My Theory: Super Saiyan Rage is what happens when a hybrid saiyan is fully in sync with human and saiyan ki. The blue ki represents their inner human spirit while the super saiyan ki represents their saiyan side. It’s both genes fully coexisting. Plus it will also give a hint as to why the creators always said Gohan has more potential to be stronger than Goku and Vegeta.
This should be the real explanation if they ever come up with one
That theory makes zero sense given that half Saiyans are already stronger and have more potential simply because they have a wider range of emotions compared to regular Saiyans

@@Akoom What I find very ironic about The Super Saiyan Rage Form even that it is named that and Trunks is a Half Human and Half Sayian and he was triggered by rage to even transform into this Super Saiyan Form too.
I like the idea that this form is something exclusive to hybrids because it makes it unique. They always made it seem like Hybrid saiyans have much more hidden potential in them and this could be a great way to showcase that ideology.

the fact that hybrid Saiyan's have a lot of hidden potential is proven when gohan always snapped in anger he would release a large amount of power whenever he snapped and when goten and trunks turned into super saiyans with little effort compared to the others seems to already indicate that the the hybrid saiyans so far always seem to have some sort of massive hidden potential not to mention gotenks reaching super saiyan 3 form after seeing the form used by goku even though gotenks is a fusion of goten and trunks the fact remains that both of them seem to have alot of hidden potential just from the fact they obtained the super saiyan 1 form easily and went into super saiyan 3 skipping the 2nd form altogether when fused into gotenks
so i agree with that fact this could be a great way to show that ideology

@@Asmokedetector broly i think is a special case because i think the fact at first the super saiyan form was thought to appear once every 1000 years makes me think that it was a different form that was implied different from goku and the others had obtained and maybe the reason why i think it was thought it only showed up once every 1000 years it was a unique saiyan who achieves this form and broly in this case might be the one that would only appear 1000 years since as a infant he power has reached a insane level making the king panic at the amount of power resulting an both broly and his father escaping and even used a different form altogether compared to goku vegeta and the others even as ssb goku and vegeta had a hard time dealing with broly who was only in his first form although the fight ended before reaching a conclusion makes me wonder what wouldve happened if the fight had not ended how it did then again this is just my thought on broly
I always liked how the rage form causes Trunks to bulk up briefly before it "settles". Just looks sick the way the power kind of "Compacts"
It feels like he's going SSJ1 Grade 2 or 3 which are the main "bulk-up" saiyan transformations, but his muscles are compacting so he doesn't get the loss I speed that makes grades 2 and 3 kinda useless.
Well its also called super saiyan ikari so my guess is it is a primal super saiyan form. Like when broly turned ikari. I'm guess he stacked ssj2 with the ikari form creating super saiyan rage
My *‼️COMPLETELY HEADCANON‼️* idea for this form is:
In the manga, we know Trunks gets some special abilities from training with the supreme kai (like being able to heal people), and in the anime he briefly fights Vegeta and during said fight Vegeta goes blue. so maybe Trunks learned some like weird, forced-spirit-fission-like ability that let's him take God Ki and/or Genki from others. Would also explain how he was able to do the Sword of Hope.
But Vegeta hadn't been to Yardrat yet. So forced spirit fission wasn't even a thing yet

In the anime, Vegeta trained Trunks though. Afterward, Vegeta stated Trunks should be able to handle himself.

That actually makes sense.
I always thought that we were supposed to interpret the blue aura as signifying that Trunks learned how to partially access god ki (or some kind of it) by fighting along side the blue forms, but it wasn't proper training with proper gods, thus the form is incomplete or unfinished.
That's how I've always looked at it.

If I remember correctly, in the manga Trunks was able to power up his SSJ2 to match Goku's SSJ3 during their sparring match, which is why Goku cheesed a win using SSG. I feel like Super Saiyan Rage would've made way more sense in the manga as a further evolution of SSJ2, especially since he was actually an apprentice to Supreme Kai.
But does the supreme kai know about god ki and if he does why didn't he teach it to Goku and Vegeta back in the buu saga?
@@resilientwarrior4294 Maybe SSR doesn't use divine ki, maybe it is actually genki. That would make more sense, at least to me. Trunks was trained to heal people, and that seems like manipulation of genki to me. It also explains his Genki Dama Sword ass pull

