I don't think the film intended either. They picked two people who are both disingenuous, right and wrong. Nick mostly is an activist to get laid. But Roland is no hero either he risked his and his crews lives to kill a big animal then complains about all the death. Nic starts starts loving animals then curses the trex for not understanding his intentions. Roland starts as a brutal trophy hunter then decides he has spent too much time around the company figuratively of killing and ingen "the company of death." I bet nic turns hunter killer Roland throws out his firearms and trophies.

All you say is true. But with Roland. He is a thrill seeker. Have you seen his deleted scene? He is such a good hunter he is bored with his life. He fully expected to die on isla sorna. This was the ultimate hunt. However the death of his best friend and the men under his leadership most likely made him appreciate living .

Mine too. It reminds me of the dinner scene in JP1.
Not to sound like Spock imitating a film critic but it really is a fascinating study of social class, race, gender, accent, posture and height.
Roland’s got money and he earned it so he doesn’t feel the need to throw his shoulders back and keep butting in like Nick.
Sarah’s a shortarse so she just stands next to the tallest man who might back her up, since she knows her voice is winey and annoying (listen to the nasal on “one”) when she tries to explain her theories under pressure.
Ludlow is a winey toff coward so he just stays next to Roland and Ajay.
Ian’s used to being taller than everyone else and he’s got used to no one believing him so he’s not even trying to hold his head up. He’s just gripping onto his daughter and hoping being a father will convince people to listen.
And Ajay probably knows full well no one listens to him (long grass) so he’s got the quiet confidence and slight arrogance of a man who knows full well his white best friend’s taller than him, women will let him walk through the middle of them (Mombasan bar scene) and he could outfight pretty much everyone there if he wanted to (scowl at sexually assaulting tourist in bar scene) but his race doesn’t give him respect when he speaks so he doesn’t.

Honestly, I'm surprised that they didn't simply leave Nick there. Tell him to find his own way off the island.
*Edit* - 0:50 - Hold up. "Since you've destroyed our equipment". So they KNOW the release of the dinosaurs in their camp was intentional. And Nick has been identified as an environmental activist and "saboteur", in Roland's words. Fuck, they probably SHOULD have just left him there.
They don't have to harm him. But they're under no obligation to help him in any way. For their own safety, they probably should have told him to take a hike. How many people died because Nick sabotaged Rolands elephant gun? At a time when he was trying to protect the camp from the buck T-Rex.
*Edit edit* - Just checked. So at least two people lost their lives, maybe more. Whilst Roland was trying to prepare enough of the tranquilizer to replace his sabotaged weapon. More lives if we're including those back in the city, due to incorrect dosage issued to counter Roland's rushed tranq job, that almost killed the sedated rex.
Jesus, Nick is a sociopathic monster.
*Edit edit edit* - Dammit, I can't stop thinking about this. Imagine if you're in a crisis situation and there's someone going around stabbing the bags of donated blood, or cutting the cables on defib kits. The mission is 'scrubbed' and Nick continues to sabotage equipment? The guy is insane!

    • @bill4665
      @bill4665 Год назад +2

Jurassic World is good and has a fluent and well-structured story. And the only time action comes into it is bcs it pushes the story along and effects the narrative. Fallen Kingdom is also very good. However, it struggles a bit more as it is split more-so into twi seperate short films that take place a couole days apart so pacing is weird. But both of the acts are really good. The Death of Isla Nublar is very good, its a catastrophic and large scale event, with the Lockwood Manor then being a small, personal issue that could have MASSIVE reprocutions (should the indoraptor get out alive) this is helped by both having great action and good fun scenes with a cool premise. Dominion sadly, falls short. Its rushed, relies a lot on the nostolgia and action. Scenes like Malta chase are epic new renditions of Jurassic Park/World action and exactly what we want from dinosaurs being on the mainland. The whole Biosyn sanctuary ruins it a lot. The scene with the Rex and Giga standing off (a build up for their fight at the end) is really good and shows these animals arent killing machines but rather, actual animals with thoughts and instinct and know when to walk away from a dangerous fight that isnt in their favour. The leading cast performances really help that film, but a lot of it is ruined, we've waited 30 years for dinosaurs to get on the mainland, and we finally get it and only see the issues with it for about 45 minutes, then the rest of the film is in a isolated area away from the public. So Id say Jurassic World, Fallen Kingdom are two good films (not on the same level as the first two Jurassic Park films) But both of the 3rd films in either trilogy, have cool ideas (JP3 does an outstanding job of building up and preparing for Jurassic World) but felt too rushed and both failed to be as scary or fun than the others.

