2024 Introduction to Biophysical Techniques
The LMB Crystallisation Facility aids LMB scientists to obtain high quality crystals of purified protein, DNA, RNA, small molecules or any combination thereof for structural biology. Users are able to screen a broad range of initial crystallisation conditions using automated protocol using robots to dispense in pre-made MRC plates. Following initial screening there are several optimisation protocols to aid success.
In this video Fabrice gives an overview of all the automatic liquid handling robots in the facility. He detailing the different types of dispensing systems giving examples of their use in projects including: crystallisation plate set-up and optimisation of conditions; RNA seq; and combinatorial barcoding SLIT-seq. He shows how the nano-litre dispensing capabilities of an acoustic displacement ejection robot was utilised in a fluorescence polarisation-based compound screening assay. Lastly, he considers the costs involved in running a liquid-handling facility.
