Why is Daemon still sitting on his ass after 5 episodes of tripping balls receiving toxic masculinity reconditioning therapy and lectures about the plight of women under the patriarchy having trouble raising an army when he is the most experienced, charismatic and renowned warrior of his time, with Valyrian steel and a dragon until he gets the help of a woman who is most likely giving him the forced therapy? Especially when the book says Alys had no affect on him at all and by this time he had already taken Stone Hedge easily resulting in Riverland banners flocking to him. The feminist fan fiction is exhausting.

About the female characters not being flawed, yes, Alicent absolutely is portrayed as a very flawed person.
But Rhaenyra, Rhaenys and Mysaria are not. They are never called out. That's because they are women who reject their societal norms, while Alicent accepts and embraces them, and the writers want to send the message that Alicent is wrong in her choice, while those other characters are right.
In Hollywood, when a female character is accepting a more 'tradionally' female role, this is never because she made such a choice out of her own agency, it always has to be that she has been influenced or brainwashed by Men to think like that. The only "right choice" a woman can make is to reject femininity.
That's why this show protects Rhaenyra, Mysaria and Rhaenys, but not Alicent. Because Alicent is the wrong kind of woman in their view.

I can't help but feel unsatisfied by Season 2 so far, the set up feels like set up rather than actual story. Daemon is spinning wheels in Harrenhal, Rhaenrya is sitting around waiting for the other people to come up with ideas and plots, the smallfolk are being set up, Addam and Alyn, Alicent's now powerless. It feels like the only characters actually making decisions are Aemond, Aegon, and Cole, which is why those are the characters that have been the most interesting.

These two characters had zero romantic chemistry and didn't share a scene together until 4 episodes ago. 2:21:21 Ryan and Mauler don't get it. The dragons having such completely different names is what makes it feel real. It makes complete sense for dragons bred by Targaryens to be given Valyrian names, but a wild dragon like Sheepstealer will instead be named by the common folk who encounter her, hence her name.
And many of the dragons are named by their first riders, so it makes complete sense that different riders prefer vastly different names. "Moondancer" sounds like a name a little girl might give to a pony. That's because Moondancer is Baela's dragon, hatching in her crib, so she literally was named that by a little girl.

If a woman like Rhaenyra had been as awesome as Daemon and Viserys were in season 1, they would have swept every award available. The show seems like it's trying to make us root for Rhaneyra over Alicent but all Rhaneyra has mostly done this season is _be indecisive_ and then, when she _does_ make decisions, getting people killed. And yet there's this unpleasant undertone of "aw man all these mean people around me are holding me back and preventing me from doing what I want to do" when she is the literal Queen for the Blacks. I could be wrong, of course, and I kinda choose to believe this isn't the case, because it makes the scenario more believable that she's simply out-of-her-depth as a general when she was raised to be more of a diplomat. Meanwhile, the Black's _general_ is over at Harrenhal _trying_ to learn the ropes of diplomacy on-the-fly
Conversely Alicent, at this point, has been progressively pushed out of the circles of power she worked so hard to get into (by her own children, no less) yet we're watching her continue to machinate new ploys to keep control over a situation she's increasingly losing control of
I'm still enjoying the dynamic of the show, as there's just as much "warfare" going on _within_ as there is going on against one another, but the words of Anita Sarkeesian ring through the decade and make it difficult _not_ to separate any 'unspoken narrative' (be it intentional or not) from the true narrative of the story itself
I'll keep watching, but at least part of the reason for me watching is to see just _which_ episode they indisputably hook the top of their foot under the proverbial hurdle and fall flat on their face. As it stands now, however, I'm willing to let the story unfold and see if some of the eyebrow-raising moments tie together later on. And if they don't, well, it'll still be quite spectacular either way 🙃

Yeah first season was better. For me personally, Paddy Considine was the best part of the show. With him gone, it's just not the same. If he was here, it would at least make up for some of the poor writing. I don't mind slow episodes that build stuff up, but five of the six episodes have been like that and it's getting ridiculous. Some of the narrative choices have also started drifting into woke territory so that doesn't help either. We are all desperate for good entertainment but unfortunately this is going downhill fast.

