Can the people who claim the booing was for the governor also explain then why the booing was also happening when Max got interviewed and when he got his medal? It wasn't just with the trophy, so saying it was for the Abbott guy doesn't seem actually true 😅
As a mexican I'm actually embarassed and pretty much not looking forward to the upcoming weekend. We can be very VERY petty, the boos for Max I'm pretty sure are from mexicans still remembering Brazil last year and thats not even the worse example, we still remember that penalty from the Netherlands in whatever World Cup it was from Robben. I hope the people who attend can stay civil and just enjoy the race (there were boos last year for Hamilton, for whatever reason). If Checo is in a tight spot it's his fault, hopefully he can get a grip and not lose that P2 but time will tell.
And this also reminds me of Helmut Marko's remark of some cultures being more inclined to act from the heart rather than cold, calculating and rational. Then people wanted to cancel him over basic stereotypes. What happens next is that other people clearly showed why those stereotypes even exist in the first place. Personally I hope for Checo to have a good result. Would love to see him win Mexico. Don't think he's in that form yet. Also hope he manages to cling on to P2. I don't think Checo's championship material, but most F1 drivers don't have a P1 or P2 as highest standing in the championship during their career. Let's see him leave that slump behind him.
Very healthy and levelheaded response. I'm pretty sure many Mexicans are not like this. I like their passion for the sport but of course too many disrespectful sounds towards Max. Unacceptable. Then again, the Dutch can be horrible as well, as can the Brits. So it's not just Mexico. I think there were a few Americans as well as they don't like winners.
@FrancisFjordCupola I mean, stereotypes are difficult to deal with. The way people tend to think about them is that they are a general rule for a culture. As a Mexican, there are lots of them for us (we like spicy food, we like tequila, etc), they way I approach them is, if you go to the country, expect to find a lot of that, but they can't be applied individually to every single person of that culture (which is what Helmut did). To me, there were 2 things to take away from that situation 1) Helmut should think a bit more before speaking. 2) Us Mexicans have some work to do if we want other cultures to perceive us in a better light.
@artemisd.9450 I mean booing an individual is part of the sport. I'm also an NBA fan and there's a lot of that. The problem is booing during a national anthem. Keep it inside the sport. The country itself, their culture, the people, their history, shouldn't be booed. I bet that if it was the other way around, every single Mexican would've lost their minds "¿Qué verga les pasa? ¿Por qué abuchean nuestro hermoso himno?" That's my problem with it
GP actually was flying home right away. It was (obviously) already known by Max. So it looked a bit weird. But it was just nothing more like a "OK, I gotta catch a plane, cya Friday. Xoxo".
With all their strategies, funny (yet not surprising) how they chose the one where they sit and slowly die on track while everyone else adapts and pits for fresher tires.
Really hate watching a great race and waking up the next day to see the FIA caught Fer and Merc with less wood than allowed. I understand it’s the rules but still hate seeing Disqualifications after the race.
To be fair, the booing happened when Greg Abbott, the Governor of Texas, was up there. And he is a SUPER conservative very hated person in a much more liberal city. So yeah, good chance a lot of the boos were for him, not Max.
I mean, the average TV viewer wouldn't tell on first glance would they, as they'd only view the booing within the context of the sport and not outside of it. So it would be natural to be uncomfortable with it when they can't tell the difference between booing Max and booing the Governor of Texas.
They were booing during the interview, they were booing when Max walked onto the podium, they were chanting "checo" during the Dutch anthem. Why are y'all trying to find excuses for Mexican fans lol
well it is weird they only picked 4 cars to check and then when 50% weren't compliable, they didnt check anymore... also when max impedes someone in quali, fia just says they messed up but when lewis and charles do that, they get grid penalties
@@rodsitamara no cars had their floors checked following the Japanese GP, one was looked at after the Qatar sprint race and three cars assessed in the immediate aftermath of the full-length Qatar GP. @@JigsawLV These tests take a very long time. They don't just take a caliper to the floor of the car and check for 5 minutes and say it's out of spec. It did not take multiple hours for the decision to be made, it took hours for the testing to be done. The decision was immediate because it is a very black and white rule, either you are within spec or you are not.
Tbf: the Ferrari strat for Leclerc was on paper great. He went long enough on the mediums that a 1-stop should definitely be a good option on paper, didn't lose that much time on the medium, BUT the hards were absolute dogshit. This was the strat that both mercs tried to do and both failed due to the short medium stints, which Leclerc did manage to get long enough.
