    I have seen discourse about this game in both Genshin forums and Wuthering Waves forums, and the Genshin killer claims are just as stupid as the Genshin clone claims. Wuthering Waves is a game that's clearly trying to appeal to players who like more challenging combat, with mechanics that are either exclusive to it or done differently than Genshin, and too much effort was put into it in order to just be a clone (like rewriting 90% of the story between the closed beta tests). I don't understand how people can look at footage like this video shows and still concluded that it's just a reskinned Genshin.

    • @lunaredelvour2972
      @lunaredelvour2972 10 месяцев назад +1

      I think it's because the people saying it's a Genshin clone are looking at it on a surface level. Even I must admit, when I saw footage of someone playing it, I genuinely did a double take because of how similar it looks to Genshin. I even thought it was being done under the same company. Visually, it looks like a Genshin reskin and/oor clone and that's kinda hard to deny when we can...you know. *See* it.
      That's not to say I still think it's a Genshin clone. I'm excited to try it out when I get the chance and I think it'll be a different enough game to be worth the experience. But visually? The two are really similar, and people who don't take a closer look are gonna be assuming that what they see on the surface is what they're getting....hence, the claims of Genshin clone. I think it's a similar train of thought for the Genshin killer claims. They're assuming it's Genshin but better because of the appearance and not because they looked into the game any further to see the differences.
      Just my two cents on the matter, though, I could be WAY off lmao

We have the joystick, the dodge, the basic atk, the orbs pings, the ultimate, the CUBS, the lock-on (if manual), the QTEs and so on. I appreciate that you tried to give a review of this game on its own merits and flaws, way too many people are relying on clickbait titles and antagonizing both playerbases which is not going to help anyone. The combat for this game looks intriguing and the AOE loot feature sounds very convenient. I love the souls games so having bosses you have to learn and adjust to is appealing. I'm a little concerned that the character design is bland and the world seems relatively barren (I'm fine with the duller color scheme) but its still a CBT so maybe they will improve on this before release. It's a little weird to me that liking exploration is associated with being a casual. The complete story overhaul is also a little concerning but I'll withhold judgement until I see it myself.

      I doubt that'll happen. From what I've picked apart from other Genshin players over the past month or so is that if it were up to the majority players, the combat aspects just wouldn't be a thing (because gods forbid someone doesn't want exposition bukkaked all over their face with each cutscene, but I digress).
      This game will probably be competing more with HI3rd or PGR, especially since I'm getting a lot of DMC vibes from the footage I've seen. Hell, do you know how many of Geshin's combat events were adjusted to be on the easier end? I would bet money the folks who end up migrating from Genshin to WuWa would barely even be on Hoyo's radar (it sure as shit didn't seem to matter when a sizable chunk of players - _CHINESE_ players, mind - unsubbed from their social accounts).

    I really do hope they (WuWa/Kuro) can differentiate themselves enough from their primary competition (Genshin/Hoyo) to serve as a healthy competitor. No need to kill anything, SERIOUSLY... They need to put some pressure on EACH OTHER to push the genre forward. Genshin's been a bit of a monolith for too long, it has had no reason to change up to this point. I hope WuWa can become that impetus for change and in doing so, serve BOTH communities, as well as the larger gacha community as a whole.

    I'm cautiously optimistic for this game but I'm willing to bet this game will not have a great long term future especially when compared to genshin purely because it seems to not cater towards casuals like genshin does. This is not a bad thing, there should be games the cater to that audience but you also shouldn't be surprised if it has a lower player count and lower player retention because there are way more casual players when compared to the hardcore. Both the combat and the grind seems to be harder. Add your concern of this game not being that mobile friendly and we have a recipe of this game ending up as a niche but successful game which is scarily similar to how PGR is doing. It'll definitely do better than PGR but I doubt it'll pull the numbers genshin does.

But if it's a single player game, I need a story that makes me want to play and I can't get interested just from their combat system if there is no immersive story.

WuWa focuses on people who want some challenging (but not overly difficult) combat, just like Reverse1999 focuses more on characters and world-building rooted in the real world. It's great if you can do all these things at the same time, but, honestly? Picking one and polishing it is already good. I've already said this but I am saying it again, WW's combat unfortunately does not exhilarate my brain enough over Genshin's. Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's bad by any means. I'm just saying that it's not that much more "fun" than Genshin, at least for me. One thing that does bother me a little is how underwhelming the story and voice work of this game. It's a complaint that I had ever since the tuning test and it's not really that much better. Unfortunate since I would imagine that's where a lot people's investments to a gacha game is.
    Now, the real saucy take. I hate talking about this because this topic is very subjective but here I am anyways... character design. WW's character design simply does not speak to me. I have no interest in them whatsoever. Ok, that's a lie. There were 2 or 3 characters that I was interested in, but really not by that much. At that time I will be tempted with spending more money to progress, and that is when I will know if I am going to stick with the game or not. If I find enough enjoyment playing the game even though I cant get past some harder content then I will probably stay and spend money. If the wall preventing me from progressing is ruining the game for me then I will move on.

