Thank you so much! This is just the type of explanation I need. I've been wondering for years why folders show up in multiple places, and you cleared that up in the first few minutes. I am looking forward to getting a grip on File Explorer! I hope many more people find your channel.

Thank so very much! Finally, I've found someone who explains this stuff concisely and slowly, from the beginning, for people who have little to no background in computers. Everybody else on RUclips or in person I have tried to get help from assumes that I have pre-knowledge that I don't. I am an aged out general contractor trying to shift into insurance adjusting and computers have been the bane of my life recently. I know I can learn it I just can't jump in without the ground level information to build on. Thank you again. I am subscribed!

Just found your channel and I’m in the same boat. My mom struggles with “simple” concepts, including file extension and browser tabs. I struggle with balancing my degree of simplification. If I’m too complex she will give up because she doesn’t think she CAN understand it, but if I am too basic, she thinks that I think she’s too stupid to understand.
Also, she will say something like “how do I make this larger?” Then she will get mad when I respond “what is THIS? I don’t know what you are pointing to.” The result is daily yelling matches followed by pep talks (and my unspoken concern that she is suffering memory loss).
BTW, I may edit or delete this comment because I might send her a link to your channel and don’t want her seeing my comment.

The chevrons appear in the Navigation Pane.
You can turn this on by clicking View at the top of the screen. Then on the left, click the Navigation Pane button. You'll see a drop down. Make sure Navigation Pane is checked.

I sure hope someone can help me. Going down my navigation pane I have three copies of everything. When I highlight a file I get various file paths from each of the copies. For example in pictures one will have diskD this PC pictures. Another will have Only This PC, Pictures. Another will say DiskD, this PC, One drive, pictures. I'm really confused and would like to clean this mess up. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

@Steve Loudon & @Lori Wooten - Mouser: Remember Nerd S. Speaks Of Seeing Multiple 'Views Or Instances' Of The Same Thing...Windows Has A Somewhat Complex System Of Distributing Files & Folders Depending On Your 'View' Settings & Layout...Play With Those To See If Maybe That Helps...But Many Items Are Just The Same Info Just Listed A Different Way...Worrying About The Drives, Extensions, Etc Is More Advanced & Unless It's Broke Don't Fix It - For Now - As Your Learning The Basics!

File Explorer is a part of Windows, so it should be there. Did you try pressing the Windows Key + E to run it?
You might need to do some reading to find a solution. Do a Google search for something like "file explorer not working windows 8.1" and check some of the links for a solution.

Ditto. I turn on CC to read what he is saying and turn down the audio. CC = closed captioning. (a term that does NOT make any sense!!) But CC is helpful for hearing impaired.
