- We've all heard of mono. It's the kissing disease! But this term is a little minimizing and outdated. The disease is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus, and there are lot more details regarding transmission and disease than can be described simply by kissing, so let's get into the finer points now.

Hey Dave, I saw your debate with Jesse (Not gonna get into that), but it’s brought up something that’s been on my mind for awhile. I was wondering if you could do a video: scientific studies and consensus. Many people (at least from question or comments) don’t seem to know the difference between these and polls or opinions. When people say, “the scientific consensus”, they don’t mean “the majority opinion of scientists”, nor do people understand that one of the criteria for a study is to eliminate any bias. I would love to see you address this because it’s a bit frustrating when people object to either of these without really understanding what they are.

Hello Professor Dave. Would you have a lecture on how EBV causes ME/CFS?
after my ebv infection in october of 2019 i spent the next 9 months vomiting up all the food i ate, i literally couldn't hold anything in. i lost 15kg in like 2 weeks, then luckily stayed on the border to medical underweightness for the rest of the time. it randomly stopped by itself in july this year, to this day no doctor has found out why exactly i couldn't stop throwing up. ever since my immune system has also been super weak, i get sick almost every week. when i got ebv, i was 17, now i'm almost 19 (bday in february). at least this video kinda helps me understand how my body reacts to it

Ever since this was a part of our learning from home assignments, I have been watching these videos for fun, and I feel my brain growing and wrinkling, day by day.
EBV is the cause of the syndromes/ diseases we have. For instance, I recently fount out I had this for many many years not knowing how or why. I’m still confused about it. I was diagnosed with Amplified Pain Syndrome and Fibromyalgia when I was 12. I’m 20 now.

I've read Mono has an oral shedding time of 5.2 months on average, the shortest being 28 days and the longest being 3.1 years (Grimm JM, et al., 2016).
I got EBV when I was 19 and was in ICU for 14 days and it caused my spleen to rupture and had to get blood transfusions my liver inflame and ended up with pneumonia. It was terrifying. Thanks for all the information!

Can one be more susceptible to EBV if one has herpes simplex virus in their system?

I had mono at age 19. High fever for a couple days and then I thought I was getting back to normal but I wasv always super tired for a couple of months after.
A friend got it and had to be hospitalized for a week. Knocked him right out.