The way I always saw this form was that Trunks probably intuitively learned a bit about how God Ki works from seeing and sensing Goku, Vegeta and Black using it, so he tries his hand at it, but it's not quite stable because he was never actually taught how to properly utilize it.
I just always believed that SSJ Rage is unique to Trunks because of how traumatized he is. He's been through so much his whole life and has pretty much only known hell and whenever he gets peace it's taken from him HARSHLY. His whole life lived in fear of androids, watching his mentor/father figure die, going back in time and while giving a timeline a chance he also caused Cell to appear which even killed him. And when he finally gets peace he loses almost everything so I'm sure he feels a level of rage no other saiyan has felt before.
Here's my thought on saiyans getting god ki:
Goku got godly ki from the ritual to turn him into the super saiyan god. Goku _retained_ godly ki because his body had evolved so much more than Yamoshi's. While Yamoshi eventually lost the power of the saiyan god, Goku did not. I think this has to do with Goku having become a super saiyan and evolving his body much more than ancient saiyans like Yamoshi.
So Goku obtained godly ki by experiencing it through the ritual, and then retaining it with his evolved body. _Vegeta_ experienced godly ki by training with Goku, who had already obtained it. This is how Vegeta learned to use it without undergoing the same ritual.
Vegeta trained with Trunks when Trunks came back to the past timeline. This is how Trunks obtained godly ki, but it's still untrained by the time he gains his Rage state, so it's unrefined. It still results in a huge power-up, and this may be due to Trunks' being part human - saiyan godly ki is reacting differently in a hybrid than in a pure saiyan.
This notion of evolved super saiyans obtaining godly ki permanently is how I explain a lot of the huge power-spikes saiyans demonstrate throughout DBS.

I agree completely except for one part. And before I say it, I'm only nitpicking cuz I'm a Vegeta fan and don't want Goku to get the credit. Anyway, Vegeta got and retained god ki by training with Whis, not goku. He snuck off without goku remember?

@@redjesus1357 It _could_ be that simple, but to my mind it has to be a saiyan experiencing the power of the saiyan god to obtain saiyan god ki. Just any god wouldn't necessarily work, or Goku's first fight with Beerus should've been enough.
Recall that Goku basically only had a few minutes as a super saiyan god and his body still retained god ki, so it's less a matter of extensive training and more being exposed to it. And I think it has to be saiyan related, otherwise the Beerus thing like I mentioned.
If so, Vegeta's training with Whis would still have strengthened him greatly, but it wouldn't be until Goku joined in and they did some sparing that Vegeta would truly have experienced saiyan god ki - you have to assume that at some point Vegeta demanded to fight Goku to measure his new godly strength.
This could also be why Trunks never attained godly ki through his clashes with Goku Black, since at that point GB was essentially using kaioshin god ki instead of saiyan god ki.
It might be a stretch, because none of this is ever stated, but we do know that there can be different types of godly ki, as seen with the Gods of Destruction. And I like the idea of saiyan godly ki being a distinct saiyan thing.
Because of the white out eyes I think it COULD have been an amazing hint to kale and later Broly. Where some sayians have “stronger rage” or some shit and those like kale and Broly get the special green hair and people like trunks with SSR is a sort of halfway point to that. To bad it’s just a one and done transformation, I absolutely love the scene when it first appears.
I always found it interesting how trunks' body bulks up for a second before going back to normal. Which makes me think that ssj rage is linked to the 2nd and 3rd grade forms.
I always thought the same thing, the form that he was clowned for using by cell and vegeta just wasn’t complete. This is the mastered version with all the strength and none of the speed issues
@@518goeshard420 To be fair what you described is essentially Super Saiyan 2. Even Trunks's own words when seeing Gohan using Ssj2 was all the strength and none of the speed loss.

But then again how would he be able to be on par with ssr goku black and zamasu im thinking it’s something that hybrids are exclusive to but it’s a confusing concept tbh
@@supasyanide To be honest I think it's sort of unrelated to the Grades. The whole theme seems to be standing up against gods and all that as a mortal. Maybe it's a representation of Trunk's rage and the personification of his Humanity. As a half Sayian he would definitely have a strong sense of Humanity than Goku and Vegeta. Tragedy weighs heavier on Trunks more than most, and to be told by Zamasu and Black that all of this was his fault? Just because he dared to try to make a better future? Not only the kind of stress but the kind of existential crisis he must of had awakened something fierce.
I think it is actually link to legendary form of broly then disappearing from the light in his eyes
The explanation is that Toei just needed a quick way for Trunks to be at the level of the rest of the characters and didn't care about the implications for the story, lore, and worldbuilding.

