already had it on hand when I had bought the first laser in the video that ended up dying on me, so I just used it on the CNC.

    I got that same Jtech 44 watt laser this week, haven't installed it yet, been getting comfortable with my Laser Tree 20w. It does seem like a nice kit for my Longmill MK2, been trying to to engrave aluminum and stainless but unsuccessful so far with the Omtech Spray. Nice work as usual, really enjoy your work. I am also converting one of my 3d printers for a laser. Laser feels like cheating compared to the CNC plasma and Cnc router work. You can really get some really fine details with the .005" laser beam. I'm going against the mainstream, running in Ipm LOL

Didn't mean to get off topic with your video, You have the best videos and projects, thanks, keep it up.

    Omg! The laser can be mounted without removing the spindle?! Before getting my Onefinity I kind of planned to also get the JTech. But after mounting the machine and discovered that you also need to tram the spindle, I gave up the idea of getting the laser because I thought I’d need to take the spindle out to mount the laser, and I would not be willing to tram the spindle every time I would do that. Your video opened my eyes, even if you didn’t specifically pointed that out. Thank you so much!!
    Btw… I bought that rotary and a driver (not the exact same one that you have, but was also suggested as a related item when purchasing the rotary). But it collects dust for now, because I can’t figure out how to do the wiring. Searched a lot on Masso’s website but couldn’t find something that I could understand, or which would clearly show me how, as a conplete noob, zero electrical or mechanical knowledge.
    Also… saw some Masso review on yt mentioning that if you have a rotary, you can only set it to be along the X axis…. Which would be a bit of a bummer to me… because I also have the qcw frame from Onefinity, and I think the best way I could orient a rotary and have it somehow plug&play, would be along the Y axis, between the qcw frane t-tracks…

    • @MandSWoodworks
      @MandSWoodworks  2 месяца назад +1

      The mount that they come up with to attach the laser head is fairly clever. You don't have to alter anything to retrofit the mount to the carriage. The only small issue that I have had is that static mount that is bolted to the carriage interferes with the dust boot if I lower the spindle too low. But other than that, it's fine.
      Regarding the rotary:
      Masso doesn't care which way you run the rotary. You determine the X or Y direction in Vectric when setting up the rotary tool paths. So yes, you can run it along the Y axis with no issues.
      Wiring up the stepper and the stepper driver is fairly straight forward.
      If you bought the same rotary I am using, then this is the color code for wiring the stepper to the stepper driver:
      Red wire=A+; Green wire=A-; Yellow wire=B+; Blue wire=B-; +Vdc= Positive power from power supply; GND= Ground from power supply.
      The link below shows a diagram of how you wire the stepper driver to MASSO. You would need to wire into the A-axis channel:
      docs.masso.com.au/wiring-and-setup/setup-and-calibration/axis-servo-stepper-examples
      I hope this helps.
      Thank you for watching!

      @@MandSWoodworks thank you for the detailed response! Somehow, I didn’t manage to get to that exact page on the Masso docs. That is exactly what I needed. I wonder if you considered using felt or leather over your foam to add to the high luxury aesthetic you have achieved?

    • @MandSWoodworks
      @MandSWoodworks  3 месяца назад

      I did consider using felt.
      I bought a couple of yards of it with the idea of covering the foam for the very reasons you mentioned.
      But despite my best efforts at trying to make it look elegant, it would bunch up so badly the entire tray ended up looking like a soup sandwich.
      Very sloppy looking.
      So I opted to just leave the foam visible.
      To get honest, I'm not 100% happy with it, but it seemed to be the lesser evil.
