"SADA" luv it. My favorite car is the 59 Chevy Bel Air with "Cats eye" tail lights, I would buy one in a New York minute. Now I know wats in my old Weller. Thanks
I've fallen for those car video's as well. My grandchildren tell me they are called "Click Bait". Great tutorials on that old switch and soldering gun. Your tutorials are nothing but excellent. I do learn so much from watching. "Smokes going up my nose like is 'sposed ta". 😆 I do believe there are a couple private car builders who are reproducing older trucks. Some have modern drive trains and safety systems. I think one of those companies does first generation Bronco's. As you might think, they are quite expensive. Excellent show! Have a great weekend!

Nice show S.C. .. I opened up my box the other day and that lovely scent of those screwdriver handles.. I thought about those towels that you've been using and I definitely need some to clean up my other tools... I was wondering where you got those and the price... Thx for repairing that soldering gun... I love that model... Well S.C. have a good weekend I'll see you Monday...
You always make such cool and funny videos! You had me going with the new Chevy 2025-that car looked amazing-what kind of maniac wouldn’t want one of those!? Alas, we know better.
I just got a leather sheath on Etsy for my Stanley didn’t know until I got it yesterday that they gave me another Stanley 199 so now I own 2 Stanley 199 my favorite utility knife
The repairs were great to watch and learn from. This is very good information. As far as the cars are concerned it would be great to see them painted in the two tone colors of the 1950's and 60's to break up the monotony of the designs. Thanks for sharing this and I am looking forward to the next tutorial.
Awesome! I just got a solder gun cheap so I can wire up some buzz coils for the hit & miss engines I just got. Keep these videos coming! I really enjoy them!
The tri-fives were the coolest Chevys and like you, if they were to remake those I'd be on the waiting list to get one! Great show and love the fix-it Friday theme!
The old Weller soldering guns had a bakelite housing and broke very easy if dropped. Our local electronics store sold replacement housings. You could buy a whole housing or half of one. I bought my first Weller new in 1976 at K-Mart in California. I use to work rewiring old cars and trucks alot so I went and bought a second one as a backup. It is still new in the package. Back then they cost $26.00 plus tax. I have since bought several more used ones.
I love the old soldering guns, the hum & vibration of the transformer instantly takes me back to being a kid. I have a Weller kit from the 80s that was my Brother's and an older Wen that was my Dad's, he gave it to me when I was a kid and he got a new kit. That Wen might go back to the 50s when he was a kid still living on the farm.
I have my Dad's Weller solder gun that looks just like this one. It even comes with a medal case. Today you are happy just to get a plastic (breakable) case.
The new / old Chevy also had me excited! The switch clean up also great! I have used a big old soldering many times. I have the one purchased in my youth and a couple picked up cheap at garage sales. To date all work and only cleared tip connect. It was educational (fantastic) to see inside and how they work! Once again great show!
You went past the call of duty on the antique switch. You are right they built it to last a lifetime or two. With the soldering gun what you did is what I do. It is usually something very simple. Most would throw it away. Now the old Chevy, if you want a dependable car you rebuild one with newer parts. My cars in the past were very desirable and dependable. My last one was a 1974 Chevy short bed that I drove to 525 thousand miles. When I sold it ( my wife made me) I got half of my money back. The good old days.
Jess- There’s a company who only refurbishes old Bronco’s with state of the art new equipment. The trucks run about 80k I believe. Really nice though. 😃👍
The current Ford Bronco was supposedly designed to echo the lines of the original. What I like about it is that it’s one of the few US made vehicles available with a manual transmission.
Good fix on the ray run soldering iron. A lot of those have two settings. When you pull the switch in it's two positions. Full blast is a half pull as I can recall. But that looks like a single power one.
@@ScoutCrafter the one's I've run into are backwards to how you'd think it'd be. The partial pull was full power and the full pull was partial power. But I guess it kinda makes sense using it. Once it's heated up you can pull it all the way in and not worry about changing power.
My father gave me the same model Weller soldering gun probably 50 years ago. I still have that and it works great. I also have a later model D550 that I currently use whenever I need to solder some wires. It shows to be 240/325 watt. It makes quick work of it.
TGIF. Check out the new bronco heritage models... I break my neck everytime I see on thinking it's an older model... that said.. I love my 23 wildtrak... the old ones wish they were the newer models with all their capabilities 😂😂 good week! Appreciate ya!

Hello John, great video as always. My gut instinct is that the insulating material they put on the switch connections is some sort of pitch-based substance. It reminds me of the stuff used in pitch bowls. I share a similar disinterest in modern cars. I only wish I was around to see the old ones you so fondly remember.