Yup. It’ll never be explained or used again. Every time I think oh they could do something really cool Toriyama does something lazy with it. I like the Idea that it’s hybrid exclusive transformation.
Yeah I don’t know why people try to use headcannon to justify this. It doesn’t need to be justified, and people need to hold Toei accountable so we don’t have to see nonsense like this again.
I mean, the same is true of most transformations. Most were because they needed a way for Goku or the other character to be on par with or exceed the villain at a moment's notice. That's exactly why Super Saiyan was created by Toriyama. He needed a way for Goku to be strong enough to kill the guy who was powerful enough to genocide the Saiyan race. SSJ2 because they needed to make Gohan more powerful than Perfect Cell. SSJ3 because they needed something to up the ante over SSJ2 and be powerful enough to fight the next baddie.
@@A86 Except the other transformations were all executed effectively, and actually had explanations for their existence. We still have absolutely NO CLUE what this form is, and how it works differently than the other super saiyan forms. This was a poorly executed asspull.
I've always seen this as sort of a 'further evolution' to SSJ2 that you can achieve with a higher base power if pushed to the brink of rage like Trunks was.
I've also heard fan speculation that this form could've also been why Vegeta was as powerful as he was in the 'My Bulma!' scene against Beerus, it was noted that was probably the strongest he'd ever been before. While most likely not true as the form hadn't even been conceived of yet, I find it funny how similar those two look in those scenes without the pupils.
Could be a situation similar to kale and broly how they are the same form but broly movie made some changes.
What i think happens is, as long as you train with Kais you unlock the POTENTIAL for god ki, and then you need to train with someone with actual god ki to have that potential unlocked and be able to aquire god ki.
He did spar with Vegeta and that might be enough to unlock a proto god blue transformation due to his rage and elevated power.
In my own haedcannon, this form was created due to trunks fighting along side with Goku and Vegeta (who both use God ki) for prolonged periods of time caused his Saiyan DNA to passively absorb a portion of their God ki in order to adapt to the large gap in power and rival the level of power being output by the other Saiyans.
Or he could have gotten some God Ki in him when he was pummeled by Vegeta earlier while Vegeta was using SSJB
A hybrids god form is a interesting idea. But honestly I've always seen it as something like false ssj blue a incomplete transformation into blue. That incomplete transformation could be because he only trained with vegeta and fought around gods, so without proper god training like goku and vegeta have he was unable to complete the form. False ssj back during slug movie was just as powerful as ssj, just not as stable.
As for the form he took on against Zamasu when he absorbed the spirit bomb I think imo it was again a incomplete form but of UI and not blue, similar to goku in the manga when he is able to use it in base, ssj, and god forms. I see what trunks did like a lesser version omen but stacked onto his rage or false ssj blue form to make him more powerful then a weakened zamasu.
I've been waiting for this video. SSJ Rage is honestly my favorite SSJ form because of how badass it looks.

I always saw it has him taping into grief rather than rage mixed with a strong since of humanity and guardianship. It was he’s answer to the godliness the zomasu boosted about 24/7. A mortal ki to rival that of the gods.
Also it could be a perfected SSJ3 form that doesn’t have the power drain. Possible because of supreme Kai’s training.
I’d like to think it’s a combo of the two.
My own theory is that Super Sayian Rage is the final form (without god ki) of what can be achieved when a Sayian lets their emotions run wild. It creates the adverse to Goku who is learning to control his emotions with UI.
So, in theory, Super Sayian Rage is what Goku would’ve achieved if he never met Beerus and he was pushed to the brink of defeat/emotional breakdown.