They have not done any real work to get the white worm and rhaenrya to be together the way they did this episode. And if you look at the white worm and her scenes, you realize that the writers are just having her end up where they want her to be. Oh shes a whore who daemond liked and now shes a master of whispers for the smallfolk but now shes lost her power and fleeing for her life because of the greens but now shes the master of whispers again for some reason for rhaenrya while having the hots for her. Theres no bridging of these ideas, just the final results. Which makes that makeout scene between rhaenrya and the white worm that much more weird because there was almost nothing to show they liked each other until their tongues were down their throats.
Also rhaenrya was whoring around alot when she was younger and never bothered to be with a women but all of the sudden now shes trying tbe other isle of the sexes when she vowed off whoring around? You can tell this was just some arbitrary push by a new writer who wanted to "shock" he viewers with a lesbian kissing scene.
Also i want to say this as well. Rhaenyra is starting to become a miserable character. You can tell the writers are siding with her and having her be the correct person at the end of her scenes. Rhaenyra can scream for the death of allicents child but its purely daemons fault. Rhaenyra can scream at her council thats just trying to seek victory in this war while Rhaenyra says she wants to do what she wants to do because shes a spoiled child. Rhaenyra can get an innocent man killed by having him attempt to fly a dragon and its the elderly man fault at the end for berating her for makint such a stupid decision. Its all of that and just every scene with Rhaenyra feels virtually the same. "Im queen and no one is listening and i should be doing what i want and i should be out in the war with my dragon." Rhaenyra, you're one the most important people who also has literally no experience in this thing youve been thrusted into. Listen to tbe people who know more than you. The realities of wagon transport are stopping it. Kings landing has a population of nearly 1 million. In an age before trains and trucks, the only way to haul enough food in to feed that population is by boat. The city needs so much farmland that by the time grain and produce from the outer farms arrived the people and animals hauling it would have eaten it all.
There's a reason the only premodern cities to get close to this size (e.g. Rome) were built on navigable waterways.

      2. Character arcs for several main characters completely changed direction in between seasons (for the worse). It is especially apparent with Rhaenyra and Alicent who act out of character for most of the season so far.
      3. Worldbuilding is a joke. King's Landing is supplied with food mainly by land, in HotD and GoT both. There is zero reason for city to starve from blockade alone. Stark army does not need to cross the Twins. Viserys whispering name of a heir does not matter. Whether in the book or the show's canon.
      4. Pacing is barely alive. Characters are just stumbling from scene to scene as if nothing is at stake.
      5. "Medieval feminism" is so preachy and dumb it is laughable.

I mean this episode was literally written by one of the writers from the Acolyte!!! Like textbook slop you guys make fun of every time you review this show but you can't notice a majority of the same failings present in this show from the same writer???
I'm not saying the show is completely devoid of good, I thought episodes 1-4 were pretty good overall, 4 being great even, and even in this episode the scene with Larys and Aegon and Gwayne and Alicent were great, but I feel like you guys really need to take off the gloves and start holding these writers to a higher standard cause they've shown us they're capable of that with earlier episodes (Eileen Shim also wrote lord of the tides, one of the best episodes of season 1, she can do better and should!)

I have been overwhelmingly generous this season, but it feels like maybe Miguel should’ve stayed on. Because there’s a lack of craft happening. Plots will be interesting and then the pace will drop, a piece of dialogue will be solid, but it’s not shot successfully for the scene, the characters that should have dynamic aspects of them are boring, and the general just inability to keep Consistency.
Miguel may have been the gloss holding craft together. And whomever is making the decisions to change so much of the book plot, i.e. making a Rhaenyra, the cheater, and dumb down, every major positioning from season one in the build of Rhaenyra’s and Daemon’s bond, only to then to throw him inside of a castle for six episodes, with no chemistry in the plot. Except when Milly Alcock came back, I’m just dumbfounded that Nettles is being cut and the entire plot given to the daughter. I don’t know I’m just like a mess. I thought this was going to be, a stronger storytelling experience than Game of Thrones. Season one and I would say episode three and four of the season work really really well done. But I can’t explain the rest of this. It’s just too inconsistent and I don’t understand much of it. Maybe they will fix it! Maybe I’m totally wrong!

HOTD season 2 is overall quite good, especially when they stick to the source material, as they tend to do a solid effort then.
But again and again, especially this season, they put some lone blunders in each episode which really bug me. They're just so predictably bad and I can't see how anyone would not point that out when taking a second look at the writing. They really need to navigate these things carefully from now on, the audience will not be satisfied when characters constantly whine and develop in circles. It is very satisfying when both parties are competent and move the plot forward.
The hard focus on Alicent and especially Rhaenyra needs to stop, as it stagnates the plot. We need more ensemble action. Let the likes of Jace, Aemond, Criston etc. shine on their own.
All that critic Uhuism aside though, when HOTD hits, it hits hard, as we saw in episode 4 and many other scenes in S1. So please dear writers, calm it with the Rhaenyra melodrama.

Each episode has short comments about things that if they showed us would make a great interesting episode all its on. Instead we get more talk and no action with nothing advancing the story. Just circling the idea something will happen. Compared to season 2 of GOT this is about one fifth as interesting.
And Damon. My group was watching and literally screaming, if you are being poisoned or witchcraft is making you crazy, and you have a dragon just leave. So we were happy when he was headed for the dragon, but then lets himself be manipulated into staying. Dude, this is out of character to be this stupid.
