Again a huge thank you again to Silverlake for allowing us to do this.guys please check out there socials the links are in the description show some love 👌👍
That was such an eye opener Rob,a really interesting video, the scale of the site is breath taking, you be certainly kept fit walking around picking parts😁
I have to agree Rob it’s a different level of professionalism when it come to salvage, extremely impressive, would love to see the whole de-pollution process, I think that would be very interesting, particularly if you or the operators could talk us through what they do. Thanks as always, keep them coming please.
i used to work at silverlakes and in the depollution side of things what is done is all cars that go to the salvage side all liquids are kept in the cars but all breakers/scrappers have all there liquids taken out so if you need a fuel tank you have to get 1 before it gets depolluted as the tank is pierced with a vacuum steak to remove it with coolant its drained the same way oil is done then bottom hose is cut and with air con its de gassed and then a pipe is cut to be safe of pollution i hope this helps with you query :p ps i worked there for 3 years and enjoyed every minute of it
When I was an apprentice tech in the 60's I bought my first car , a Renault Dauphine with a blown engine £10 , whizzed across to Silverlake and removed an engine from a wrecked Dauphine , another tenner . Happy days . In those days the cars were stacked in a muddy field , always good to see a company develop into what we see today amazing !
By Christ your showing your age a bit , remember buying my first car ,an A35 van for £4 - 10 shillings finding a Healy sprite engine complete with carbs ,only 17,000mls for £9 . Most of the subs on here wouldn't know what your car was .55yrs ago .
The best part of Salvage Rebuilds is that you’re a decent regular guy Rob (and Chris of course). Keeping it real with genuine enthusiasm and no ‘BS’. Love the channel, the format and content is brilliant 👍🏼👍🏼
I love the Silverlake videos! They should be thanking you. You’ve highlighted just what a superb operation they are running. I will almost certainly be buying parts from them, because of your content. It’s good that you enjoy it there as well. I hope they appreciate how enthusiastic you are about their business. Thank you for sharing with the rest of us!
Thanks Rob for putting up with the cold to bring us this video, I love seeing what’s in these yards and wondering how easy it would be to get these cars back on the road- really enjoyable 👍👍👍👍

What an amazing facility. Very different to the scrapyards of 30 years ago where I’d climb up a stack of precariously balanced cars to grab the parts I needed!
Thanks a lot to Silverlake for enabling Rob to make this interesting video. Their operation is a far cry from the old days of wading through mud, oil spills, and goodness knows what else to attempt to locate a part at random. Thank you.
What an amazing facility and business I will certainly be using them in the future and I would never have known about them but for your videos Rob, thanks again for another great video 👍🏻
Rob yet again you go the extra mile for your subscribers and viewers .Brilliant video on the inner workings of silverlake .Most of us was unaware existed to that extent .This video has shone a light on buying used spares .It as certainly done it for me .The amount of time i have risked buying second hand and got my fingers burnt.Seeing this video .I have total faith in buying from silverlake in future .I'm guessing many others will now do the same .This will be a massive help to the community👍
Rob and Chris have continue business forever. This is parts heaven. I can live here taking parts off for every car. This is good place for young guns to learn how to strip cars.
WOW WOW WOW what a place it takes salvage to a whole new level. I honestly did not know where to look first. Thanks Rob , I have now added Silverlake to my web browser and recommend others to take a look at what they have its amazing.
Great video Rob, I used to love climbing over all the cars back in day in a scrapyard, now youre not allowed to even go near em, health and safety taken the fun out of everything.
What a place, I could spend hours just looking around , it would be a brilliant place to visit id get carried away id want to buy so much ,you could build a proper nice project car . Keep the vids coming rob +Chris always a big thumbs 👍up from me.
I too like the look of the old Jag, You and Chris could work your magic on it give it a bit of well deserved TLC. I bought a 1998 XJ8 Sport last week, now trying to work out how I’m going to keep it in petrol!! I’m lucky to have a very understanding wife. Great video, many thanks to Silverlake for allowing us to see behind the scenes again, it’s an unbelievable set up, I couldn’t go there it would be like putting a kid in a sweet shop. Take Care Stay Safe Everyone Regards Dave 👍😎🏴
Rob, imagine this. You and Chris have a fully kitted out workshop in the corner of that yard an first pick on any new inventory with full access to the entire stock to fix it. Or even a genuine collaboration they can sell you expensive cars that they have the bits to fix for a better price as you'd be name dropping a lot.
Amazing place. I have spent many happy hours in scrapyards (I know you call them salvage yards nowadays) and love to see them. I have to admire how well organised this yard is. As an Engineer and Mechanic, it is very well organised. I'm amazed how little damage some of these cars had to end up in a salvage yard. That's not recycling. What Rob and Chris do, and many others, is true recycling.
@@marciabaldwin2506 I hope it does get salvaged, just amazing its ended up there and not the sort of place most people looking for a classic car project would think to look.