It’s like Trunks combined Super Saiyan 2 with his Berserker power just like Gohan “Beast” combines Gohans Mystic Powers & his Angry Ape transformations from his childhood
You see how he goes big like his super trunks form but then goes back to his regular body form but has the aura when he is powering up. Maybe it's like God ki where u have to raise your power but not let it over flow and that's how trunks is able to do his makeshift God ki
I like to call this form "False SSB" it most DEF has god ki in it as you can see by the aura. I think he got it because at that time he was surrounded by people with god ki fighting and and getting hit by attacks with god ki and with all that god ki flying around and in the air and maybe because he is a hybrid saiyan he was able to absorb some and tap into that power. His body might have even just subconsciously picked it up from watching Vegeta and Goku using it...
Vjump scan already implied how he got it they stated during that time when the episode came out he trained with Vegeta off screen on earth. That training made Trunks much stronger which was also stated in Vjump and obviously that's how he got this form with Vegeta's help.
Heck it wasn't even off screen. They showed ssj blue vegeta beating up on trunks
I feel like that would make the most sense. Exposure to god ki made him able to tap into some of it but since he hadn't had any formal training the form is incomplete so its kind of like a halfway point between regular super saiyan and the god forms

My head cannon for rage is its basically false ssj but its trunks trying to push himself further but his emotions went haywire and making a canon form of rage
I think it’s the same thing as Trunks doing super saiyan grade 3 against Cell in Z, but learning how to keep his body slimmer. When he transforms into it in Super, we see him start to bulk up a bit but then his body goes back down. Think back to when Paragus said Broly learned how to channel the power of his Oozaru form in his base form. I believe Trunks learned to channel the physical power of Super Saiyan Grade 3 into his Super Saiyan 2 form, with a hint of God Ki (that he probably got from Goku or Vegeta via contact sparring) and this brand new form is what we are left with. So maybe this is some sort of different mastery of this? Or maybe this is a Super Saiyan and God Ki mix that ISN’T mastered, so that could be why his hair is yellow still instead of blue.
My headcanon is that SS Rage is actually the same form as SS Berserk and SS Full-Power a.k.a. Kale and Broly's forms. I believe all of it stems from tapping into their innate Oozaru potential like Broly did while in Super Saiyan, but this potential manifesting differently for Future Trunks and Kale. The blank eyes, green hair (yellow and blue not mixing into green with Trunks), and bulking up point to this for me.
For Trunks, because he was a hybrid and had been using normal Super Saiyan first for a long time, his SS Rage form ended up the way it did, with him not manifesting green hair and his bulking up being condensed. For Kale, because she was so timid and had never used this power before, she turned Super Saiyan AND tapped into Oozaru at the same time, becoming SS Berserk right off the bat instead of building into it like Broly did.
One thing I always found interesting is how in Super we get 3 transformations basically back-to-back that show a Saiyan bulking up, then shrinking back down and getting a more vibrant hair color: Trunks' Super Saiyan Rage, Kale's "True Legendary Super Saiyan" form (or whatever the kids are calling it nowadays), and Vegeta's Super Saiyan Blue Evolved. It always made me wonder if they may be connected, like maybe Kale's version is the Legendary variant and Vegeta's is the God variant, or something like that.

You skipped over the fact that he did, briefly (well at least briefly on screen), train with Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta. That is, technically, training with a God, or at least someone that has already been trained to tap into God ki.
my theory is that when trunks fought and seen vegeta with super saiyan blue, he tried to mimik it. remember when everyone couldnt sense gokus god ki when he fought beerus? but they said he was emmitting emense pressure? i think trunks noticed too and in the rage filled moment...tried to pressurize his own ki. the result would be massive normal ki, but hints and beginnings of god ki since he pressurised his own ki (remember how vegeta apparantly learned god ki all by himself? maybe trunks is doing something similar?) . i hope u follow.

My personal head cannon for how he achieved this form is after Trunks had been attacked with god ki so many times, his body managed to absorb some of it and when his rage exploded, his ssj transformation was enhanced by the god ki in a similar to ssjb allowing him to reach a level comparable to it.