Maybe not as bad as the tomboy mom that showed up on the island with her divorcee and used a damned loud speaker, but she was close.
She went to the island by herself, knowing how dangerous it was, and that it would most likely bring Ian to a place he was not comfortable with (I don't blame Hammond for that one).
She got up close to a baby steggy and almost got killed doing that, when she was there to take pictures...NOT to get up and touch the damn things (an everyday Park Ranger would tell you not to do that to actual regular animals).
Sarah knew all about how good T-Rex's can smell, she said it herself to the entire group, and she was wearing a jacket with the blood of their baby on it for MILES.

Until I Googled them recently to try to find a film related Wiki article, I didn't actually realise that Earth First are a genuine ecoterrorist group.
It's a real shame that none of Nick's group had heard of them. It would've made for a very interesting plot change if Ian knew about them and turned on Nick at that point for putting his daughter in danger. Imho, it would've better advanced the "family is everything" message behind the film if he'd been able to call out Nick at that point for endangering his.
We could maybe have even had a nice found family moment if the ensuing fight had somehow injured Ajay before his raptor death scene.
Whether you want to interpret the two of them as brothers in arms or lovers (there's moments in the film that could lead to either interpretation), their bond is evident, even without Ajay speaking. The two don't leave each other's side for a second in this scene, even with everyone else moving around.
And it would've added extra impact to his death, what with the Mombasa bar scene getting cut. We don't get to witness how close they are in anything other than blink and you'll miss it moments (Ajay watching him walk away when he goes to search for the missing man, him staying awake until he returns, knowing the sound of his footsteps and rushing straight over with water, him shouting Roland's name as the others drag him away when the Rexes attack) until we see all of the fight go out of Roland at his death.

While I think people interpreting Ajay and Roland as lovers are reaching a bit on account of their years, maybe decades-old friendship, overall I agree with you. If LW tried a bit less hard to be an action movie, and a bit hard to tell a compelling story, I think it'd have been every bit as good as the original film (though obviously still more action-oriented than horror-oriented).

    • @ghostmadlittlemiss

@@eddymercan7487 I dunno, I reckon Roland's still got it! Lol
Of course, they could've been lovers in their younger years and now they've reached the age where, as my grandma would put it, sex is a cuddle. But extremely close friendship works just as well.
Tbh, it's much more likely to be that. It's just a hangover from my Kirk/Spock shipping years to take the other interpretation. I sometimes call Roland and Ajay "hunting t'hy'la" as I think it sums up their bond very well, one that could be taken either way.
Edit - And I totally agree with you. You can really see the script weaknesses in scenes like this. It's a brilliantly acted scene but you can kinda tell they were trying to both rip off the dinner scene from the first film and add exposition at the same time and it doesn't really work.
It's one of those scenes where the actors very much outshine the script and it makes you long for the original films inprov style of dialogue, which came across so much more naturally.

Third time lucky. Both the woman and the child made very bad decisions in this film that, had you actually watched more than this one clip, you’d already know about.
While the child is a child and too young to actually know better, the woman is an adult who had more than enough reason to have known better. But as she was the main character’s girlfriend, she survived the film through plot armour alone and I wish she hadn’t have.
While a child shouldn’t have been out there at all and only ended up there of her own choice, the woman had every right to make the bad decision of also going of her own choice.
Woman are not weaklings and we do not need protecting from dangerous situations that we choose to get ourselves into. Which is why that character shouldn’t have survived.