Now you know why the Mercedes looked so fast compared to the McLaren. The bouncing was also there, sk they used a low setup to get more downforce. As they used a higher setup, then he would have finished behind Lando. I think that they didn't check the other Mercedes.
I cannot believe I was bang on with my prediction on your post the other day. I said Logan would get his first points and be within two positions of Alex. I honestly didn’t even think it would happen

Matt needs to stop whining about the track limits its a part of the sport and they are policing it the way they should! We are never screaming and crying whenever a player almost save it but the ball goes out in futball because it's the rules of the game! We can't just complain when there is a rule you don't like because the rules....in general....are there to keep the playing field as level as possible fairly. They just need to do a better job of keeping it cut and dry so it is actually fair!
You know the 3 US GP thing is really only viable because of how spread out and large the US actually is. The continental US is larger than Europe (with the UK) and it would very much be like asking a person from London, to have to go to a race in Germany and that be the only race they get. Having 3 races spread across 3000 miles isn't really that odd.
Miami, Vegas, and Texas are all completely different cultures. Miami is rich in Hispanic/Cuban immigrant culture, Texas is the "Land of the Cowboy" and a route for Country culture, while Vegas is the land of money. Again, each state is the size (square mileage wise) is the size of a single country in the EU. The shear size of the land mass literally makes it impossible to have one culture. Also, a second race in Canada I'm sure would be more than welcomed. This argument comes down to exposure for the sport, and the more races across the world (regardless of how many take place in a single country) should be seen as a good thing. Hell, give me another British circuit, lets get Adelaide back in with Melbourne too. We already have 2 races in Italy and no one says anything about that, mostly because the tracks are historic and fun to watch. Only COTA is interesting in America, the Vegas layout looks, like a layout. @@allesaufanfang-sarah

Ferrari strategy reminds me of Mr Burns giving hand/body signals to Homer while he's up to bat and he ends up getting knocked out by the pitcher's ball since he's trying to decipher just what the hell Mr Burns is trying to say.
McLaren apparently went to the Ferrari School of Strategy. Why tf did they do that to Lando?? Also, corner cutting should obviously be penalized. But if there's a runoff available coming out of a corner, they should be allowed to use it. Otherwise, put grass, gravel, or a wall in those areas
I'd say they pulled a half-ferrari. Tried to go for a one-stop, a ferrari strategy move, then realised it wouldn't work and just scrapped it for a two-stop, so they didn't quite go full scuderia.
On TV direction, COTA has great braking zones but I feel like none of them are documented well enough. That Birds Eye view of the corner at the end of the back straight is great, but too many times they are level with the cars and see them get to the corner, then it awkwardly cuts to the next corner and you never see the overtake develop.

I don't think Checo's championship material, but most F1 drivers don't have a P1 or P2 as highest standing in the championship during their career. Let's see him leave that slump behind him.
Well so long as Max don't mind the booing, they can do it if it makes them happier 🤷🏻♀️
¿Por qué abuchean nuestro hermoso himno?" That's my problem with it
I appreciate the dedication to upload this right after the race Matt, bravo!
If either Ferarri does a one stop.. should have been Carlos. his tire management is top notch..
Thinking back its kinda coincidental how all things happen from Lec 1 stop to Sai 2 stops to lec letting sai pass to lec dsq to sai podium 😂😂
Carlos chose 2 stops he would tell the team to STFU if the team tell him to do 1 stop. Bc he alr complained of tire deg during sprint
Sainz would've fought the team because it's stupid.
How many times has Sainz gotten a podium without actually being on the podium now????
Brazil 2019, Hungary 2021, COTA 2023. Did I miss anything?
We're here for you Matt with your Ferrari struggles 🙏
Agree. 😂
After you get some sleep, we're going to need a 'Funniest Tweets from the USGP DQ."
I appreciate the Ian Beale reference, don't apologise for top shelf memes.
GP actually was flying home right away. It was (obviously) already known by Max. So it looked a bit weird. But it was just nothing more like a "OK, I gotta catch a plane, cya Friday. Xoxo".
Man GP is committed, flying commercial back to the UK for a few days, no spare PJ's
I had so much excitement for Lando when it looked like the one stop might actually work. Then he pitted and I gave up.
Let's see in Brazil, lots of high speed corners.