So visually it makes more sense for it to be a half-breed’s” use of God Ki. Contextually it makes more sense for the form to be using Genki considering what happened when Trunks sliced Zamasu and the word “hope” being synonymous with Trunks and his arcs. In turn, that’s also how he’d randomly be able to keep up with Blue, because if it was something with God Ki, it doesn’t necessarily mean with God Ki he could even compete; I mean look at Supreme Kai. All in all, you’ve done a significant better job explaining the different types of Ki and energy than Dragonball.
i believe it's something that have to do about color theory. What i mean is when goku and vegeta are going super saiyan blue they increase their energy just as super saiyan but with a controlled sense, where it's not spread out. With broly's case is an explosion of anger where he doesn't recognize friends from foes (he does't really have friends but you get what i mean), plus yellow and blue when mixed are green, same to broly's aura. In this case (super saiyan rage) is something like to show that trunks had gone to a bloodlust but can concentrate where to attack.
This is probably one of the most confusing things to me like the way I imagine it was it was similar to Goku spirit bomb except it went in to trunk sword
I have a couple of possible theories:
1. This first theory technically does bend the rules a little bit in that it cross references manga-only information with an anime-only transformation, but hear me out anyway. In the manga, it was revealed that when Trunks trained with the Kaioshin, the Kaioshin did the potential unlock ritual on Trunks, which turned Trunks into an apprentice Kaioshin with healing powers and everything. Well, it should be noted that an apprentice Kaioshin is technically a god too (this was actually confirmed in a guidebook). Contrary to what some people believe, the higher level gods such as the gods of destruction, the angels and the kaioshins are not the only ones with god ki. Even the lower level gods, such as apprentice kaioshins and the cardinal direction kais (like King Kai), possess god ki. Even planetary gods like Dende have small amounts god ki (actually stated by Dende in the Moro saga). That said, if Trunks became an apprentice Kaioshin, then it would make sense if he gained access to residual amounts of god ki. When Trunks then raged out against Black and Zamasu, that god ki manifested and mixed with and evolved Trunks' Super Saiyan 2 form to create Super Saiyan Rage (Trunks' god ki usage was not trained enough or mature enough for Trunks to fully go Super Saiyan God or Super Saiyan Blue).
2. This second theory is a bit simpler. You noted that every Super Saiyan transformation comes from rage except for the god forms, but that is not quite true. There is one Super Saiyan transformation within the line of golden haired transformations that we never saw be triggered by rage (only through offscreen training). That form is Super Saiyan 3. We saw Goku and several others use rage to trigger Super Saiyan. We saw Gohan (and later Future Trunks in the manga) use rage to trigger Super Saiyan 2. However, we have (in the main-line series anyway) only seen two people go Super Saiyan 3. Those people are Goku and Gotenks. Neither of them were ever shown obtaining SS3 through rage. Both of them obtained it simply by pushing themselves during offscreen training. However, what if a Saiyan did rage out again after attaining SS2? Maybe... Just maybe...Super Saiyan Rage is the alternative version of Super Saiyan 3 that a Saiyan would get if they transformed again using rage as the trigger after SS2 (whereas the normal SS3 that we are all familiar with is what a Saiyan would get after SS2 simply by pushing themselves in training).
This form came from years and years of fighting and training on his own. Along with his first time training against Vegeta in his super sayain Blue form. That was trunks own transformation over super sayain grade 3 level that he mastered. Trunks was more curious after seeing Goku Black transform into super sayain rose'. So he felt if they all can transform into God levels of power, he can too in his own way. Why would his aura be blue instead of another color? It was Vegeta he learned it from.

I just like to think that from his unhoned absolute rage he broke through something and just started to sky rocket in terms of power. He reached a point where he couldn't control himself and started to rampage.
He fought Vegeta
A lot of people, keep mentioning in the comments, that Trunks kept seeing Goku, and Vegeta going Super Saiyan blue, and this is how he supposedly tapped into god ki. I've wondered for a long time, and thought instead of all of this. Perhaps this happened, because Trunks spent so much time fighting against a god. He kept struggling against Goku black fighting him for a long period of time on and off. He would have continued to get stronger during every one of these fights. He was fighting against black and Zamasu, after black turned Super Saiyan Rose. These continued fights on and off I think could function in a similar way, to training with the gods.
Why wasn’t this Trunks added to FighterZ? If it can have 6 Goku’s, then having this Trunks would be a welcome addition.

Since Trunks used Super Saiyan Rage to take on SSJ Rose Black, the form likely does have some God Ki in it. Maybe his training from Vegeta gave him the experience to use it.
Exactly he got it from training with vegeta in ssb and his body probably remembered that feeling and he was able to transform

Didn't Trunks train very briefly with Vegeta after losing to SS3 Goku? Maybe he saw God Ki up close and was somehow able to use it a little bit. Most of Trunks techniques actually came from just watching others anyway. Look at DBZ, in the hyperbolic time chamber, Vegeta didn't teach him anything yet he now knows Gallick gun etc.

