I like them Both
I liked both, but the original holds a special place in my heart, due to nostalgia.
I prefer Hocus Pocus
I really liked how Dani and Max's sibling relationship was portrayed, with him not hesitating to save her from the witches, and her hitting the sisters with her candy bag to get them to leave Max alone. They felt just like natural siblings.
I am one of three triplets and I can relate to having differences but we always put it aside when it matters most
I'm an only child, so the sibling relationships (both Dani/Max and Binx/Emily) meant a lot. 😀
Yeah I preferred them over the new main kids. Because they were more relatable. The new teen trio were just not doing for me.
they should have brought them into the second movie as adults
I agree. It was adorable.
I love how in the original film the Sanderson sisters were villains. True villains. The stakes were high, children died. When the sisters failed and were destroyed, it was deserved. Too often these days the “villains” are too sympathetic, it erases any real feeling of conflict and the morals of the story are gone. The parallel storylines between Max and Binx (about loving and putting your life on the line for their family) are an underrated part of this movie and what makes it a true classic to me.
Exactly, let the villains be villains.
I agree
Yeah, but do we really need a portrayal of villains? In life there ARE no villains. Villains aren't realistic and isn't art meant to imitate life? There's no such thing as a "good" guy or a "bad" guy, there's just normal, complex humans who sometimes do good things and sometimes do bad things.
And, I personally think, if there's anything we NEED to portray, we're much more lacking in empathy and compassion in this world than we are in villainous evil! Is it really a bad thing to show that even the "bad guy" can be worthy of deeper understanding? That people who hurt people usually do so because someone hurt them? That people who do bad things are still capable of change?
If the witches hadn't been essentially destroyed by their own folly, I'd like to believe that Becca's gesture of kindness would've made a difference to them. We saw Winnie transform from vindictive and angry to gracious and humbled, I can't imagine she would've been so insistent on the same destructive trajectory if given the chance to live on after that. I think that says something about the power of empathy and kindness.
I don't know, maybe I'm too much of a naive "sunny side" kind of person, but I didn't necessarily find it a bad thing to show the witches had some humanity 🤷🏼♀️
@@lblincoe2094 no sometimes simple is better especially in fiction. Let the villains be villains
I definitely agree. They put too light of a spin on this sequel. I appreciate the backstory, but where the original kept it campy AND dark, it felt like the sequel was all camp. It’s partially a sign of the times but I also felt they could have made it darker and made them more villainous than they did
The second Hocus Pocus had some funny scenes. And it was so cute to see the Sanderson Sisters as children. The young actress playing a child Winifred did so good 👍👍👍
However, as a 90's kid, the original has my heart forever ❤️ It's disappointing the original cast of kids was not part of the sequel. I would've liked to see Ice and Jay come back 😂 And of course, Max, Dani and Allison 💕
Ice and Jay probably didn't survive after being trapped in the first movie.
The actresses that played the young Sanderson sisters nailed it, especially for Winnfred. She did awesome
The one for Mary was doing the lip thing which I thought was incredible
The first one will always be a timeless classic, and the sequel is fun to watch but it's not perfect it's average. and i will give props to the actors especially to the one's who portrayed the young Sanderson sisters they really nailed the roles in my opinion!
And i liked the ending to HP2, it was both happy and sad at the same time.
The original Is way better than the new one 😍😍😍😍😍
Same
No the new one. It looks way fresher
@@Makiahmcknight1268 fresher? It looks like a modern sitcom
That’s cause the sequel is TERRIBLE
@@Makiahmcknight1268fresh!? Of course it looks fresh, what a stupid comment.
You got Round 4 wrong.
The original Hocus Pocus definitely had more heart! 💕
Thora was apparently set to return for the sequel as the girls' teacher, but clashing schedules prevented her from rejoining the cast. It would have been interesting to see her back to her roots.
At least her career has made a comeback since her father almost ruined it.
If she comes back for 3, maybe I’ll watch.
I loved seeing the Sanderson Sisters as children!!
I know villain deaths are satisfying but seeing them go bought tears to my eyes
I loved “One Way or Another”. It was so perfect.
From “I Put A Spell On You” to “One Way or Another”, I love the songs
When she said “we’re the originals”, I love that part!
The fact that they had to defeat the Sanderson sisters without magic in the first one makes the story more challenging. I loved and miss that. The first one all the way!
I LOVE hocus pocus!! I've just bought a black flamed candle, a candle with hocus pocus written on it, and a pumpkin with the sisters on it
part of the reason the sandersons were defeated in the first film was because they didn't understand the love between Dani and Max. I mean, even when Sarah and Mary get turned to dust by the sun, Winifred doesn't hesitate to continue to suck the soul out of Max. She doesn't show any hurt or sadness about her sisters turning to dust, just urgency to finish what she started.
That’s exactly why I found the end of the sequel to be quite awkward and unjustified
@@manuelorozco7760 it felt inconsistent with the first one.
@@calebray1834 Precisely
I was sure what Winifred valued most was her looks (as the first movie repeatedly told us) rather than her sisters.
The first one was suspenseful and the second one was hilarious. We love them both.