5:20 Good job Matt. You’ve now jinxed it…. 😭
Alonso, leclaire, hamilton got nothing out of this painful gran prix
Lesson learned: don't introduce "major" upgrades on a sprint weekend.
With all their strategies, funny (yet not surprising) how they chose the one where they sit and slowly die on track while everyone else adapts and pits for fresher tires.
Oh, wrong strategy, let's see plan Z, no look into plan A1, let's call Ross Brawn, he knows what to do. Oh got his voicemail. Let's do nothing then.
Really hate watching a great race and waking up the next day to see the FIA caught Fer and Merc with less wood than allowed. I understand it’s the rules but still hate seeing Disqualifications after the race.
Thanks to this win, Max now ties the record with Alonso of Wins by different grid positions. Both have won from 9 different grid positions.
Ferrari probably has so many Plans that they’re using Greek letters for the last few plans.
I thought Lando had a chance until I blinked
Carlos got a podium 🎉🎉🎉 and a hip of points 👏👏
@2:39 Crofty mentioned the “file cabinet” of strategies on Ferrari 😂.
Okay fine ill ruin my sleep schedule for a p1 video
Don't know what you're talking about. It's a cool 9pm release
@@IkLms11they probably live in a different time zone where it’s probably like 2am or something
They were booing the Texas governor. I was there and heard it all. He's not liked at ALL in Austin.
Austin is in Texas but it is not Texas.
LogiBear scores points !!!
Never was sure how to spell it, in my head it was a toss up between Logee, Logey or Lowghee.
They should check every car, just for the memes
To be fair, the booing happened when Greg Abbott, the Governor of Texas, was up there. And he is a SUPER conservative very hated person in a much more liberal city. So yeah, good chance a lot of the boos were for him, not Max.
I mean, the average TV viewer wouldn't tell on first glance would they, as they'd only view the booing within the context of the sport and not outside of it. So it would be natural to be uncomfortable with it when they can't tell the difference between booing Max and booing the Governor of Texas.
It was during the national anthem.
They were booing during the interview, they were booing when Max walked onto the podium, they were chanting "checo" during the Dutch anthem. Why are y'all trying to find excuses for Mexican fans lol
Odds on Team LH being calm and respectful on Twitter? 😅
Give it a minute... They blow up in time.
Negative
well it is weird they only picked 4 cars to check and then when 50% weren't compliable, they didnt check anymore... also when max impedes someone in quali, fia just says they messed up but when lewis and charles do that, they get grid penalties
@@rodsitamara no cars had their floors checked following the Japanese GP, one was looked at after the Qatar sprint race and three cars assessed in the immediate aftermath of the full-length Qatar GP.
People are already rightfully pissed that it took multiple hours for the decision to be made, imagine if they would indeed go through all 20 cars, then talked to the teams, etc. Final classification would be done maybe by Tuesday 😆
"50 races... those are rookie numbers next to Lewis here." - Max
Max forgot that when Lewis had the age Max has today he had won 17 races.
Thanks for staying up all night to get this uploaded
Really appreciate
Plan Z: ZZZZZZ...
Plan Y: WHY ARE WE LOSING AGAIN!?
Plan X: Cross it off...
Plan W: Wonder when we win...
Fail-arri begins plan from Z to A.😂🎉
Plan D(SQ) 😊
I bet Gasly told the FIA about the floor😱
@@FrankEPottsno need, the top 6 cars are always inspected after the race.
I think Russel's car had a higher setup, seeing the results. Bet he doesn't like fireworks like Lewis does.
5:32 I mean this is what Alonso is dealing with somewhat with the newer fans looking at his stats on wikipedia
Exactly
He didn't made a single podium or pole win in 2022 but oh boy the driving and racing impressed me.
Just saw the short and well........... Just have a hug Matt, have some hugs.
I cannot believe I was bang on with my prediction on your post the other day. I said Logan would get his first points and be within two positions of Alex. I honestly didn’t even think it would happen
The boos may have been for Max, but I actually think it may have been for the Governor presenting the trophy?
They booed in the interview as well as the podium so seems unlikely
Yeah, same thing happened in 2019 when I went, the crowd was booing Rick Perry, also a governor of Texas. Bottas won that race, I can't imagine anyone booing him
What is up with that governor?
@@Firemarioflower he’s a far right conservative governor and Austin is a more progressive city.