Here's my pitch, Saiyans have the ability to integrate residual energy into their own Ki. Since Trunks was in the Presence of Goku, Vegeta, Goku Black and Zamatsu, he was able to absorbe enough god ki for it to affect his own transformation. Maybe this is a form that he can only access in this specific circumstance, otherwise he'd have to go through the same training as Goku and Vegeta to show that level of strength again.
my explanation is that ssjr combines the power of ssj2 with intense anger further empowering it granting him immense speed, strength, durability, and a blue aura its fueled by his strong emotions making it potent
Rage is ONLY needed to unlock super saiyan 1. Goku and Gohan were able to transcend 1 without necessarily tapping into rage.
That’s not true ssj1 and 2 need rage,ssj3 was never explained so we don’t know for sure but I assumed potentially it can be achieved with rage too.only ssj4,god and blue were achieved without anger.It’s true that goku reached ssj2 by training but we don’t know how he achieved it.
@@Gimas96 only vegeta and trunks used rage for ssj2. Training to stay in 1 also allowed goku and Gohan to be calm and reach 2. 3 was achieved by basically pulling as much energy he could from himself and biology. It was stated that he shortened his time on earth by a lot.
Trunks did fight with Vegeta, and in the anime, he same something along the lines of "Time to get you trained" or something. So it seemed some training happened off-camera between Trunks and Vegeta. That was what I always thought gave Trunks any ability to use god ki.
This form is better than Trunks' bulky form when he fought Cell.
At least that form made sense. This one comes out of nowhere and is never explained.
My personal head cannon is that the blue aura is Trunks version of brolys green aura from dbsb before broly turns into a super saiyan. The only reason I think it's blue is that trunks isn't the "legendary super Saiyan" and that he manages to stack it with super Saiyan b/c he rages during the moment he unlocked it while being in the super Saiyan state (aka plot)
My headcanon kinda told me that this form is a natural evolution of SSJ2, as opposed to forced evolution like SSJ3, combined with hybrid potential.
Edit: You know what? I actually think this is SSJ2 with Trunks's potent rage boost, similar to Gohan Beast.
I always like to think that since we see no other Saiyans uses these unique forms Rage and Blue Evolution are a result of Vegeta and Trunks' "royal bloodline"

Though this sparked one theory when you mentioned that you thought he was just going ssj2: What if Rage is somehow a hybrid of imperfected god ki (from the brief sparring with Vegeta) along with the REAL ascended form of ssj2 (aka ssj3)?
Trunk learned about higher powers when he trained with Vegeta. 4 Saiyans have a pure rage power-up so far; Trunks, Vegeta, Broly & Kale. Trunks appears to be the only one that can control himself when it happens, perhaps that's the reason he achieved a new form instead of just gaining uncontrollable power.
The transformation is very similar to dbs Broly's ssj + fury the only difference is the colors and that Trunks can control the power but it could just be a hybrid saiyan transformation
My Theory Is - Because Trunks is a more Traumatised Mess then Anyone Else - It Is a Trunks exclusive form , Like TFS said - I'm sure Trunks can tell you many stories that end in - & Then they died too ...
My theory is that super saiyan 2 splits between 2 different forms when you surpass it. One attains SSJ3 through training and evolving SSj2. On the other hand, SSJ Itari happens when a ssj2 user rages out to the point where they attain this form and release their latent potential through emotion.
I guess the darker shit you've been through the stronger your rage. Trunks been through hell so must of just snapped and unlocked new potential.
This hit me at 2:52. when I see him transform I notice he goes through all the super saiyan grade forms similarly to the cell ark when the saiyans got all bulky n stuff I feel like he reached the final grade for those formsyk
Considering God Ki wasn’t a thing before Battle of Gods I think It is more plausible Supreme Kai taught him about it but he never mastered it or couldn’t without more Saiyans which they couldn’t have known.
Maybe Supreme Kai didn’t tell Gohan or Goku about God Ki because Elder Kai was released and when he said he could unlock potential they just saw that as a more viable option knowing mortals can’t tap into Devine Ki. Only reason Trunks got it in his timeline was because they had no other option to boost his power.