For combat, I feel like pgr is extremely good, but you're a whole lot more limited to teambuilding and there's non-existent aerial combat in the game, something which ww alleviates completely by allowing non-mono elemental teams and the echo system, as well as the aerial movement and combo options in the game being really fluid. As for exploration, you don't have as much options as something like tof, but it's still really good and fluid. 12:45 That's the grain of truth to "Genshin killer" memes--any game heavily imitating Big G has to be not just equal to it, but significantly better, otherwise it will struggle. The vast majority of people interested in WuWa already have Genshin accounts, and convincing them to abandon the most popular game in the genre (or add another play-every-day to their schedule) is a tall order.
    From what I've seen, it looks like a better version of Tower of Fantasy, but not good or different enough to be major competition for Hoyo. The only noticeably unique thing I've seen is the artifacts working like summonable Pokemon; besides that, it just feels like Genshin with a darker tone (both literally and metaphorically) and various minor adjustments. A small percentage of people might switch to it--maybe because of harder combat, which we now have clear evidence is not what the vast majority wants--but I'm not sure it will be enough to sustain something with open-world-level development costs.

    im really excited for it, the combat looks really fun and with all the areas they teased in some of the trailers i am hoping the exploration will be equally as fun. My main worries are that they will not have enough unique enemies and will fall into the 'same enemy but a different type' trap or just repeat enemies in later areas. hopefully they manage to have enemies that are only in specific areas to help encourage exploration and to make exploring not feel like you are just sightseeing and collecting every chest you can find. My other worries are the story and gacha system. theres not too much to say about the gacha, i just hope they give us enough events and missions to get a sustainable income of pulls so that you can get a 5 star character every 2-3 banners or something like that (i might be delusional by star rails absurd amount of pulls). The story is something i hope is really good, they did say they completely redid it to make it better so im hoping they make it good and interesting, but i did notice they have a skip button for most dialogue and worse case i just play wuwa for the gameplay/combat and star rail for the story.

    Now that I’m a couple weeks into WuWa… it’s dead-ass a Genshin clone. Like, if Genshin is Street Fighter and Tower of Fantasy is Fatal Fury, WuWa is… Fighter’s History. Aesthetically it’s different but systematically it’s basically legally distinct Genshin mixed with Aria/Dawn of Sorrow’s soul system.
    Pretty much every system in Genshin gets a direct analog in ways that other gachas, even open world gachas, don’t do.
    I’m enjoying it so far and I love some of the character designs (Encore), but it’s very much a carefully constructed clone, systematically.

  • @alfredxsiv
    @alfredxsiv 10 месяцев назад +3

    From what i've seen so far, its more siimilar to ToF (tower of fantasy) in terms of gameplay, world theme, and some other aspects.
    - In ToF regular dodge is also a dash back while adding a direction, you will dash to that direction. Perfect dodging creates a "slow-mo" effect which is also present in ToF. (though is WW there's also blocking from what i've heard which is not present in ToF aside from skills from specific characters. genshin has specific character "blocking" too, candace, beidou, yunjin etc.)
    - guns and the futuristic world theme is also very prominent in ToF.
    - switching to do a special attack is also in ToF.
    - Gacha in ToF is also 80 for a guaranteed 5-star, but from my experience when i still played ToF 80 guaranteed doesn't actually translate to earlier 5-stars compared to genshin. In genshin you almost always get the 5-star at around 75-80 pulls. in ToF that's also almost the case, you only get a 5-star at the exact 80th pull. So unless WW has a soft pity system that's similar to genshin (that is at around 65-70 or 70-75 pulls you're chances to get the 5-star is significantly higher), it will be barely better than genshin. It is still "better" but not that much.
    WW for me is a more polished ToF, despite the majority saying ToF was bad. I actually still enjoyed playing it. I think people at the time just set ToF's bar too high and people really pushing it as the "genshin killer" instead of it being a competitor. When it came out with subpar quality "compared to genshin", the expectation that its the "genshin killer" made the game looked really bad, when in reality on its own it was actually a decent enough game especially since it has MMO aspect to it that genshin doesn't have (yes you can fight bosses in there with 15 or more people while also having solo content).
    I'm not saying WW is just a ToF clone, which people also called a Genshin clone, which people also called a Breath of the Wild clone. Comparing the games is just a way of saying there's a healthy competition in this game genre and i think that's good. By comparing and contrasting, we can make out the differences and similarities which can make the games in the genre a lot better if the voices of the players are heard.

