  • The food writer heads to the seaside for a weekend away in Whitstable, Kent, and rustles up ricotta hotcakes with strawberries, a golden coconut and turmeric-infused fish curry and Vietnamese rice paper rolls followed by a white chocolate and passion fruit mousse.
    Nigella Lawson is back and if she has her way, it will be summer forever. In this eight-part series, Nigella cooks irresistible summery recipes that can be enjoyed at any time of the year. Featuring food from around the globe, Nigella ventures out of the kitchen to give picnics, barbecues and beach food a touch of her inimitable culinary style. In each episode, Nigella’s recipes reflect a different colour with some amazing and unexpected results.

    The rice paper rolls are missing two things: prawns and a dipping sauce made of peanut butter, hoisin sauce, a splash of fish sauce, and chilli oil.
    And you tuck in the sides when rolling the wraps, to keep the filling from falling out. Cutting the rolls into small pieces leaves the ends open, so the filling falls out.

    All the glam and glitz Nigella brings to us all, you'd think she could secure a summer rental nicer than this. Warm, fresh surf, a sandy beach .. not a smelly salt flat, rocky shore and tiny, poky deck.

      Sometimes a change is what one needs. This seems a nice spacious house in a natural environment, close enough and large enough for friends to visit. Maybe it’s you who is looking for glam and glitz on a warm sandy beach?

    No Nigella, the rice paper wraps are meant for one person only. You are suppose to tuck in the sides and not roll them like a tortilla and then cut them but at the time I’m assuming that was the best way how.

    Nigella has an entire team and staff, including a research department. Yet not ONE of them told her that's not even close to how you make/consume a rice paper spring roll?
    They come did her wrong.

      Really??? You're gonna get mad about "food appropriation"? You seriously need to chill. It's not like she wore a damn sari while making the stew.

    • @pluckernil
      @pluckernil 3 года назад +2

      @@malloryg4251 Yes, I am, because that's exactly what it is. She is adapting food from other cultures and making it hers by Westernizing the recipes, thereby bastardizing the dishes. I don't need you to tell me what is offensive or not, thank you.

    • @PS-jh3in
      @PS-jh3in 3 года назад +6

      @@pluckernil I come from the land of curries and that is not 'food appropriation'. If you want to get offended do so by all means, but don't throw about words that you don't understand. At no point did she claim that her version is the original, all of us adapt food from different cultures to suit our own tastes. That does not make it fOdD aPpRoPrIaTiOn. You people are one of the reasons people don't take history of food from different cultures seriously. If you are interested in finding actual appropriation, research harder.

    • @pluckernil
      @pluckernil 3 года назад

      @@PS-jh3in Adapting anything from another culture to make it your own is literally the definition of cultural appropriation and in this case it's with food. I understand it very clearly, but it appears as if you don't. If you're not offended by it, (possibly because you've shown that you don't understand the term or because you like your land of curries to be bastardized), that does not mean she's not doing it and yes, make no mistake, she is doing it.