Is this transformation similar to Broly’s inexplicable power? Cuz online says Broly has ikari too, but idk how credible that is.
The only differences I see is Broly wasn't able to control his ikari like Trunks was. Plus the colors of the aura. Broly stacked ikari with ssj while Trunks stacked his ssj2 with ikari. Even though there are differences between the two there are just as many similarities.

It's from his trauma, losing his mentor, not being able to save the supreme kai, losing everything all over again with Zamasu ariving, losing his mother etc.
Just the constant barrage of losing everything and everyone that's close to him, not being able to protect the world is just to much at a certain point.
Sure, every ssj transformation is triggered by rage, but having this much stored up from not being able to fullfill the promise of keeping this world save just breaks a man
Rage could possibly be linked to his grade 2 or 3 forms too, with him bulking up before settling down
Another theory I really liked was the one of jordanjones where he mentioned that it could be his complete mastery of both saiyan and human ki
This transformation has been a complete head scratcher since it first appeared in the anime.
Part of me is thinking that he is somehow partially tapping into some God ki u intentionally because his human side is trying to prevent his Saiyan nature from completely raging out and losing all control.
At the same time, I can't help thinking he is also probably using Genki and somehow unintentionally trying to draw in energy while he's fighting, in the hope to dig deep enough to finally put an end to Zamasu and Black.
At this point, Trunks Rage form will probably be seen as a random ass pull until there is some kind of logical and official explanation from Toriyama sensei, Toyotaro, Shuesha or whoever.

It seems like the form mimics god ki and gives trunks a huge boost similar to how golden frieza despite having a god like amp and aura doesn't utilize god ki.
Trunks was surrounded by god ki users so trunks could've got a feel of it and was capable of merely mimicking god ki since nobody in the anime comments on trunks gaining god ki.
It is implied that Trunks might have gained godly ki because the aura of super saiyan rage has similar particles to the ones in Super Saiyan Blue and Rosé. Another point here is that Trunks could sense the ki of Super Saiyan Blue Vegito, which would have been impossible unless he had God ki or learned to sense it.
I think, Ssj rage isn't just rage, its suppressed rage, the kinda that boils in you and that you dont let get to you until you can't hold in anymore, all the emotions he suppress, everything hes gone through, his training, and the hope and energy from humanity to kill zamasu as he uses everything he has from both his human and saiyan sides. If I'm correct on that, then it'd explain why no one else has gotten it as they haven't been through what trunks as they haven't lost what is basically everything to them.
Like Fury, this enhancement to the Super Saiyan form is gained through intense rage. In the anime, Future Trunks attains it due to his absolute rage at Goku Black and Zamasu blaming him for everything that had happened. The power of this form allows Future Trunks to hold his own against Super Saiyan Rosé Goku Black and Future Zamasu at the same time.
Well, Super Saiyan Rage seems to be just Trunks being able to maintain and keep the rage boost that saiyans get when they're angry. Like when Vegeta temporarily got that rage boost against Beerus when Bulma was slapped.
While deflecting a blast from both Black and Zamasu his eyes where still white, as he powered up they turned green before returning to his normal eye color, I don't think anyone taught him I think he was just pissed. Also could have been a hint of Kales power in the tournament of power.
You gotta remember...saying he didn't train with any god...well, all those battles with Zamasu/Goku black in the future timeline would technically count, right?
The way I look at it is when Goku Black unlocks Rosé after battling with Goku/Vegeta in Blue, it would make sense that Trunks unlocks this form after his battles/training with Goku, Vegeta, and Goku Black in their respective god forms.
One of the themes in Super seems to be that power is not linear. Everyone has their own way of increasing strength. KaioKen Blue. Blue evolution. Ultimate Gohan. SSRosé. Golden Frieza. SS Rage. All unique and all uniquely powerful.
Its quite possible that each saiyan has their own special form they reach at a certain time. Vegeta has U.E, goku has U.I, gohan has now this Beast form, so maybe this rage is trunks specific form he's finally unlocked. Cause if this rage form was something they all get along the way we would have seen it in goku (cause he trains so much) gohan (cause he has usually the most hidden powers linked to his deep emotions) or Vegeta (cause he's almost always angry anyway).
but what we see consistently is half saiyans achieving new forms through their emotions, like with gohan. i think trunks simply has the same potential
Broly was based off of future trunks. Future trunks has a lot more baggage than the other saiyans. The kais won't train a full blooded saiyan, but a hybrid who wants peace, (almost like gohan) not too far-fetched