At the beginning of your video, I thought you may have triggered a few viewers again.😬 I'm glad that didn't happen. I've got to try that on a few of my Weller "sader" guns. Over the years, they lost their heating abilities. Nice video 😀👍🏻🇺🇲
For whatever reason today automobiles have no soul, the car an average person can afford to buy, insure, and drive is virtually lifeless. No spark, pitiless acceleration, and an instrument panel undecipherable. I drove rental cars for work the last five years before retiring, at least 60 different makes and models. Memorable are a twin turbo 2.0 litre BMW that was absolutely a rocket and a couple of Dodge Chargers that were simply marvelous! Great info for the Weller, I’ve got several that were freebies and I’ll be checking them out thanks to your tips. Flag videos always super….
Mitch- This Weller gun is for heavy work and not suitable for circuit board work- Almost everyone who does that kind of work today uses a variable soldering station like the Weller www.amazon.com/Weller-Digital-Soldering-Station-Precision/dp/B09XZBWJ5H/ref=mp_s_a_1_16_sspa?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.5yt3C0WfzElhzBIfDVpauaxjx3KAqCcV9BakUj8QC5gortMcmMklnjt3bngAIONCYIiaSySfkJku2hp0v5xyTP7aiyDtp36-4XUwMHX-RrQU-oiHwTkOMSZCKj4zreXTYECOXKvaNUs6SCecvPWR7o651ZhoXvXbg09_wniMO583tkyIwrFpFyrgcItRV9QZngJdlJ1tDXn2FL6niLLJIw.nMDeBMWgJn8GfGsJXS22gAwVt-lcUmNhtREpyVekuZk&dib_tag=se&keywords=soldering+station&qid=1731717664&sr=8-16-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRmX25leHQ&psc=1#aw-udpv3-customer-reviews_feature_div
Hi Mark- That’s a good question- Years ago switch ratings were very conservative and this switch is a perfect example- The contacts are much more substantial then today’s switches that are rated for 15 amps! That being said this switch would be fine as a light switch because a 100 watt bulb only draws .83 of an amp so even if they had five 100 watt bulbs in a lamp fixture it would only draw 4.17 amps. 😃👍
The new cars don't have a good reputation. Many don't last 60,000 miles anymore and there are a lot of complaints that the manufacturers are not honoring their warauntees. You are better off taking good care of your car and getting 20+ years out of it. BTW cars from the 50s and 60s usually needed a ring job by 80,000 miles. I have a couple of those Wellers. Thanks for showing how to fix. Another nice video. Good Luck, Rick
Thank u for great videoes. I have two question . 1 how to distingush between mirror finish and chrome plating. 2 my old adjustable wrench logo and letters are raised and embossed new one are engraved . Why? Any difference in process of forging and quality.. like Crescent jamestown wrench vs newer cooper or apex crescent which are engraved .. old irega are embossed newer are engraved
If ferrous metal doesn't have some kind of a protective coating on it it'll oxidize pretty rapidly. It'll tarnish and rust. That's why we chrome plate stuff. To protect it. But how shiny chrome looks depends on how buffed out whatever is getting plated got. Really shiny chrome is called triple chrome. That's because there's 3 layers plated. There's copper, nickel and chrome. The copper layer gets buffed to a mirror polish. You can see the copper sometimes on worn chrome. Chrome is durable but it can wear out. Sometimes stuff is just nickel plated. They skip the chrome. They can skip the copper too. I guess they could just copper plate stuff too? The Chinese are doing that to wire now. They're copper plating steel wire. For a while they were copper plating aluminum. People got wise to that though. Plus steel is even cheaper. Copper plated steel wire is attracted to a magnet. But I digress.
