"RED AT NIGHT"
Here we have a Time Scylon. Time are a French bike manufacturer. They're one of the few companies making carbon fibre bicycles in Europe. And use a handful of techniques typically unique to aerospace and elite motorsports. I have to say, the carbon construction on this bike really is gorgeous. And of course, the most unique headset I've ever seen!
Bike specs:
Time Scylon
SRAM Red AXS 1x groupset
44T Chainring
10-36T Cassette
Zipp 353 NSW Wheels
Goodyear F1 Tyres
Zipp Sprint Stem, Aero bars and Seatpost
BBB Flexribbon tape
Selle San Marco Dynamic Shortfit saddle

Was very gratified to see an obvious pro builder using a single chainring! That is what I have been running on my Eddy Merckx for the last year and what I have planned for my Scylon also. 10 or 11 prime speeds is good enough for me.
French bikes like Time are masterpieces x
In the top 3 most aesthetic road bikes in the world, imo. Looking forward for Time to introduce more models.
Yeah. They defo have that magic thing.
There's something calming and chill watching Nic building a bike with just some atmospheric music in the background. Generally the opposite of the mania when Francis has him doing something 🤣 Enjoying the vids 👍
Highlights how much of a difference different styles of film making makes.
@@Jimmidoesstuff try the music in this video too Jimmi, you will like it ruclips.net/user/joaquinsan1
Don't know about anyone else, but that was eerily therapeutic
Glad you enjoyed.
Best built frame on the market. Leaps and bounds ahead of anything else.
Do you think they're better built than Look? Or on par?
Not that Look is bad, but Time’s manufacturing is in a league of its own.
@@baysidessi Look isn't what they used to be, but still they are second best to Time.
Quelle beauté et quelle image prestigieuse du vélo la marque Time. La grande classe.
Time is timeless :) beautiful bike
Yep. Mega nice.
That was like a TIME less classic , epic as always jimmy 🤙
Thanks, Ian.
As the owner of a 2008(?) Time VX, I really hope this brand survives. It was my first carbon bike and still my only. I've since fitted it with Xpresso 6 pedals too. Roland Cattin would have been proud of SRAM for keeping the pedal business' production in France. Maybe he'd also be fine with Cardinal Group moving the frame production to Slovakia? Europe-made in and of itself is impressive in this day and age, regardless of the country. Seems like the American investor that owns it now is doing the best he can not to ruin Cattin's vision. It would be great to see TIME in the UCI Peloton again someday like with Team Brioches La Boulangère years ago! I wonder if Thomas Voeckler still has his VX.
I hope all of these brands that actually take their time to properly build their bikes survive for a really long time. I only begun cycling last year, but I dream of owning a bike either from Time, Basso, and the likes.
@@VIEultimate The only way I was able to afford mine was buying used, with my tax return. But it was the best investment I ever made. I had never heard of Basso, but they look awesome. I think pretty much every bike that comes out of Italy is top notch. Although Time has given me a French bias. I'd like to try Lapierre too someday.
@@michaelstratton5223 Lapierre's under some fire lately after Saint PIran (a UK Continental pro team) tried to sue them for allegedly bad quality bikes, but can't really be sure if the failures the team faced are the mechanics' fault or Lapierre (or their UK distributor). Haven't read into it too much yet.
@@michaelstratton5223 Also, look at the Basso Diamante (SV or non-SV). They just look so fine IMO
@@VIEultimate Wow. Maybe LP got some bad carbon during the supply chain nonsense. I don't think they weave it inhouse like Time does. Anways I freaking love that straight, sharp top tube and seatstay on the Diamante SV. I gotta say though I'm not a fan of their minimalistic looking forks. But the rest of the frame more than makes up for it.
A master at work. Love these videos.
Glad you enjoy them, Lee.
More bicycle build therapy, ta muchly. It is an interesting headset design, I like the red in the weave of the carbon steerer, shame it's hidden, wonder what a complete frame would look like that. :)
Agreed. The weave is so cool!!