2:53 It's just me but I really loved this transformation of Trunks here..I wish they did that kind of transition for the other forms..and I'm not including when Goku just goes from SSJ1 to SSj2 in front of the kids with just barley hints of difference during their teaching of Fusion.
I think it goes back to the fact of how vegeta learned how to tap into god ki without even going through the ritual it implies that god ki may be attained by fighting another god?
Vegeta in BOTG punched Beerus when Beerus hit Bulma. He raged out like Trunks but on a much smaller scale. I just view Trunks doing the same thing because of his his level of power and immense recent trauma.
Theory: When you lose everything lose everyone and can’t do it anymore so many times and so much that your done with seeing it without being able to do anything with so much rage added with all these aspects leads to ssjr
My guess is that if you're a hybrid Saiyan who is the hope of a population (Genki), then you can access this particular form after experiencing great rage. I think he does get God Ki from the transformation even though he may not be aware of it, similar to Kid Buu's retcon but more explosive.
My theory was that shin passed ki to trunks but since he knew nothing about it, it was dormant like uub/buu. Then vegeta gives him a rundown of God ki from the interest he had during their sparring session. In the moment where he first transforms, he tries anything he can think of till the ikari pops out

I think it's pretty clear that SS3, while after SS2, isn't a form taken from rage. As a result, I think SSR is the only form that SS2 can really go when a Saiyan has already mastered it yet still feels an intense anger.
2:54 We see Vegeta do this earlier against Beerus, so it's certainly been seen before.
Also, it's obvious that even without this, rage boosts Saiyans in general. No matter what form they're in, or whether or not the rage activates a new one, it will still make them stronger.
Vegeta did gutcheck Trunks whilst in his Blue form though. He told him "remember this feeling". I figured that was his introduction to God Ki.

Here is my sense of the theory. So when trunks trained with vegeta before the go back in time, I think he quickly saw the form and then tried to mold it to one of his own. Think about it, he learned master roshi technique in a video. I also want to believe it is a thing that only he will have because it’s more like a transition due to the fact that his form….. idk but it’s just something

Only a lifetime of pain and suffering, to the point of sacrificing one’s own soul, can unlock this power.
The whole point is the power of a mortal to challenge the gods.
Maybe Trunks learnt a little bit about god ki by watching Goku and Vegeta use Super Saiyan Blue but he didn't quite get the concept. He did learn how to use mafuba by watching Piccolo use it in a video after all.
I always thought of it as a sort of “super saiyan demi-god.” And it’s a little loose but my guess is his body sorta learned this potential when training with blue vegeta. Not that he like absorbed any of his god ki or anything but his body sorta picked up on how powerful vegetas punches were and sorta adapted. That and maybe vegeta gave him a small lesson on god ki. I definitely think it’s a half saiyan technique. Only the saiyan half has god ki potential so it’s god ki and normal ki mixed together. I feel like it has a potential solid foundation but it’s a real shame that it’s unexplained and seemingly comes out of nowhere

After watching the series again, I saw Vegeta tell Trunks to come train with him. In preparation for Zamasu, Vegeta trained Trunks well enough to tap into a form that may have God Ki
I kinda viewed this like
Super Saiyan grade 3 but latent God Ki condensed the power into his smaller body.
When he powers up into this form he gets Really swole then his size decreases.
So I feel like its Grade 2 but with God Ki allowing trunks to keep his speed.
My thoughts exactly. Well close to yours I think. It's kinda like he learned from his mistake with constantly powering up against Perfect Cell whilst losing more speed.
In my personal view, he learned a few tricks from Vegeta (galick gun, final flash, final explosion) and one of those tricks was a crash course on god ki and how it requires keeping it from leaking and keeping it contained within your body. So Trunks may have instinctively invented a new power up for himself by powering up his ssj2 while enraged to the point of it bulking up again like with Cell, but then uses a bit of God Ki knowledge from Vegeta to "condense" the Ki till his body returns to normal and becomes slimmer again (2:53), thus gaining the benefit of increased power AND speed. This is just an idea though.