Almost all the newer wrenches are chrome plated. Only antique wrenches were plated differently. The raised lettering was a little harder to produce so it was replaced by stamping and now engraving. Cheap wrenches are identified with ink or a label. 🫣😂👍
Yes- Contact cleaner is great when you can’t get access to or tight spaces like inside potentiometers, if the contacts are corroded only a physical wipe will clean them- like Emery cloth on ignition points. 😂👍
Seb- The new Bronco looks awesome from the outside but it’s packed with options that make it almost unaffordable to most. I was a little ticked at Ford after the COVID fiasco when they took orders on their vehicles and when the vehicles finally came in months later they wanted a totally different price because of supply and demand- Thousands over sticker. That really bothered me. 😃👍
I agree about most new cars, all look the same and cost a fortune and won't last 100k miles. I've been into GTOs and muscle cars since I was a kid but one exception is the modern Dodge Challenger that just went out of production. Before Stellantis bought Dodge these cars were designed and built by car people. I bought a used 2012 Challenger SRT, 392 Hemi, 6 speed and my face hurts from smiling when I drive it. Black with silver stripes the car is mean..I like the looks of the new Vette as well but otherwise it's all white and silver jellybeans..great episode you gave that switch some serious love
The Tube Guru and I have asked for years, why not? All we want from a car is for it to get us predictably from point A to point B; no power windows, no automatic, no do-dads of any kind. And, why can't we have that? I know, I know, if we go to Pakistan they'll build an exact copy of a '64 Ford Econoline, while we waited (all from recycled 55 gal. oil drums ). One of my all time favorite vehicles was an '80 Chevy "Farm PickUp". No carpeting, rubber floor mats, six, 3-on-a-tree. It was MINT when I sold it. Figured I'd get anther one sometime. What an idiot I was.
@@ScoutCrafter - John, I drove VW Vanagon vans for a few years. They requiired a lot of attention, especially the 4WD Syncro flavor. The last time I was in touch with that world, some guy in LA (it's always California, isn't it?) was having much success with stuffing Tesla go parts into VW Dokas (crew cab versions of Vanagons). I am too old to see the day when you'll take your favorite car in to have an electric chassis installed, but you're not.
The car had me going for a minute until I saw some of the pics closer and could spot the mistakes AI image generators make 💀💀💀 that’s messed up, these engagement farmers just out working hard on the dead internet 😭 thanks for your videos though, I’ve been watching a lot of your ones of electric motors bc I have one to clean up myself! At least the internet is still good for things like this!
The immediate giveaway on the fake Chevy videos is there's none of the mandated safety equipment (seat belts, airbags, etc). You notice it as soon as you see a shot of the interior.
The funny thing is for the first few minutes I was excited and elated until reality kicked in and I realized I was watching three card Monty all over again. 🫣😂👍
London Bridge is in Arizona today. They put it in the middle of the desert. They did build a body of water for it though. Some developer bought it and shipped it over block by block. It's on the Internet. Go check it out. It's called London Bridge (Lake Havasu City)
@@1pcfred “If you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you” is a phrase people throw around as an artful way of calling someone gullible. It comes from the exploits of an American conman, George C. Parker, who in the early 1900s, made a tidy living ‘selling’ landmarks to New Yorker's.
@@rustyblade5845 sometimes the offer is legit. I think London Bridge sold for one pound? The buyer was responsible for removing it though. I'm sure doing that cost a pretty penny too.
My question to you is, When doesn't 50/50 AKA VICTORY NOT work??? You show me an item that 50/50 doesn't work on, and I will call BS on your abilities!
I got a 50s Weller soldering gun in a Bell garbage bin a couple years ago. It was plopped in top with an old 80s Delco cassette radio. Took em both. Good stuff. The same model number guns but made after the 80s seem like they took a shit in quality I can't quite figure out. The old ones are like bake light and the newer ones are like crappier plastic. Doesn't get as hot as the 50s one. Bought a newer one at a thrift store and a/b'd them. Yeah there is a difference. The new one might be made in china and if that's true, that explains everything.
I have an old Weller in the metal box. It still works. I should do a little maintenance before I use it again. Thanks for the tip. Great show thank you. Ford is bringing back the Grand Torino it looks pretty good

My GF drives a Subaru and after two years she still has no idea what half the buttons do. 😂😂😂. I just want simplicity.
I'm looking for a moderately priced soldering gun that I can use for minor electrical work and that can be used on circuit boards as well.
Mitch- This Weller gun is for heavy work and not suitable for circuit board work- Almost everyone who does that kind of work today uses a variable soldering station like the Weller www.amazon.com/Weller-Digital-Soldering-Station-Precision/dp/B09XZBWJ5H/ref=mp_s_a_1_16_sspa?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.5yt3C0WfzElhzBIfDVpauaxjx3KAqCcV9BakUj8QC5gortMcmMklnjt3bngAIONCYIiaSySfkJku2hp0v5xyTP7aiyDtp36-4XUwMHX-RrQU-oiHwTkOMSZCKj4zreXTYECOXKvaNUs6SCecvPWR7o651ZhoXvXbg09_wniMO583tkyIwrFpFyrgcItRV9QZngJdlJ1tDXn2FL6niLLJIw.nMDeBMWgJn8GfGsJXS22gAwVt-lcUmNhtREpyVekuZk&dib_tag=se&keywords=soldering+station&qid=1731717664&sr=8-16-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRmX25leHQ&psc=1#aw-udpv3-customer-reviews_feature_div
I saw a promo for a 2024 Malibu in January. However the base price was $117,000.00! If this was a real deal, it is way out of my price range!!!