One of the best yet. The colour scheme though - A red 'n' white bike under the Tyne Bridge🤣
I don’t get it.
Wait…. I GET IT!!! Howay the lads!! 😅
🤣
Another great calming bike build video with Nic.👏👏👏
Thanks again, Shane.
Attention to detail.
This is my dream bike
Yesss!!... Very nice build! 🔥Finally, someone who has the balls to go 1x and doesn't care what others think... I am in the process of building a road bike with pretty much the same setup. The only difference is that I will be using the new Sram Force AXS groupset (Sram Red crank+Garbaruk chainring). The frame I got is Trek Emonda SL6 2022. Let's go! Nice :)
Sick vid. Like watching Nic building and it's so relaxing and he's so deep in his element. With that said, would have been fun to have some narration over the calm music, describing what he's doing. With one of those deep, pensive voices. ;)
We also do ‘How We Built It’ videos, where we talk through the builds. There’s only one live at the moment but we’re going to be doing a bit of catch up over the next few weeks.
@@Jimmidoesstuff Awesome!
Yeah, if I ever could afford to (or wanted to if I could afford one) get a crunchy plastic, disc brake, press fit BB ride, that, or one of the top Look frames would be the ticket! 😉👍❤
😂😂😂
Nice bike you make it look easy.
TIME has been using this head set system since the very beginning, and it was dropped out since 2022 in all models, except for Scylon.
I couldn't stay awake. That noise put me to sleep.
What a great video
That is a cracking looking bike
Interesting to see Nick pressing both BB cups at the same time...I'd always read to do them separately...but if its good enough for Nick maybe I'll give it a go!
He does have 23 years experience mind. 😅🤓
It really depends on tolerances. If e.g. you can already press a small part of the cup in with your hands, you can easily press both cups simultaneously. But if nothing goes in, it's tricky to press both straight in.
What a fantastic design of the headset, a press fit BB and a one by. The only thing to let down a perfect bike is the Zipp wheels because of their rubbish bearings
Same with the SRAM/SCAM drivetrain. Shame to ruin such a nice frameset with that garbage. 🙂
@@rcg9573 Far neater than Shimano's Di solution which has batteries everywhere
@@markfenwick5441Huh? It has less batteries, only one in the frame, and coin cells in shifters like Sram. Charge less often as well.
@@seitenryu6844I said neater. Shimano Di2 still uses cables from battery to derailleurs. What is this? 2005?
Nice machine.
I like the bike👌
Love it! Thanks!! :D
Thanks for watching, Nick.
JUST WOW!!!
😃😃😃
beautiful bike jimmi ! cheers bud ! although not sure Nicks flip flops would pass a health and safety audit ! lol 😂
Had to get the flip flops in. 😂
Nice video work, did Francis help, or give a few pointers? Lol
I’ve been making films for the last 7 years. Just not for myself.
He has wrapped the bars the correct way! Very good attention to detail, gaining a few watts and aesthetics value.
I have the same SL70 and its been great despite the clicking sounds it makes during hot days and some "off-the-saddle" climbs. The real outstanding question is where did he get those NSW353?? I cant find a pair anywhere for months.
Cheers for the video!!
Nic has all the best bike parts!!
@@Jimmidoesstuff Seems like Nic has to learn how to share and let others have some!!
Oh he does. You just want to pay for them. 😅🤑
The only carbon bike built better than Look… I guess alongside the 695/795 I have another dream bike. Not as lovely as the Look with their Mondrian colors but not a bad looking bike by any means. I’d build mine quite a bit differently but the cool looking Zipp NSW are especially great here. Some Princeton Carbonworks with gold decals is something I’d love to see one these red Time frames paired with.
Superb 👍🏻
Thanks Edwin
The image of absolute bike mastery on display at 2:57 somewhat undermined by the fact that he's wearing flip flops at 5:53... Not sure why.
😂😂😂
Are those metal dowels used to fit the headset provided with the headset? I need to fit some Quickset forks to a VSX frame and it looks the same as this. I just realised that the position of the threaded section on the steerer isn't adjustable, I hope they fit my frame!
red manz
Sunderland.
