- Minecraft survival. Today we look into mimicking some of the features of railcraft in vanilla Minecraft. First we try to make highly reliable minecart tracks that prevent the problems of chunk unloading, and then we attempt to get cart routing working.

Here's the problem with your smart tracks: the detector rail needs to be in the next chunk. Like, for a cart holder that intercepts carts as they travel from chunk A to chunk B, the detector rail needs to be in the first (or maybe second) block of chunk B, instead of the last block of chunk A where you currently have it. Remember: the point of the detector rail is to send an all-clear signal to the next cart, and the way _won't actually be clear_ unless/until chunk B is loaded. Put another way: you said "one minecart per chunk," and putting the detector rail in chunk B ensures that the next cart won't enter chunk A until after this cart has left it.
Very true....what about a pez dispenser in between chunks?
In other words, the minecarts are giving the "All Clear!!" signal a couple blocks too early
The big problem is that besides maybe item movement in mass quantity which you won't wanna set this up for is worthless

This was one of your best episodes lately, truly "minecraft done technical" :-)
This is one of the main reasons I still watch Etho after all these years. Lots of people do redstone, build farms, etc. Etho tries things no one else would even think of attempting in vanilla survival Minecraft. I like his other videos/series too, but for me, this is one of the things that makes Etho's channel special.
With your minecart system you can have a chest minecart with up to 27 different tickets in it and follow it with yourself in a minecart... 27 different tickets for 27 junctions in a row, but if you take junction 1 as opposed to junction 2, the following 26 tickets will have different sets of junctions... What I'm saying is that you could essentially have that single chest minecart have you go anywhere on your map, literally. You can have a new destination every 32 blocks in both the x and z directions for a few million blocks in any direction. Not to mention that you can have any number of different tickets, not just 1-27!
Yup exactly! You can even tell the minecart to go to a station to pick up more tickets, so there are no limits on the number of junctions it can handle in a trip.
That is a very good idea, keep up all the good work.

Well, he actually has been using custom thumbnails for a while now. They aren't clickbait, Etho just chooses a relevant image from the actual video. I feel a better thing to say would be 'without asking for likes.' I wouldn't mind either way, asking or not- but I have a lot of respect for him refraining. I understand his reasoning about the whole system and I must admit 'CAN WE HIT 10,000 LIKES?' does really annoy me. If it is done non-obtrusively, (especially from a content creator I really enjoy) then it doesn't bother me in the slightest.
He hasn't changed anything about his content. Just the good old good. Same reason "Cops" TV show is so successful.
have you noticed how etho's series affect each other? when etho made the botania learning video on modded, a while after he made botania in sky factory. Also, after making a train station in modded, now he made a minecart special in survival. Anyone else find this interesting? xD It's normal since he's the same person, but it's still fun to observe
Actually, from watching quite a few of these videos, I would have to say there's fairly conclusive evidence that Etho is many different people at the same time.

Etho said he wanted to get into botania on his modded so he would know the mod by the time he could get to it on the sky factory server. As for the minecart thing, I think Etho just likes to have modded level stuff in his lets play and doing railcraft in modded was the first thing that came to mind.
My favorite part of your channel is that it is pure minecraft. I hope that you keep it that way.
Etho, just finished watching your LP from the first episode of season 1 on chocolate island right up until this one and it has been a great experience to see how much Minecraft has changed from the days of alpha to today and how much you changed from the days of the 4 door mob trap to the Nexus. Excellent work, don't ever stop. I have an idea for the silverfish if you're still looking for one, how about a couple statues 15-20 blocks tall full of silverfish so when you attack them they disolve into hundreds of silverfish for an awesome effect and a great battle, like when Little Nicky turned into spiders

Etho, what if you used sloped tracks at each point where they just stop? This might just propel the minecart forward after a chunk gets unloaded

I don't think this would work because when the chunk is unloaded the entity is saved where it was so it would probably continue to work when the chunk is reloaded but he would have to be in the chunks which kind of defeats the whole purpose

