John’s pocket tools for his evening walks: small cutters, needle nose pliers, linesman pliers, 16 oz hammer, dead-blow hammer, hydraulic jack, bolt cutters, cable cutters, small cordless chain saw, floodlight, industrial cart, and three pair of gloves. Does that qualify as an EDC kit? 😂

That Stanley interchange was a neat tool. I worked on the 1984 Olympic metals and have a picture of a much younger me sitting next to a gold metal. I have another taken a my work bench the same day I was filmed by a Chicago TV station working. Those old school class trips were certainly different than today. I think it was my eith grade trip, I bought my brother in law a big cigar. He said it tasted like burning rags, but can you imagine buying a cigar today and hauling it home on a bus. 🤣🤣

That lamp was one that would have been used in a hotel room. Probably came from a place that sells old hotel stuff. Maybe the "O" shape of the lamp meant something, like an initial? The halogen bulb didn't need that glass globe except for the shape of it being like a regular bulb where you need that shape for some reason. Like the LEDs now. We used little halogen bulbs in stage and movie lights, back before I retired from the film industry. Don't know if they still use them so much now, but man were they HOT!

Challenge accepted Scout, I think I have an even rarer set of Stanley screwdrivers. It’s taken me a few years but I only have one screwdriver left to find to complete the set. They are a roller ratcheting screwdriver invented, patented, and sold only in Australia by Stanley Australia and were only on the market for a few years in the early 70’s. Also they were only sold individually never as a set. I’ve got a video coming.
I think that set you got from Big Vic is amazing and you did a perfect job of restoring them. I love that blue. It always makes me wonder why manufacturers drop certain models from their line up.
I’m sorry to hear about your aunt passing away. One of the downsides of getting older is seeing our elders pass away until one day we realise we’re now the elder. Cheers mate, Stuart 🇦🇺

Great video 👍 That Poor Man’s
Flea Market is Gold 🟡! That cord was pretty thick on that Lamp 💡. That was a awesome picture of a night view of NYC , I thought you would have brought that home 🏡 and hung it up on the wall 🖼. That look like a nice looking serger machine. The show & tell stuff was awesome👍. That Standard Oil truck 🛻 looked really cool. I like Sam The Olympic Eagle 🇺🇸 🦅 , he is awesome! I remember getting one of those big pencil ✏️ on a field trip when we went to Colonial Williamsburg. It would be pretty cool to see that Lock 🔒 you had on the table beside those screwdrivers getting a good clean up👍. You did a fantastic job restoring those Stanley -Yankee
screwdrivers 🪛 👍👍. That was great information on how to clean your grinder wheel with the eraser stick, so you may get a little more out of the wheel 👍. I like that idea and it doesn’t cost that much to purchase one, thanks for sharing that one . The tips of those screwdrivers 🪛 turned out great. You made it look easy. I like how you polished those beautiful wooden 🔵 blue handles , to me they look like you bought them at the hardware store yesterday, awesome job!👍👍Great shot of Old Glory 🇺🇸 flying in the breeze. Well again great video and can’t wait to see what you do on Monday. Have a Fantastic weekend. 😄👍👍

SC, I'm a screwdriver hound! My absolute best quality is a full set of Brownell's hollow ground screwdrivers built by Apex in the USA (26 piece set I believe). IMHO they are better than anything else on the market regardless of price! My second best set is very similar to what you just restored. It is a Yankee #90 set with the black handles (from the 1950's I believe). I think I have 7 or 8 different sizes. The blades are all in great tip-top shape but most of the black paint is somewhat worn. The third best I own is a set of Snap-on (decent, but over rated and over priced), then a set of Craftsman USA made, then a set of Vaco and Channelocks. I also have a few other sets from various manufacturers that I keep in the cars for an on the road emergency repair. The Yankee #90 set blows away the Snap-on's but again, the Brownell's hollow ground set blows them all away! While in general I do like Klein Tools, I do not think their screwdrivers are worth buying. I never cared for the rubber slip on handles and the steel they use for their blades is ehhh. I also have a miniature set of Wiha and they are also good, but IMHO not worth the price they sell for. My go-to set are the Brownells and Yankee with the Snap-on set being used less and less. The misc. off brands are what I use to grind into specialty tools, awls, and scrapers.

Always enjoy the Poor mans flea market, can't quite believe what people put out, but I guess that says as much about me !
Great bundle of stuff from Big Vic, I know exactly what you mean about the lathe, it draws you in, I have three "children" now left home and having used mine all say that as soon as they have the room they will get a lathe.
We are now hovering either side of zero degrees (c) here but coincidentally I had the opportunity before the cold snap to work on my ex-Brotheer-in-laws vintage metalworking lathe and have renovated and put large industrial castors on it's stand ready to re-install it and get it powered up in my workshop !
Those screwdrivers are great, what a great system that is, simple but effective !

Back about 45 years ago I was working at my friends wrecking yard / scrap metal yard when we got a call a couple miles up the road from us. The call was from a medical supply company. They said they had about 3 dozen used wheel chairs they wanted hauled off. We went up the road to get them and I noticed a lot of them were in good condition. I asked a employee who was out behind the building why they were throwing them away. I said a lot of these could be sold to people who really need them. The employee told me, why should we sell these when we can sell people new ones for a lot more money. I thought to myself a lot of people cannot afford a new one and these could be donated to needy persons. I guess greedy outweighs needy.

The "finger print on the halogen bulb" issue is this: if you touch with bare fingers/hands, you may deposit some skin oils onto the quartz glass. The high heat of these bulbs is the issue - any oil on the surface of the quartz glass will lead to "hot spots" or uneven heating because the glass with oil will dissipate the heat less efficiently into the air. If the hot spots are sufficient, the quartz glass fails (cracks, breaks, etc). So if you touch the bulb, just carefully clean it before turning it on. I use IPA (isopropyl alcohol) to wipe it carefully.

    • @patjohnson3100
      @patjohnson3100 Год назад

Good advice. Yes, use IPA and a soft clean cloth when handling these halogen bulbs. Very important when replacing headlight bulbs if you want a reasonable life out of these expensive bulbs.

The interchangeable tips on the Stanley is a unique design for sure. Some Engineer at Stanley thought about that for awhile before moving it to product development and sales. I’d buy a set right now if they were still available. The PMFM never fails to entertain, one could do all their Christmas shopping for the price of a little exercise!

I have a few NOS Millers Falls screwdrivers which are IDENTICAL to the Stanley's you are showing, Scout. It seems either Stanley made them for Millers Falls or vice versa. It's almost Christmas, so, I guess I'll follow your lead and do what my spine surgeon ordered . . . take a walk.
