man the review of #3 had me rolling, love you matt. What you said about mix^ being skill tight was soo fuckin true. Thank you for your insights on this list. It's funny because I was always a mix^ fanboy when i played and platinum was my inspiration. I remember watching the mge videos on skyrides channel learning rollouts for shit like coldfront. AHHH good times. So it's just so funny to see you, on the other end, and definitely more objectively, analyze the situation. It's hard man.. I think it'd be better if we did separate rankings from the 3 eras. It would make more sense that way.
putting arekk in top 14 is fucking crazy. He is such a blue collar player in the post-clockwork froyotech system. The recent froyo is basically yomps blaze arekk make space for b4nny and habib to absolutely decimate the enemy team. Even an X factor player, a mechanical god like yomps often gets frustrated with the role he has to play on froyo if you watched his streams. If anyone has watched enough arekk gameplay, he is probably the most mischievous player that has ever touched the game. He is so good at abusing communication mistakes from the enemy team, snuffing out key picks or countless back caps. Imagine if froyotech was the avengers, arekk would literally be Loki, but he could throw hands himself. Also, when its a koth map, holy shit, he unleashes the clockwork inside him. I remember one of the last ESEA seasons, the finals ended on product, dude dropped almost 500 dpm and a 40+ bomb (correct me if wrong, but i remember he absolutely carried); he also has numerous 50 frag game, together with a 6 dom game in a lot of their scrims. I think the more recent top 100 player list made by b4nny and the invite community was more accurate, considering it was actually top players who play the game giving the insights.
Well when arekk left, froyotech lost. I just think that arekk is one of those players that you need to analyze his gameplay rather than “wow he went 21 and 20 in that match and only has 200 dpm”. He still has good dm, but I think we both have the idea that arekk main strength is not his dm, it’s that he’s a very good tf2 player. Much rather than just a very good flank scout.
Ash/Carter should get credit for being the only reason froyo did not win every season between s16 and s31. No matter what else he's done that will always be his legacy in tf2 to me.
@@voxills4599 I know this is a late response lmao But basically he tilted hard and clashed with b4nny and the rest of the team in their final match, which lead to them losing it. Which caused the team to split, where b4nny then rebuilt it with new players (ninjanick, muma and 2 others I cant remember, along with clockwork being the only one staying from the original team before)
Thank you for this. Very interesting to hear the perspective of someone who actually played during this era of TF2 comp. I have been playing since 2012, but only just recently started following the comp scene. Do you think that the average players from 2012-2016 era (with their skill levels from that era) are still better than invite players today? Or is it just that there were more "top level" players during that time?
Mechanically everyone from today is better but that's only natural with more time put in + iterating on what was seen as good from the older eras. As time goes on you'll continue to find more and more talented players who are just as good as we were when we played back then (jayhyunpae, laz, marmaloo etc) but if all the top players from my time continued to play to this day we would still be very competitive. b4nny is a good litmus test for this considering he's always played and remains to be arguably the best player in the game just like he was back then
I remember watching the live stream of i46 and the Euro casters were all hyping up Epsilon and how schocky was the best scout in the game. Then Leviathan Gaming came in and 5-0'd Epsilon on Badlands with you absolutely dumping all over schocky and I was just laughing my ass off the whole time. I miss that era. Good times.
@@justanalias5642 antwa was the kiwi on the team wasn't he? nothing against him but snowblind was a huge upgrade as was termo replacing bulk. shame about the 4th place curse, just held back by the lack of competition in a small scene.

Rewatched this video today after not touching the game for a year. The fact platinum is number 3 still literally fries my brain. He wasn’t even the greatest player in that era and yet most of the other players close to him In skill at the time got ~20 on the list. literally every member of RGL s6 is better than plat and it’s not a comparison.
I was a huge platinum and mixup fan back in the day and even I know theres no way he's #3 or even top 5 imo. The longevity just isn't there compared to others.
What he doesn’t have in longevity he makes up for on impact and legacy you could probably ask anyone who played tf2 back in the day who had vague following of the community and they’d know who he was
5:45 omg i remember that season.. jesus christ watching that gully hold on last for nearly the entire match time (i think it might have even gone overtime i don't remember) was some of the stupidest shit lmao.
Are you talking about RGL? Because if so, b4nny didn't have Habib or Jay on his team? And Habib was actually on the other team. So I'm assuming you are talking about some other comp league.
If I didn't have so much time to burn these days I would've watched up to where Muma was ranked and called it a day because just off that alone I knew they didn't know shit about competitive TF2 when making this and I stopped really keeping up with comp TF2 before Muma started playing. Some good content btw, got me to spend a couple of hours hearing your thoughts on this list.
kinda sad meat market wasn't on here, bl4nk you must mike etc i loved those guys. Lots of 3/4th seed don't get enough credit having to go against disgusting mix^ stacks and b4nny teams
It's cool how I know about half if not most of these players despite never following the NA scene. Props to the international insomnia events and all the RUclips content creators back then.
Hi, from someone back in the earlllly days. Plat was damn good, and I think had some of the most hard fought lan wins of anyone. It is very difficult to put people who road B4nnys coattails ahead of a guy who essentially was B4nnys Kryptonite. But even then, he shouldn’t be 3, he didn’t win or play enough compared to some others. That is all.
@@petatersandgravye2n According to Google, British means “relating to Great Britain or the United Kingdom, or to its people or language.” The United Kingdom includes Wales, so I see nothing wrong with Damn Daniel’s statement. Just pointing that out.
About b4nny at 2:01:34 you can’t say he was the most dominating player since the beginning of tf2 when he started his tournament career super late compared to others. Carnage, reptile and enigma are guys you could use that statement with about being the best from the start of TF2 they just fell off and b4nny stuck with it.