It would probably be red stone iron that, if you smelt you get an iron, and if you put it in a crafting window you get two red stone dust.
obsidian ore, so you don't have to use a diamond pick, but they have to be as rare as diamond
I would think dense redstone ore.
ruby because they replaced it with emerald and it would be used to make armor and tools like diamond but slightly less rare and slightly weaker too

It Amazes me how after 461 eps of single-player minecraft how this genius of a man is still finding amazing things i didnt know this game could do, i dont play much minecraft anymore but damn its still my favorite game of all time.
Red stone truly is one of the more ingenuous video game ideas ever. The stuff you can create is amazing
There's a way to do minecart routing somewhat cheaper than your way. Put one hopper under the track with the ticket filters. Then, whenever a ticketed minecart rolls over the hopper, use a comparator to move it onto another track that runs under the hopper. It should pick its ticket back up and continue on its way. That way, you don't need multiple hoppers for your sorters and you won't have any ticket buildup or shortage. You can also have one ticket activate multiple junctions in series.
Or, if you do it your way, you could at least have another minecart come by to empty out the ticket chests.
But if the same minecart picked it up it would switch the tracks again if you used the same track to go back.

Great video, I havent been on youtube for school and I was busy for Christmas, but Im back and ai cant wait to binge the rest of your videos that I missed.
I said it a lot of times and now that you are talking about Starbound I will say it again. Do one of these 2D Sandbox games in your Minecraft Let's Play Style, with cuts and all that. Don't do it uncut like you did with your Terraria Playthrough. People barely watched that to begin with. I always wanted a different game in your style but you always did other games uncut :(

The minecarts are like Schrödinger's cat. When the chunks are unloaded, the minecarts are neither moving nor standing still. Only if you move back in the chunks, you know the answer, but you'll never know what happens when the chunks unload.
Almost but im pretty sure the minecarts would be stopped in an unloaded chunk
You got your quantum physics wrong. The unloaded minecart should be moving *and* standing still for it to be a quantum particle. Like Schrödinger's cat, who is alive *and* dead at the same time.
All this fancy cart stuff and you still haven't finished the mobile chest room.. smh

I just love the fact that etho has stayed so close to his roots. I know other youtubers have evolved and expanded and changed and some have died off but etho...oh boy ethoslab honestly has the most consistent and loyal fan base sticking with etho no matter what. I do wish etho would experiment with more types of videos more often rather than the occasional series of new games. But, it's his original formula that makes me love him.
Hey Etho, I was looking at your chunk unloading problem, and after a couple hours I am pretty confident I fixed it. The redstone is a little messy, but it works nonetheless. I am able to unload chunks and even log out and it will continue to work. Let me know if you want to see it!
Etho's made: a working pet, a man cave, multiple pigmen farms, killed the enderdragon, built the nexus, and built an endermen farm. Yet Etho has not made a auto smelter.. Why Etho?

What an amazing concept, by far one of my favorite minecraft videos for a while now. Can wait to see some of these new tracks implemented into your world! Also, I'm not personally a fan of starbound, but I think you should record it, you always make the content interesting and fun to watch, no matter what it is.

On the theme of this episodes question, if cube world was to ever get updated again would you once again play it. It was a game that to me had so much promise and I was so excited to play. I am sad that the creator does not spend more time on it.

You should make the ticket detector take a ticket, scan and direct you one way, and then on the other side give it back to you! Btw, if you use tickets you don't need detector rails so it would solve your problem with the unloading chuck design. Keep the great video's coming! I love this type of episode! :)

Hey etho, why not have it so if the hopper doesn't pick up a ticket it goes past the station, but if it does it switches (_the other way around you showed to us_), so you have to put in just 1 ticket for the destination.

Hey Etho. I'm a really old fan of yours (like really really old fan that used to watch your super old mine craft videos of chocolate island) and I haven't watched your videos in a few years. I remembered you and just watched this and honestly I cried because I was so happy you're still having a great time playing this game you love. At the time I watched your videos I was going thru a harsh time in my life but when I got home I'd make sure to watch your videos because its oddly very soothing (idk. Ik I'm weird but I hope someone thinks the same). I hope one day I can really thank you for helping me thru that. Keep up the amazing work and have a great day :))