Wait so you liked it hilarious then creepy
I didn't need a list to tell why the original was better but this was a fun watch
Both are incredibly good Halloween movies and I love both of them! :)
I love Hocus Pocus. I enjoyed the sequel too, but I was hoping they would’ve brought back either max or Dani. They could have had Dani who moved back to Salem with her daughter who happens to be one of the girls in HP2.
Maybe I would have enjoyed the sequel if that was the case
"Come Little Children" will always feel creepy to me, since I first heard it as a 12 year old. I was a kid. The original will always win for me - I feel like it had a more rounded story with depth, sacrifice, suspense, disturbing aspects, and a happy ending, plus I could relate to the kids. But, I do have to give it to the kids who played the young Sanderson Sisters. They nailed those roles perfectly. And I straight up cackled at Mary's roombas. :D
As for how they know the lyrics to modern songs, I'm thinking Hell's recording studio can also tap into radio waves. :)
I absolutely LOVE Hocus Pocus the original, but I think Hocus Pocus 2 is pretty great too 😊❤
I prefer the original
@@manuelorozco7760 I prefer neither
@@estheroangel Oh who asked you
Nah I prefer the first one.
Something I don't understand. Why Tackery's sould was freed in the first Hocus Pocus, but Billy's only in the 2nd one?
I have to say I love both. I’m lighting the candle 🕯 🕯🕯
I personally like the first one better. It was just iconic! The second one was a fun romp and it was fun seeing the sisters in the 21st century. Also can I just say Bette Middler does not age!? What kind of magic is that!
Bette Midler is a really good entertainer on stage. Her concerts were really good 👍
Wasn't so fond of One Way Or Another. Winnifred's lightning was also thicker if u compare the cgi. It was also cool to c Sarah and Mary's very own red and purple lightning. There was a changed in 2, for in the first it was said that the book was given to Winnifred by the Devil, but the second reveled it was another witch, dubbed the Mother Witch.
I feel like the original Hocus Pocus is the Superior film and though Hocus Pocus 2 started off strong I don't particularly like some of the new characters especially the mayor who is very annoying. I didn't really care about the teenagers in this sequel. I felt that the movie trying to make it clear that the one teenager was a witch was a little annoying and it just sort of felt like a Mary Sue character when they got into trouble. I also didn't like how when the Sanderson sisters came back they broke into song. it felt ridiculous. even though I'm a huge musical theater fan I feel like the first Hocus Pocus they didn't just break into song even "Come Little Children" was a siren song which makes sense in the context of the movie and "I Put a Spell on You" was a spell of disguised as a song which they did a similar thing with "one way or another" in the sequel but it also felt out of place. there were a hundred things I didn't like about the sequel and even though it's not an awful sequel It's not one that I probably will watch again unless its with my friends. I also hated what they did with the ending where they try to make Winifred have a change of heart which felt like a totally different character. One thing that I liked about the original movie was that the Sanderson sisters were unapologetically evil and yet you still like them because they were super funny and over the top but in the sequel they try to make them more sympathetic which ruined it for me.
Agree with everything you said.
The word "virgin" was mentioned 9 times in the 1993 movie
I prefer the original Hocus Pocus 💖🧙♀️
I agree with this, while not surpassing the original I got a lot of good vibes out of Hocus Pocus 2. It's the best sort of sequel that can stand on its own. Well worth the 29 year wait.
Another Disney Vs. Episode: Zombies Vs. Descendants
I feel like the costumes in Hocus Pocus 2 look a lot cheaper than they do in the original.
YES. Also the actors are to old to be to do the movements
I love both films 💕💖
I love "I put a spell on you" but the flash mob and production value of "one way or another" is better in my opinion.
Just watched both movies & I think I have to say that I like the first one better.
So do I
Watch it again! The first wasn't popular when it first came out.... so like it, the 2nd grows on you! They're like addictive... the more you watch the more you want to! Hahaha
The first hands down.
The first one definitely had a better story .
I think the second because of the Walgreens-
....
You know what nevermind
The first Hocus Pocus will always be my favorite. :)
You don’t need to watch this 13 minute long video to know that the first one is infinitely better.
This movie scarred me as a kid... Now it's my all time favorite movie. The second wasn't bad, but nothing lights a torch to the first.
Or a candle
This first one is my fav i just didnt feel as connected to the mains in the second on as i did the first mains
The original was my favorite lol but the 2nd was funny and added a lot of back story to the original which was nice 😊
Top 10 Cartoon Network Halloween Specials!
Yes
I like the 1st one more
Hocus Pocus all the way! The sequel can't compare.
Can we please get a list on a different world. One of the most impactful shows and one of the most successful black sitcoms. A lot of people started going to hbcus because of it. The show touches on many important things. The show is considered ahead of it's time because shows at the time weren't addressing the issues a different world did.
I like them Both
The second one was ok...
BUT THE OG WILL ALWAYS BE BETTER!!💕
My favorite character from this movie (and its sequel) it's Sarah (specially her song "come little children") anywho it was a Nice "Vs" video to sit through , happy friday Ms Mojo and i hope to see You soon for more like this , take care and God bless You.