@frog- eye Couldn't help noticing your ID thing. I had one of them in old English white when I was 20 and it then was 21. Explaining to the kids that it used to be a different world then and this car had no door handles so to get in you slid the window open from outside, reached in and lifted the door handle. Likewise having a boot with no boot lid was also something they struggled with but to be fair so did I. What fun though, even with an 850cc engine, it was like a two seater go-kart.
@@andrzejs7335 Yes I understand that, but I'm guessing somebody has already done a calculation as to what the car is worth as a whole and in parts, so if it doesn't sell it gets broken for parts?
So clean and clinical, a far cry from when I used to go to breakers back in late 80's climbing cars stacked 4 high just balancing on each other. Amazing how things have come along. Great to see, that lot would keep you and Chris busy for the rest of your lives :-)
The stacking facility is top notch. So much better looking. Easy access for the forks. Was really taken aback when you spun round and revealed the extent of one row. Great vid.
an average car takes around 1-3 days pending on size of car i stripped a model x in 2.5 days from complete to bare shell and a classic mini in 1-5 days all cars are stripped by 1 person but there are atleast 8 ramps for stripping and 6 for depollution
been there a long time silverlakes,my localish yard.nice you can pick your parts still.the place has expanded massively recently, but the excellent service has stayed the same.really pleased you are doing these videos guys.
That’s an amazing place and it just shows how easily cars get written off these days. Great video Rob, cheers👍 Looking forward to a Merc video soon then😁
As i have said before when I lived in Southampton I did visit the yard a few times. It has expanded since then. Just up the road Ford used to build the Transit, moved out about 15 years ago I think. If there was a defect in a body assembly they would be taken to a metal recycling yard in the city, they were not allowed to sell any part of the bodies. I don't know if Silverlake have a contract with the docks for any casualties when loading on to the ships, it is rare but accidents do happen there. It would be Rangerovers and similar makes, could be why some if those cars are very new? Anyway that was a good video Rob thanks for posting it. I think it would be interesting to see the fluid removal process at some point in the future but only if you are going there to collect some parts. Once again Rob thanks. 👍👍
I’m impressed, clean, tidy and well organised. I went to a salvage yard near me in Grantham. It was scruffy, muddy. Oil everywhere. Poor organisation. I was sent to walk around to find what I wanted. No help. I’m amazed.
Silverlake is local to me, it’s changed loads since ‘back in the day’ we used to be aloud to go in and take off parts yourself and you’d see cars with no wheels on, one on top of another. What a place it’s become now 😮, thank you for gaining access and sharing it. 🙌🏻
What a place and what a level of organisation👍 it's just amazing! Great content Rob😀 Hope Chris had a well deserved rest in Cornwall? Yes you should definitely go back n film more if allowed 👍
What a well organised yard, very clean and presentable credit to the owners and all the staff that work there, I’ll be using them in the future. Thanks for the video Rob. 👍
What a quality place to let you film, the organisation and how polite they are is unreal! Shows the company ethos when everyone is polite as they are! Unreal!
Saw the previous vid you did Rob and that was certainly a taster for this one. Really good that you decided to go again as it's certainly an eye opener the way everything is laid out.

Very interesting Rob. Millions of pounds worth of spares great content. Thank you for your time and effort . so far 160 dislikes 👎 are car factors that sell brand new car parts.
Data makes this possible now. Old school scrap yards need to note this . Although, who doesn't like to have a rummage? It is the new Era of recycling and record keeping which can only be a better thing in the big picture. Thanks Rob.
That was awesome to see! Been to so many breakers yard in my life and have never seen one like this! Truly on another level! What a cool place to wonder in!
Waking up in hospital after a blackout & realising you missed salvage rebuilds UK great video Rob that place is unbelievable just how huge it is loved the last tour & loved seeing this latest tour 👍
That yard at Silverlake reminds me of a yard I often visited (and is still there) in Wokingham, it’s called A1 car spares, love that place, you take a hi-vis and walk around and there is a guy with a forklift truck driving round, you can ask him to get a car down for you and then they leave you to your own leisure to remove parts off the cars yourself…. Literally love it, don’t know of any other places that let you do that….. might be worth a trip Rob
Amazing place. They've obviously invested serious money in that infrastructure and deserve the success. Got the sense the owners have a good attitude towards business also Great video 👍
That place is staggering. Love to see how they determine what is for sale when the cars come in. They probably would not show this. Who knows? Nice vid, Rob.
I remember going to a scrap yard with my mate , filling my pockets with light bulbs for his Triumph Dolomite and anything else you could get in your pockets. I was with a work mate once, helping him get a part off of a Mk.2 Escort. Took 3 bloody hours, scraped knuckles, and the part wasn't even in the best condition. Scrappy asked stupid money for it, knowing we'd spent so much time getting it off, that my mate wasn't just going to leave it behind ! Great video, Rob. Sadly for me, I was just too excited to watch it, as I normally watch your videos during Corrie or Emmerdale !! Never mind. Keep 'em coming !