Beautiful. Im here because I just bought an '05 time vx. It has the quickset headset too,. slightly different pin angles i think. The top cap seems to have seized, so how can I remove the stem and cap, as it's stuck for the time being?
Is there a full Carbon One Peice Cockpit that fits the Time Frame ?
Either Alp Du Huez or Scylon Frame thx
Are you using retaining compound or grease on the BB?
Beautiful bike as usual. I would love to see in more detail how he did the bar tape as it looks like it was done from the bottom but seems as neat looking as being taped from the top without any electrical tape / finishing tape? Although I could well understand if this a shop secret Nic doesn't want recorded 🙂
I’ll see if we can do a tape specific video some time.
That seems to be the BBB FlexRibbon tape. It comes with finishing tape made of the same material as the bartape, so it seems seamless. I use the gravelribbon and it's great stuff.
A couple if years later we will use 1" threaded fork steering tubes.
Lol
Beautiful! I'm in the process of buying one. Could you advise about the tyre clearance, in mm? I know the wheels are 25mm/int-30mm/out, but I couldn't get the tyre width.
Not sure about the disc brake ones, but I assume its the same as the rim brake one.
I own the rim brake model 2019 and 25mm is what is recommended. I managed 28mm conti gp5000's on 27mm external rims.
The flip flops are a nice touch, assume they have carbon soles.. What a stunning bike. 1x though seems odd. Is 1x just a fashion thing? I can understand it on off-road bikes but on the road..
No compression bung in the steerer column? What keeps the top cap & top spacer in place? Is friction enough with a cap & insert. Would that be the same for headsets that don't have a threaded mount? There's a GCN video somewhere of the factory in Algeria where these are built. Some real technical artistry in Time frames & the carbon layout.
The stem bolts put enough bite on the bung thing so it’s held in place. Good question.
Perhaps you are confusing Time with Look? GCN did a video on Look where the carbon frames are manufactured in Tunisia, if I recall correctly. I believe that Time frames are manufactured in Slovenia. And they are a fantastic product from what I know of them.
What is the aerosol spray you use to remove grease from the bikes paint? Looking for a gentle product that won’t ruin my bike’s finish. Thanks.
Nice used GT85 or WD40. Use at your own risk.
Nic*
Cool bike, nice build (except for the silly single chainring) and thanks for not slamming the stem. Yet, it has something unprofessional about it when grease is applied with bare fingers rather than a brush or grease gun.
Yes single chainring on aero race bike is not a good combination imo
@@hydaali6244 Agreed!
Even though it has a decent range for a 1x, from a 33" low to an almost 120" high.
But, there would be no need for that MTB/gravel style big gap cluster if it had two front rings. 😉
Well I'm quite jealous that you are the only one who actually got to see how the headset works and how unique it is 😂 Bummer
You whaaaaat?
wait, no weigh-in?
Nah, not important
Official Weight?
General I don’t care about bike weight. But Nic did happen to weigh this one. Pretty sure he said 7.1KG. But don’t quote me on that.
Why was the crank spin not shown? Out-of-true bottom bracket?
No particularly reason. Just wasn’t.
@@Jimmidoesstuff many bike build channels omit it on poorly manufactured frames. The omission is very obvious as they hide garbage framesets.
Nic doesn’t build shit bikes. 😂
Also pretty sure spinning a crank doesn’t tell you if it’s shit or not.
WEIGHT????????????????
Needs Campy and Campy wheels. SRAM is a sham!
Shame that it's a SRAM build, an artisan frame like this should only use super record
Absolute load of shite. You should use what you want to use. THERE ARE NO RULES!!
@@Jimmidoesstuff touche, very polite of you to say that , guess you're not one that respect others' opinions lol
A) be consistent, Sram is a manufacturer, Super Record is a groupset (by manufacturer Campagnolo) B) Since it's a French frame, and no French company makes any groupsets, it does not matter whose manufacturer's groupset you put on there. What is completely silly though (imo) is to put a single-chainring crank on a proper road bike.
