    Always used blue striped Golf Pride or Orange/Grey plastic tees until this week. Somehow I used a pink tee for the first time ever. What a difference it made to my game. For the first time I was hammering the ball down the fairway. I’ll be taking the others out my bag and replacing them with pinks. It was such a pleasant surprise.

    Well done Andy. It was nice to see this quantified. I have always heard that you tee up the driver with half the ball above the face but this is the first time I have seen it demonstrated as to why. Thanks

    Pink for me Andy, used to use the orange but found I was "skying" too many drives. Most people I play golf with tend to use pink also.

    Great stuff Andy.........normal height for most drives..........downwind I use 4" tees and get as high as I can!...........Thanks for all you do for us!

    I use Pink... I used to use Orange/grey depending on brand. But found it got the ball high but too high if that makes sense.

    This video came to mind yesterday a few holes into the round, on the elevated tees with a bit of wind my drives were ballooning and so i tried the lower white tee and it worked a treat. kept the ball lower with no real loss of distance, in fact i had the opportunity on a few holes to try 2 drives 1 with each tee (white and pink) and saw very little difference between the drives.
    not something i would have even considered before so thanks for another great vid.

    Andy , on this video I suggest to use foot powder ou tape to show where on the club you hitted the ball depending on the tee height used.

  • @mawe6628

    I use both, the pink and orange, depending on ground condition and height of grass. When the ground is dry and firm and grass is cut short the pink is giving the best height, but when the ground is soft and wet and grass is not cut short then the orange gives you the best (1/2 ball) height. Since these fly away and you always need to search for them after you hit the ball, I have put both on a 4" string connected to each other. The one I use to tee the ball up is basically stringed to the other resting beside on the floor and holding it back from flying of the tee box.

    Assuming neutral atmospheric and terrain conditions, my understanding is that the club head's CG position relative to it's neutral axis, in combination with delivered dynamic loft (angle of attack + loft where the ball is struck on the club face, which varies based on roll and bulge in order to generate gear effect), should be coordinated with tee height to optimize the combined launch angle and spin outputs for the accompanying swing/ball speed. As in, long drive contestants are typically inclined to employ higher tees which permit them to hit up on the ball as much as possible; but they also loft down to prevent excessive spin ... i.e., a higher tee typically calls for a lower-lofted driver, and vice versa

  • @tonywestwell
    @tonywestwell 5 лет назад

    I use all 3 White into wind pink neutral or no wind and orange down wind the work great for me. I’m inconsistent with the straight tees so I use these. Great explanation Andy keep it up.

  • @banditbaker1675

    I mainly use wooden graduated tee pegs and tee it up around the height of the Pink plastic tee. The problem with using the plastic set height tees is that if the grass on the tee box is a little high the Pink tee then "looks" way too low. But my pet HATE is golfers who tie two tees together with a piece of string so that they don`t loose the tee! They are usually the same golfers who suddenly have to leave the club house when it`s their round!!!!!!!!!!! Tight B-------`s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    A very good & interesting Test. I use the White/Blue wooden tees and vary the height due to conditions and how my swing is behaving on the day. Usually the height is somewhere between pink & orange.

  • @BobbyKewley
    @BobbyKewley 6 лет назад

    I use the pink ones mostly. Was playing the other day and due to the hot weather we've had, some of the ground on the tee boxes was really hard. On one particular tee I couldn't push the pink tee peg all of the way in and left it standing a few mm higher than it's supposed to. The resulting drive was possibly the best I've hit all year! Will have to try that again 🙂

  • @timtalksleadership1015

    I really enjoyed this test. I tee the ball based on the desired direction and ball flight. All things being equal I attempt to always tee the ball with the equator level with the top of my driver.

    Depends on the wind, I'll tee low for a lower flight but I'd say orange for distance. Ok, so after the video, totally agree, mid height tee work best for me as well, better rollout and control.

    The key is attack angle. I was recently told by PGA pro that tour average is 2-3 degrees up. So whatever delivers that for you is probably the best.

    Can’t believe you’ve done this Andy, I was only searching this very question last week looking for this answer. Bought some of the orange tees and just got back from the range and course and the results for me have been ASTONISHING! Took about 40 balls to get used to the newer height as I’ve used pink tees with my G400 SFT set to 9.5, but the orange are now staying in the bag as I’ve literally just put 20-30 yards to my drives on the course. In fact I’ve never hit it so far!

    Hi Andy . I used the pink one for about 3 years woth my cobra amp cell. And it was fine. Then I swapped to the ping G driver and struggled with it until I changed to the orange one . I suppose it is worth experimenting with a few different tees until you find one that your comfortable with?

    I use the martini tee with the driver and have about 1/3 of ball over top of club. Also been trying the zero friction tees and finding them to be just as good for me so far and cheaper. :) Martini tees don't bust easy(3 in last 3 years), big cup so easier to tee up. Zero friction seem to be just that. I don't feel any tee when I hit with them. I don't like the martini tee for iron/fairway wood tee shots - just my preference - so the zero friction ones or the "four more yards" iron/fairway tees are what I use when teeing off with those clubs. Still use wood occasionally but not very often any more.
    I tried the type of tee you are using in this video but found that I didn't like 'feeling' the tee when I used them and also seem to break them every time I used them, which became expensive and cost versus regulated height of tee wasn't something that gave a plus to that type of tee for me.
    Both the martini tee and the zero friction tee do not seem to 'damage' or hurt the club. The zero tee with it's 3 small prongs holds the ball well AND gives almost 0% chance of tee coming in contact with the club head. At least for me.

    An interesting experiment but unfortunately it doesn't include essential information for optimising flight and distance. I have been doing this experiment myself just recently on Trackman to find my optimum tee height. It is important to include the driver loft, dynamic loft and face strike position as these change the results and conclusions. The pink tees may be optimum for you but may not be for everyone.

    Without driver loft numbers tee height numbers are skewed, your going to do better with the tee height that corresponds with your ball placement in your stance and the driver loft your using , if you use a 9 deg driver and tee more forward you're not going to want to tee it low.

    • @rickm1255
      @rickm1255 6 лет назад +1

      I absolutely use a different tee height for different situations. I used to tee the ball very low, lower than your white tee here, and my angle of attack was always down to the ball. Not a lot of roll but I felt like I could control it like a 3W. I then went really high and that was just too nerve racking, expecting the big sky mark on my beautiful driver head. The biggest improvement for me was going to something similar to the orange tee here but I now add about 10deg of spine angle towards my right foot at address. I'm hitting my driver further than I ever have, but I am unable to maintain the control I had at lower tees. I hate this game...

      Very much so. For me the higher tee allows me to hit just above centre on my driver face, thus lowering the spin and raising the launch angle, but I assume that my Callaway XR Sub Zero has a slightly deeper face than your G400 Max. Any data on face strikes Andy? I assume that you were worried about skying it from the orange tee you actually hit it lower on the face than the other 2 tees. Or I could be talking rubbish :)
