I'm pretty sure the Itaewon crush had a little influence on their decision to cancel Halloween, along with the folks getting out of hand. I thought Korea was gonna try the same in Itaewon, but they actually did something productive, by providing a bunch of safety precautions to prevent another catastrophe. The only problem is, most of the crowd didn't show up and hardly anyone wore a costume. I guess the event is still too fresh in people's mind. The same precautions could have been placed in Shibuya to control the "fun".
We need to make it up there one year to celebrate with you!

Really liked learning about Halloween in Japan through this video. All those costumes look great. I know I would LOVE to go to Tokyo Disneyland and Sea during Halloween as well as Universal Studios.

On Saturday I drove in to Tokyo for the first time. On the drive in suddenly I realized that I was driving through Shibuya on the Saturday before Halloween. Oof. Yikes!
I was pleasantly surprised to discover it not as crazy as the worst-case-scenario that my brain imagined. 🙂

Thank you! If you're coming with a significant other, December is like Japan's Valentine's day, so there will be many romantic events and sites. Make sure to check out the many "illuminations" around Tokyo, like in Tokyo Midtown.

i just found out about disney sea either last year or earlier this year, but i never knew they had western actors that played characters like jack sparrow. it's cool, but i wonder what a japanese actor's take on jack would be like. lol

Great content! I am here in Tokyo and was in Shibuya last night. I was so bummed that Halloween was cancelled in Shibuya. I planned my trip around this time so that I could experience it. We ended up going to Asakusa and had a blast!

Just found your channel via some other "being X in Japan" video and trying to catch up with some of your more current stuff. Like your overall attitude. Did notice that it feels like you had to cut something out of this video as it changes mood and sort of suddenly stops. I heard the Halloween Tokyo 2023 was rather different from recent years.
Kind of sad that Halloween would be cancelled. It's too bad that the mayor believes the crazy/campiness has gotten so far out hand that they needed to clamp down. Sounds like some of the older politicians put pressure on the mayor to cancel (according to one of the people you had interviewed).
I've always thought I might want to live in Korea or Japan, but I can't picture what kind of jobs you could live with because I've only seen online content meaning people get their money from something like RUclips