  • @Unhappytimeaper
    @Unhappytimeaper 10 месяцев назад +1

    I find one of my biggest problem with WuWa is the fans already and to explain
    WuWa is very clearly trying to fill a niche and I think this is good. I honestly would rather see people leave communities like Genshin to go to WuWa for the content they are looking for rather than complain and whine that they simply don’t like Genshin. But Genshin haters and overall the hyper specific conversation of always bringing the topic back to genshin in comments or overall holds back on conversations as to how Kuro can improve *their games*. This isn’t to say in videos like this comparing and contrasting is an issue but I think overall people want so badly to only acknowledge WuWa’s benefits without talking about how certain goals in this niche can create problems for making this a sustainable game or wanting to acknowledge current pitfalls that might effect the game that are always better to consider in beta than later. I say this as because PGR I know is a good game but because the early game has so many problems people don’t like games that are “but it gets so good later.”
    I’m optimistic for parts of the game but I do wish current fans often were more focused on bringing in players with aspects like discussing the story and characters as well because I genuinely this part of the game which is just as important is neglected in conversations

    • @Unhappytimeaper
      @Unhappytimeaper 10 месяцев назад

      I’ll add to my own comment on some things I do consider WuWa needing to take into account that aren’t contingent on comparing to other games
      - my first one is the worry of open world eventually not being overly utilized. Unless the map is the map with no major plans to continue to update it the size is wild, and one thing I worry about is often many players tend to focus on speed running, exploring, and collecting which is what caused the open world to fall to the side and people ignore the exploring aspects. I hope they consider a way to make sure people have a motivation to keep exploring and wanting to explore more than just getting unlockables and fighting because even if that’s the focus it can eventually cut down on people’s interest for a lot of mechanics they are adding.
      More so than f2p being character collecting I do hope they can balance characters and not make it so meta has to be the only way people play. Currently f2p feels more like it means getting every character rather than the reality of making all characters usable without them growing obsolete, and while PGR has updated characters to the new meta gacha games are most fun when all unit can be played to how people want them. Since the game increases in difficulty it makes me worried the meta is going to overrun the game in a way that pushes players out
      Character designs. Personally I think while models have gotten better designs continue to move in a way that is taking away parts of personality in their looks which is causing many to feel very similar, and I’m hoping this isn’t a forever trend of what feels to me fanservice looks over keeping up with characters that can have unique styles. I don’t think you need of make overly complex looks and use too many colors to make characters feel fresh but since Kuro relies on skins to make a profit mostly it makes me worried even if accessible by grinding character designs are already being backed into corners rather than taking a chance to play with design. This also is personally because if your going for apocalypse vibes there are so many ways to add this in without just the same few colors and looks, and while it can stay muted in ideas there are aways still make character pop.
      My last biggest worry is going to be burnout management with similar concepts. While the game rewards grinding and building to end game I feel similar to the worry on currently open world construct I worry how all of this will work in regards to keeping long term retention
      I have worries for the story and stuff but that’s more so my own personal thoughts on the route it’s taken. I get since it has a skip feature majority of players might not even care tho

How is MHY the only game that makes the UI, the text on the screen and everything just not look out of place? The very first second you show in the video I see that ugly yellow text font under the quest name, and the quest name itself looks too big and ugly. Idk, the font really needs a change. Look at PGR, it looks good. They can do it. Come on. Make it looks good.

      The banner ui is atrocious. The beautiful art in the background is being killed by the font on the foreground.

    I'm so excited for it as I love combat especially when I tried PGR. Kuro can really do combat well! I can't wait for WW to come out cause I am burnt out from genshin, I just feel like there isn't much to do in it anymore even though I'm behind. It seems refreshing.

    i do not understand how "genshin "as it is in its state perfect for many people yet it is flawed and predatory and for any competition it has to surpass it , the thing is the standard that is hold by the game's community is not met even by their game itself.

    You barely talk about the things that need improvement. Yes the gameplay/the battle is fun but I disagree that the exploration is that good, it's just very generic, they need to improve on it. As the world so flat, they need to add mount. They need to improve on the character art(many of them look the same), story, music and overall feeling of the atmosphere. Accept for the action, everything else feels bland. They need to focus more on the action battles and make the story more simpler. So far the game feel more like an improve Tower of Fantasy rather than Genshin. That's good.
    Just make a simple story and stop with the bloated dialogue, fix the janky animation, add more music, add more voice dialogue, everything else can be improve with future updates. Hoping they can finish this and release soon preferably this year.

    I remember PGR's CBT back then had a lot of bad feedback. But look at PGR now, it has improved so well that it is always been given great feedbacks. I'm assuming it would also be the same case with WuWa.

    You've stated that the game has issues to resolve but from what I could tell, you didn't mention any issues in your video. You said the camera movement is a bit rough, the combat could be hard to pull off on mobile and the gacha could end up whale-ish. These BARELY constitute as issues. I think you're being a bit hyperbolic.