Silver lake have always been first class . I was lucky enough to live near their site growing up . My dad use to take me there to get parts when I was a little boy . It was a couple of portacabins . In the 80,s . However, the way they deal with things has always been excellent . Customer service also first class . Well worth taking a look .
What a video Rob why have I never heard of this place I only live 45 mins away. Will definitely use silver lake thank you. So clean, tidy, & organised & a delivery service what more could you ask. 👍👍
I do miss searching the old fashioned scrap yards where you took your life in your own hands ducking & diving between rot-boxers looking for that elusive part. Great video & thanks for taking the time to do it.
Back in the mid-1980's when Rob was still in short trousers, I seemed to spend most of my weekends climbing to the top of a teetering stack of scrap cars in a muddy and oily breaker's yard, searching for yet another part to keep my banger on the road. I used to think to myself "there's serious money in this game if you organised it right". That's the kind of set up I used to imagine. That warehouse is better than most main dealer parts departments I've been in over the years. Yes please to a return visit Rob. I'd really like to see a start to finish video of a vehicle being dismantled and how they check and catalogue all the recovered parts.
What an impressive set up. I am in Central Scotland and bought a bit for the wife's freelander. Quick and easy transaction and delivered very quickly. Would like to see Landrover stuff please guys
Fantastic place, another level of professionalism. Would love to see another video, would be be great to see the de-polution bays. Also the some of the dismantling process. Great video many thanks
You should get yourself a drone for sites like that, it would make fantastic video, great video. Gone are the days when the cars sit on top of each other, balancing, and you are knee deep in mud. What a change this industry has had.
The old Jag is a pre xJ6 model from the 1960s Rob. One of the numerous Mk 2 based variants of Jaguar / Daimler models they created by changing the front and rear panels of the base design. That place looks amazing, like a well stocked supermarket !! Sadly today, the cost of replacing complex electronics, SRS systems and the construction methods and materials is critical to insurers. The way any impact affects the whole modern bodyshell, often makes repair uneconomical. What may seem like superficial impact damage at first look, can travel through the shell and break joints if it's been hit on a critical point. I remember doing insurance inspections on such as Sierra and Mondeo models. A hard front or rear impact on the chassis would often travel and bend the floor pan and transmission tunnel, well away from the main damage point.
certainly beats trudging round a muddy oily scrap yard, looking for a bit or 2 - amazing how well done it is, no doubt a go to place for many - great video
Totally different to the breakers I worked at 30 odd years ago, kudos to the owner how it’s set out and of coarse dictated to by health and safety. Cracking video Rob 👍🇬🇧

Literally love it, don’t know of any other places that let you do that….. might be worth a trip Rob
Amazing place.
They've obviously invested serious money in that infrastructure and deserve the success.
Got the sense the owners have a good attitude towards business also
Great video 👍
Yes Rob love the walk around video at Silver Lake, Would love to see more of that content 👍
Amazing place Rob. These guys are really “Serious about Salvage” 😂😂Love to see more of this place, the complete process from car arrival. 👍😎
That place is staggering. Love to see how they determine what is for sale when the cars come in. They probably would not show this. Who knows? Nice vid, Rob.
its down to insurance or end of life that determines the outcome of the cars and where they go
I have never seen so much stuff, racks of cars and spare parts, astounding!!
Congratulations on reaching 218,000 subscribers and well done for all your hard work as always
I live in the USA and have NEVER seen an auto recycling yard this well built and organized.
Love it when you go walkabout rob....really informative and your enthusiasm really comes across well 👍👍
I remember going to a scrap yard with my mate , filling my pockets with light bulbs for his Triumph Dolomite and anything else you could get in your pockets.
Phenomenal premises absolutely awesome thank you rob.
Great video rob, its good to see stuff like this aswell as you and chris working on your own vehicles, amazing place enjoyed it mate 👍👍
Hay Rob really enjoy your videos at scrap yards and being honest i really enjoy all your videos.i look forward to them.keep going all the best nigel
SILVERLAKE!!
Got to be the biggest car salvage place !!!
Awsome video yet again Rob, good content.
Can't wait to see what's next ? !!
Lots and lots of VERY useful bits and Bob's there mate ..
Hi guys another insight into how things have changed in the salvage yards ,Highly interesting and enjoyable.KTF. London Paul🇬🇧👍
Hi, enjoying watching the walk around video in Silver Lake, I would Love to watch you do more of this content Again, Thank you for Sharing, Bless
Totally different to the breakers I worked at 30 odd years ago, kudos to the owner how it’s set out and of coarse dictated to by health and safety. Cracking video Rob 👍🇬🇧
It really is an impressive set up Rob, thanks for bringing this video out.

thats the only way to do a yard surely! Very nice, see why you got permission as the owner must be very proud. Thanks for the look around....