That’s about 4 times my budget. 🫣😂👍
John, where would that switch have been used? Just curious.
How does one send you stuff? I have a really interesting saw for you to restore. Jim Wilson Corinth Texas
Jim- My email is bicycleguy@aol.com
The new cars don't have a good reputation. Many don't last 60,000 miles anymore and there are a lot of complaints that the manufacturers are not honoring their warauntees. You are better off taking good care of your car and getting 20+ years out of it. BTW cars from the 50s and 60s usually needed a ring job by 80,000 miles. I have a couple of those Wellers. Thanks for showing how to fix. Another nice video. Good Luck, Rick
It’s true Rick!
If the new Belair was real they would sell like hot cakes.
No, more like twelve year old prostitute boys in a foreign brothel
Mr. J
We were duped, So damn sad.
😂😂😂. I was so excited too! Maybe GM will get the hint and make one! 😃👍. Thanks!!!
Thank u for great videoes. I have two question . 1 how to distingush between mirror finish and chrome plating. 2 my old adjustable wrench logo and letters are raised and embossed new one are engraved . Why? Any difference in process of forging and quality.. like
Crescent jamestown wrench vs newer cooper or apex crescent which are engraved .. old irega are embossed newer are engraved
@@ScoutCrafter I hate laser engraving. Might as well put a sticker on it. Etching sucks too.
@@1pcfredthanks a lot 🎉🎉🎉🎉

66 Bronco? Your Toyota, is a modern close 'Second'. Ford tried, but an electric bronco just ain't the same.
I’m not ready for an electric vehicle- Unless I lived in a Florida Senior community, then the electric golf cart is king! 😂👍
Hi John hope your well. Do they have contact cleaner over your side of the pond. Would have saved you half a day. Stay safe regards Scott
Yes- Contact cleaner is great when you can’t get access to or tight spaces like inside potentiometers, if the contacts are corroded only a physical wipe will clean them- like Emery cloth on ignition points. 😂👍
Hwy, John, the new retro Bronco has stayed true to form better than any other "retro bring back" model to date. What do you think of the new Bronco?
The SRT Hellcats have 807 HP! Insane! 😂👍
I think if they had a newer reliable and proven drivetrain there’s no reason why they couldn’t do it other than MPG requirements. 😂👍
Pakistani Truck!
Hi John, checkout the New 2025 Caterpillar pickup truck. 😁
I have seen those photos and whoever dreamed up that pickup had interesting ideas. However another internet attempt at deception. 😂😂👍
@@ScoutCrafter John here is a real car, that I have seen at a car show. Chevy 789 by N2K," None two alike" Be ready $$$ 😃
Good show fix it Friday ! I hope Donald TRUMP our president is able to fix our country! I am so happy he won!
I can see you driving in a new Tesla pickup truck LOLOLOLOL
I’ll be the last guy driving an electric car! Unless I move to Florida and get a golf cart!!! 😃👍
Stick with your Toyota… it’s already a classic… bright yellow and blue are the most prized FJs
I love that truck and would buy it again in a minute they just don’t make it anymore. 😃👍
I know.. I was with Toyota for 20 years.. retired this past week..
Are A Gone? lol
Orey Gun
Sorry Scout crafter, I couldn't help myself 😁
😂😂😂
If you want to buy a really cool vintage truck, get a 1950's Dodge Power Wagon through "Legacy Classic Trucks".
I love old power wagons! Legacy makes beautiful vehicles but way out of my petty budget. 🫣😂👍
🇺🇲👍
The immediate giveaway on the fake Chevy videos is there's none of the mandated safety equipment (seat belts, airbags, etc). You notice it as soon as you see a shot of the interior.
The funny thing is for the first few minutes I was excited and elated until reality kicked in and I realized I was watching three card Monty all over again. 🫣😂👍
Haha 😂😆 I know someone who's selling London Bridge if you're interested..
I’m was so excited!
Another enjoyable video. Thanks and good work.
Bought a newer one at a thrift store and
a/b'd them. Yeah there is a difference.
The new one might be made in china and if that's true, that explains everything.
The Bakelite was more brittle but felt so much better in the hand- You’re right, totally different animal but they still sell them today! 😃👍
