I learned a neat trick from the US Navy. At the bottom of ALL documents, in VERY small font
will be found the documents PATH-->network-server name-drive-folder-filename. If the document
is in hardcopy this will be printed at the bottom making it REAL easy to find.
    !

Pure gold tips Andy. Exceeded expectations. I wrongly assumed this would require PowerShell.

The search function never stopped working at one point and I never knew why. With your video I was able to figure out that somehow windows had excluded my drives for some unknown reason ?? but now I was able to put them back to be search .Thanks

This is all very interesting and helpful. I did not realize Windows has all these search options. However, I still prefer saving files in an old-fashioned tree structure, which works better for me. The only problem with this is that it takes time to move all new files to their correct subfolder. I find the basic Search tab in Windows to be totally useless because it brings up long lists of items that are not even files. I am a long time user of Windows, having started with Version 1, and even going back before Windows existed. I have found file searching increasingly exasperating over the years. Looks like I must devote time to rewatching and learning from this video. Thank you, nice information.

Quite a lengthy process when the "*" and *.* can find a group faster (ie. One knows that a file is a .JPG. Use *.jpg to find ALL files which end in .jpg extension. Use Andy*.jpg to find all the files which start with ANDY and are .jpg. etc.

1:00 the fact that you need to rely on a search to find what you are looking for shows that you are unorganized and don't understand structure. A good search engine can be beneficial to find something in a well organized structure when you forgot what the folders where named but remember a random file located though.

@@ic5761 because I was expecting something informative and valuable from a video promoting "search like a pro" but just the start "i search documents a lot" discredited this entire video. On top of that he is using the worst file search in computer history. When you search something use "Everything" or any other good search tool. But windows search is stealing performance in the background and is useless if you search something. Red flags 3/3

Im trying to delete duplicate photos and I'm searching (1) in the folder, it only highlights the filenames with (1) but shows every picture in the folder still. I want the search to only produce the pictures with (1) in the file name so I can select all and delete. Any help with this would be great.

Thank you for your video. I have a little problem; perhaps I'm doing something wrong. I'm new to W10 and I can't obtain any results if type a specific word which I know is in the body of some of my Word documents. e.g. I need a Word document that contains the word "Maryland". Windows 7 would look for the specific word in the specified folder and sub-folders. Windows 10 shows me nothing in the search results.

Blacking out the page to try and highlight one setting dose not help. It makes it very difficult to see if you have the correct page . You think it's a good idea but it's not really . I don't see more details it's not there in my Windows 10 .

Good question! I'm also trying to find duplicate files that have (1), or (2) etc. but i get results like abc (1).xzy AND abc (123456). the parentheses will match ANY value, or multiple values like (100, 200). but i haven't found a way yet to specify a SINGLE specific value inside parentheses, not even using "", like "(1)", which SHOULD give me EXACT matches only, but doesn't :-(
