    Hi from Sweden! Watching this and reading the comments make me speechless....I've worked for 35+ years as a licensed special nurse here in Sweden, and I'm always so, so sad when reading stories like this. Can't quite get how you cope in US with your health care system. I have relatives living in N.Y area, so have an understanding of the costs. Our system is so totally different, all is paid through our taxes, and it doesn't matter if your rich or poor. Grateful to live here, it must be a huge burden to worry about the cost on top of an illness.

    This really breaks my heart 😞. How can we fund wars , but we can’t take care of cancer patients ? The people that’s been paying tax , taking care of the country ? How do we put a price on something like cancer ? 😞. My husband had multiple myeloma 2 yrs ago, so I understand. He’s in remission now , with medications to maintain it. We’re trying to get stem cells transplant soon. I wish you healing my dear, lay this be behind you soon . You have a very loving wife 🙏🏾🥰🥰

    I just turned 65 and as a Canadian living in the States I really need a lot of care, however I can’t afford too, even with insurance I have accepted that when it my time comes I will accept it. Too bad that my lifespan is decided on what I can afford. But I feel lucky to have made it to 65. You guys are much younger so I understand where you are coming from. Sending love and prayers to y’all. ❤️❤️

It’s just too crazy. I Stay only for my kids and grandchildren. Sending Love ❤️❤️ thank goodness I’m retired as it’s too hard to imagine being in an office, not knowing what is ok to say and not offend.

    I have had cataract surgery and also grappled with this. Eye doctors are not good at explaining the options and they also have some incentive to push you to multifocal lenses. My eye surgeon shared with me that he frequently has patients come to him asking him to remove their multifocal lenses and replace with single because those more complex lenses do not deliver on their promised functionality.
    All this is to say, if Kyle is getting both eyes done, I would encourage him to have one eye pegged for distance and one eye for reading. This is called monovision. I have done this and it is amazing! I see clearly both at a distance and for reading. It takes some adjustment, but it is truly working so well for me. Let me know if you want to talk. I am young (for cataract surgery) so I understand how weighty this decision feels and what a potential loss you feel like you’re facing. Best of luck.

    I am livid at health insurance companies. THEY are the reason our healthcare has tanked. THEY dictate what can and can't be done. THEY rake in literally BILLIONS of dollars in profits every year to the detriment of their customers. It's sickening, really.

    Rachel it really is such BS that our country (the richest) country has such terrible coverage for ill people and the elderly. I don’t know how people make it that have health issues. Insurance costs a fortune then what they don’t cover and you pay out of pocket is absolutely ridiculous. Some people are very ignorant when they make such rude comments about what you should do. Obviously they’ve never had health issues. God bless you and Kyle🙏🏼🙏🏼

    Glad you now have the money to get the most advanced lenses. I just had this surgery done on my eyes, two weeks apart and am now 1 month after the last eye was done. The surgery was painless and not at all scary. The worst part was just getting the IV for the minimal amount of sedative that I was given. Good luck! I hope your surgery and your results are as good as mine!

    I went with the first option. I had chosen option 2 during my measurements I have a problem with my eye and it will not work for me. I went with the one insurance paid. Everything is clear and I see far away without glasses. I just wear reading glasses when I read a book. Mid range vision is very good also. At first I was sad but I had been wearing reading for many years. You will be blown away by the beautiful sights around you, colors will beautiful. For a year I thought the paint on our walls had started turning brown. The world around you will become a much more beautiful. The details of trees, the color of the sky, looking into your wife’s eyes. I am thankful and blessed that option 1 that insurance paid for! Please research I believe the priciest option there is glare off the lenses that is hard to get used to at night. The joy you will feel the following day after surgery when you take the patch off for a bit. I think you will be surprised. Surgery was pain free, and we were in and out the door in 1 hour and 15 minutes. Sending big hugs from Heide in Texas!

      Wow! Thank you for sharing your experience with me. I am so glad it was such a pleasant experience for you and cannot wait to see Kyle amazed by all he can see again. My heart is already swelling at the thought. We did not go with the option 4 which is the most expensive and I think the one you are speaking of with the glare. The surgeon didn't even tell us about about because he was like you wouldn't be pleased with it. The option 3 the one we are going with I think will be perfect because since Kyle is only 45 he still has really good ability to see close up so he just doesn't want to loss that. Which I understand with everything he has been through. Excited to see how he feels once he comes out of surgery later this week!

    Health insurance in our country Has nothing at all to do with quality of care. That those companies decide what they are willing to cover without a care in the world about what's best for the patient is insidious.

    When one is hit by a major diagnosis, there will be a lot of out of pocket expenses. Am wondering if you have income. I understand Kyle isnt well enough to work and Rachel needs to be home for him. Do you run a biz or work from home?

    • @SimplyRachelOBare
      @SimplyRachelOBare  4 месяца назад +1

      You are right it comes with so many expenses. To answer your question, we have been so fortunate that Kyle was eligible to hire me as a home health care worker so I get paid to care for him. It’s not a lot but it HELPS. Kyle also is able to get disability which is FAR from any amount someone could live off. I also walk dogs twice a week which is great for my mental health and a little extra money to put toward groceries. I am starting to make money from RUclips but its about $50 a month at this point. Most of Kyle’s care has been paid thanks to our GoFundMe and the generosity of others. We could not do it without that. Just one of his protocols alone is $1000 a month it all adds up so quickly and that support has been truly a godsend to relieve alot of that stress but it’s always there and it never feels like we have enough. That said I am constantly over here trying to figure out other ways we can bring in more money. That was long and maybe more than you asked for but I want to be truly honest and transparent.