The more I watch Hocus Pocus 2, the more I like it.
Honestly both of them are great!
The original one is still top notch but the second one does have its charms.
Beetlejuice VS The Ghost and Molly McGee!
One way or another, WatchMojo, it’s awesome either way
Heart should’ve gone to the first Hocus Pocus
Overall, prefer the good old original tbh.
I heart Hocus Pocus and the fun sequel
Hocus Pocus 2
Pros:
-We see the Sanderson Sisters origin story
-Call backs to the first movie
Cons:
-Call backs to the first movie: They rely heavily on the callbacks, to the point where the movie doesn't really have its own identity
-Weak character development
-Secondary characters that the movie could have done without
-The Sanderson Sisters don't pose a threat, nor do anything that makes them seem like they're dangerous
-Winifred, Mary, and Sarah didn't seem to learn anything from the previous movie. One of Winifred's first words is that they won't get tricked again, but they get tricked instantly.
-The reason how and why the witches were brought back
-Inaccuracies with the lore and information given from the first film
-How Winifred, Mary, and Sarah got the spell book
-The spell Book having a mind of its own
-The ending
The first movie is better and I rather stick to that.
What I really didn't like about the new one is that they didn't sing I put a spell on you
I think the original Hocus Pocus is better then the squel but both were good
Hocus Pocus has my vote.
I have watched and loved the original since it came out. Was disappointed in the sequel till almost halfway thru but then I started really getting into it. I've watched it a 2nd time and wanted to watch it again a week later! You have to remember.... the 1st was poorly received in the beginning.... then became a classic. I believe the 2nd is going to follow it! It is really good on its own merits if your not trying to look for the actors and storyline from the 1st! I'm officially hooked! Both are my October watching! And can't miss either!
both I like both I a cant wait to see the new one
I actually love both ❤
I liked them both !
I love both movies and I have them both on my halloween TV list along with Halloween town and moms got a date with a vampire to twitches/twitches 2
Very very great fun list I like it a lot very great job mis mojo one of my absolute favorite list ever 💗
I love both movies. Actually, I just saw the new movie tonight?
I love both movies
Oh, please. The original beats the sequel handily. The only part that I thought might qualify as an improvement was giving Billy a speaking role.
This had no business being close. First one is way better in every way here.
I loved the beginning of Hocus Pocus 2 because those girls acted that really well. I love both movies
I loved both films the sequel would have been better if all the original cast came back
Both films were great in my ‘Boooooook’
OG Hocus Pocus wins in all categories in my book. Having Winifred, Sarah, Mary and Billy barely was enough to make the sequel watchable. I’ll watch 3 if Max, Dani and Allison are back or mentioned.
Hocus-pocus, of course nothing better than the original
Growing up in the original hocus pocus I’ve got to say that it’s the best out of the two it’s obvious why
They should have put and endings category in here. Because i honestly think thats HP 1 had a better ending. I was kinda dissapointed that winnifred sacrificed herself for "Sisters" 😂
I like both of them
houcs poucs is so amazing
Hocus Pocus ONE forevermore
One way or another, the second does not put a spell on you like the first. The first had the classic 'good vs evil' theme, and the children ended up being the downfall of the Sanderson Sisters. The second doesn't hold a black candle to the first. The sequel was better suited to streaming , or future airings on Disney's cable channels (Which feature the OG yearly around Halloween). For those not subscribing to Disney+, wait a year for it on cable. You won't miss out on much by waiting.
Hocus pocus and Hocus pocus 2 sarah she my favourite
I wonder if the cat is the first talking animal in cinema history
Maybe mr. Ed lol
I prefer hocus pocus 2... Simply because there's less influence from the Satanic Panic, that gives the production the ability to portray the Sanderson sisters in a complex light.
The OG.
Both movies are awesome
How do the witches know the songs:
I just figured someone in hell is singing it to them. Or the devil gives them some magic way of keeping up with the times musically. Or just magic! Hahaha
With this movie, that's the least of my concerns. There are definitely other potholes.
I love the new one much more
Nothing beats an original. As Sidney Prescott said: "Don't fuck with the original".
Not even a contest, the first one is way better. The second had some fun moments, but I think it was missing the Binx character.
Hocus pocus 2 is the best
The original was the best. I watch it every year for Halloween.. The second was cute but had a lot of repeats from the original and didn’t have “that feel” the first had..
The first one. I watched the second one a couple of weeks ago. It was dull. I know the first one is not perfect, but the movie has been a cult following and popped up every Halloween.
我很喜歡這部電影。。,第一集,我有看
The original is still the best. The new kids were "asleep" the whole movie - They felt very slow and low energy. Bette, Kathy and SJP just fell right back into their original roles so wonderfully, that it just made the new kids look even slower. And the ending of the new movie was just bad. I hated the "misunderstood villain" thing they tried to do, like they did to Angelina Jolie's Maleficent. Just let them be evil witches, like was pre-established in the original. That's how we like them. That's how we fell in love with them. "friendship was the real magic all along" is so lame.
The OG wins on every level!
