My new therapy is watching a Dr Katz episode a day...I've been doing this for 10 days now...sometimes I do a double dose...My life has drastically improved. I am now happy and have purpose in life.
this show is on a short list of like 5-10 shows i am embarrassed i did not appreciate till it was too late. i graduated hs in '93 and Dr. Katz was right in my wheelhouse when it was out yet somehow i didn't get it at the time...prolly too much crack cocaine and xanax
@@MrBraffZachlin Yeah, squiggle-vision is hell on a crack bender! Try the new "Ten Year Old Tom" and classic "The Life and Times of Tim", two shows by Steve Dildarian that are of similar ilk and caliber as Dr. Katz.
This was one of the most simplest, funny, enjoyable cartoon ever made. Jonathan got all his comedians friends guest slots, Silverman and a young H. Jon were perfectly cast. I love Dr. Katz relationship with Ben. My son is 11 and I think our relationship is heading that way. Caring, ribbing, I cook for him, we generally like each other, he commented I drink to much wine. I get it
I love it when that weird little dude with the hand puppet shows up in episodes, like at 3:11 he's always shown in the waiting room as the next guy to see Dr Katz.
"You've been drinking more." "No, I think you've just been noticing it more." lmao. good times. Katz poured himself an entire glass of wine...lol. Not a glass of beer, an entire glass of wine, in a beer-sized glass.
I like that an overall plot in an episode of Dr. Katz is something like this where Dr. Katz has maybe two glasses of wine with dinner and his son Ben is immediately concerned about his dad having become "a drunk."
Of all of these episodes this one was my favorite it stayed with me the longest. Before I stumbled on all of these episodes I used to have so many of these lines in my everyday life for the last 20 some years. Great show
redryan20000 That may be because they are both H Jon Benjamin doing the voice acting. Dr. Katz and Home Movies are both done by the same production company. And both shows fucking rule.
What a terrific medium. So many comics , I WOULD NOT have heard of . The animation is better than the actual facial expressions due to the talent of ( Some-freakin-body ) . Subtle ? Yeah mon !
im trapped in fucking spain at my dads place with nothing to do and watching a show about insane people is the only thing keeping me sane. yeah ironic. damn this is funny, so glad i found this show. Dear God Thank You That Dr. Katz Exists On Earth.
Early H Jon Benjamin sighting as Ben! He’s gotten much better with the ladies as Coach McGirk from Home Movies on Adult Swim’s Cartoon Network & currently Sterling Archer in Archer on FX. Great voice actor! He’s also Bob from Bob’s Burgers on Fox. 🤓
5:45 "There's a special on tv on this drunk guy, you should watch that" "Whats that called" "It's called uh Drinky Guy, who drinks all the time" "Drinky the Drunk Guy?" "Yeah who's name is 'My Dad'"
They used Neumann U87 mics for this show. Which is what basically all pro studios use for voice acting... but I could see people assuming that a low budget show like this would use SM58’s and whatnot
@@logancoykendall7985 Well they probably rented studio recording time where they HAVE these mics. Cheaper than getting the gear for the own studio, especially for when you are on a limited budget. I'm sure they got a good deal.
As a kid I used to watch this show without understanding like half of the stuff. I think I've seen a comment under one of the episodes where someone else mentions that as a kid he used to watch it for that cozy talking feeling, probably similar to the feeling one expirience listening to a podcast. I mean the translation was fine, it's just that some topics of this show one just cannot completely understand and appreciate until he's completely mature.
Same. But I watched in my twenties and still a lot went over my head. But even back then I enjoyed the deadpan delivery. Since Lucy Daughter of the Devil and Bob's Burgers I've become a hardcore Loren Bouchard appreciator, so I imagine I was keying into the elements he contributes even way back then.
i still say drinky the drunk guy all the time and nobody has ever caught the reference. i often say 'professor bigsworthy' from the one where ben buys the giant tv too lol
Love this show-especially this episode. I remember watching this with my dad when it originally aired. And we kind of joked around about how HE was a big degenerate alcoholic. Which actually turned out to be the case. He died drunk from drinking about 5 years ago. But how cute was Janeane Garafalo back then??
when I had my own house, with my own setup, I could easily relax without it. fire up the ps4, I'm good to go. now my kid plays the ps4, my grandmother wanders around in the middle of the night looking for snacks that give her kidney stones, and my mother lays around watching the x files. I can sit in the craft room and drink and watch youtube. I know this is a problem. good freaking episode.
13:57 R: "It's less and less every year. Just a card now. That's all." K: "Really" R: "Card." K: "I heard you" I don't know why, but this sequence cracked me right up
Oh..... this must be the show that one episode of Arthur made fun of. Micking this art style and humor as a bit. This is the first time I've watched this show so I'm just now getting that Arthur joke over 20 years later..
That "joke" at the beginning is so good. I wish people could understand how f****** good that is.. and at 0:34 when she asks "it's not"? is just brilliant. One of my all-time favorite shows and this might be my favorite episode.
"I'm not so much disagreeing with you as I'm agreeing with what I said."
