I sat by her on a fight to LA in the 80s.. she was a treat. I made her laugh.. i was gushing.. a highlight in my my life 😊
So cool! I have loved her and her music since I was a teen living with my mom and ALL through my adult life. I finally went to see her in concert (just three seats from the stage)! I sang along with all my heart to every song she sang that night! She DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!!! RIP LADY T 💜

This is my favorite album of Teena's. So atmospheric. You feel you're on an island with her. Great mix of Jazz, Brazilian and R&B music. Genius track.

I had just started middle school, and this song came out. This song got so much airplay, and nobody got tired of it. Miss Teena Marie was a pioneer. And not just with her music. She is the reason artists can get out of their contracts. In the 80s, she fought to get out of her contract, and she won. after that, it was known as the Teena Marie clause, which was immensely useful in order for TLC to get out of their contract with L.A.Reid, And start making real money.
An underplayed song for sure. You rarely heard this song on the radio, but a true gem.
Not where I grew up. “Portuguese Love” was _REGULARLY_ played on black radio.

I am a romantic, and this song is on the top of my list as the most romantic song created. Teena did her thang on this song. From beginning to end you feel like you’re on a romantic journey with a very pleasurable outcome. Men, if you ever want to get a woman’s attention, play this song.

Ms Teena Marie aka Lady T was a poet who lived in a place where there was no color or politics and to enter her world all you needed was to release your fears surrender to love and don't judge.. God rest her soul. I actually met and saw her before she blew up at a small club in LA. I would never forget that night, because it was the first time a lady came to me and ask me would I like to dance. This is my favorite by her. I hope you will enjoy. Love that top you have on.

I adore Lady T. It is so wonderful seeing younger folk recognizing her artistry. Lady T loved instrumentation. Portuguese Love is a musician's creation. Apparently, Miles Davis, no less, complemented her on it.
Music was consumed differently when this song came out. Not only was it pre streaming, but it was pre CD (8 track tapes or cassette tapes if you wanted the latest technology). It wasn't analyzed the same either. No RUclips, but if you heard it bumpin in a bunch of people's cars during the summer, that was like the underground virtual approval. I can still rmbr this song playin in cars driving through my neighborhood when it was first released.

This is considered her greatest song. Rick and Teena were a couple for a long time I think 7 years. She was so popular in the Black community they played the whole 8 minute version on the radio. They also played her album cuts on the radio that weren't released as singles. Teena is definitely missed

That was very confusing. Rhythm unlike anything from Portugal, which is fine, just strange. And out of nowhere an italian word repeatedly said, "amore". Such a beautiful voice, though.

You didn’t offend. No disrespect to Teena’s immense talent but it’s very much a U.S. thing to take these liberties when it comes to ethnicity. Example: German chocolate cake. Nothing authentically Deutsch about it but we use the term as if it is. That’s what Teena is doing on this song. Even her pronunciation of “Portuguese” isn’t correct but we love her and the song is fantastic so we go along for the ride. ✌🏽