@@Firemarioflower He's been doing some of the worst things Republicans have been doing in the US, including abortion bans, trafficking migrants all over the country, trying to overturn the election, banning trans health care, etc. On top of that, he was the governor when Texas's electric grid failed during a winter storm. Meanwhile, Austin is a left-leaning area, and not exactly a fan of any of that.
The jinx backfired on Matt
Logans 1st point
Might be his last in F1 😅
And he barely deserves it haha
@@manager4286 More like, not at all
As the late great Dale Earnhardt Sr said, whether they are booing or cheering for you, they are still making noise for you.
Esteban having so much bad luck that Gasly is in front of him ... Its like all the bad luck for Esteban becomes good luck for Pierre
I’ve never been so invested in the FIA website after first hearing about this

@@allesaufanfang-sarah after being there at COTA today I’m so happy they didn’t find that out until way after
TV direction: I kept looking for more about Ocon, but eventually gave up.
You know the 3 US GP thing is really only viable because of how spread out and large the US actually is. The continental US is larger than Europe (with the UK) and it would very much be like asking a person from London, to have to go to a race in Germany and that be the only race they get. Having 3 races spread across 3000 miles isn't really that odd.
but it's still 1 county and therefore one culture (ofc there's more to it but still)
three Canada races wouldn't be too exciting as well
@@allesaufanfang-sarah It is most definitely not one culture!
@@allesaufanfang-sarahyyyyeeeaaahhh… there is definitely not a mono culture in the US… Texans are way different than New Yorkers, and Floridians, etc
I'm not against 3 races in the US because it's so big, but name 3 good tracks for F1 in the US. Parking lots aren't tracks.
Sargeant finally got his first point! LETS GO!
I'm always a Norris fan first, which my heart has broken this race. But I'm starting to be a Max fan, he really is very impressive. Just an absolute robot.
100 races deep I empathise
Glory hunter
Hypetrainer..... at least you got third, which became second and was better than McLaren predicted. Try being a Charles fan...... lil whinebag.
Remember that EARLY episode of The Simpsons where the power plant baseball team is playing an Homer is up to bat? Ferrari strategy reminds me of Mr Burns giving hand/body signals to Homer while he's up to bat and he ends up getting knocked out by the pitcher's ball since he's trying to decipher just what the hell Mr Burns is trying to say.
I assumed the booing was for Greg Abbott as much as Max. Austin doesn’t Abbott.
It was mostly Checo fans booing Max. There was a billion of them
And more coming across the Texas border every day.
@@panzerschreck3726well somebody's got to clean up after the former President
Sainz gains another podium through disqualification 😂
McLaren apparently went to the Ferrari School of Strategy. Why tf did they do that to Lando??
Also, corner cutting should obviously be penalized. But if there's a runoff available coming out of a corner, they should be allowed to use it. Otherwise, put grass, gravel, or a wall in those areas
I'd say they pulled a half-ferrari. Tried to go for a one-stop, a ferrari strategy move, then realised it wouldn't work and just scrapped it for a two-stop, so they didn't quite go full scuderia.
They have been screwing strategies for a long time, pre DR
On TV direction, COTA has great braking zones but I feel like none of them are documented well enough. That Birds Eye view of the corner at the end of the back straight is great, but too many times they are level with the cars and see them get to the corner, then it awkwardly cuts to the next corner and you never see the overtake develop.
was Merc pit crew asleep today?
For Ferrari strategy, I'm pretty sure I heard "Sierra" mentioned on the radio. That means PLAN S???!!!
Gutted by Hamilton disqualified bt logan getting his first points
You could see it on Guenther’s face when Lawrence asked him if they could score from pit lane. He’s like ‘This fokking guy…’
The boos were for the Texas governor, who handed the trophy to Max . I was there under the podium , it was definitely for the governor.
It was definitely directed towards Max. Maybe for the other guy too, but mainly for Max.
Really? Did he hand the trophy to Max during the dutch anthem or his post race interview?
When Max Qualified 6th i never even considered him finishing in any other postion than first. Just literately didnt even cross my mind that he wouldnt win... What a legend 😁
17:22 Was it bad luck? Didn't Ocon just drive into the side to Piastri?
Looked like a racing incident to me and the F1 presenters I watched.
@@Lillith. Didn't say it wasn't a racing incident, but Oscar was driving in a straight line at the edge of the track and Ocon misjudged and crashed into him--essentially 100% Ocon's fault/mistake so not really bad luck.
