2 weeks ago, i bought, a stumpjumper with a NX. totally a lot more noise from the it on the downhills than my Carbine with the GX. problem due to all the play. i will be the putting the NX on my wife's bike. haha.
If you already have a NX and want to upgrade Use GX jockey wheels and an XX1 hanger bolt your NX will be shifting better than a GX and you only spending $50 for the upgrade
I've run NX for some time and never had problems with it, it's not as smooth a shift as an XT which I had on another bike but it does what it's supposed to do. I dunno why everyone treats it like the bad child of the eagle family, it does the dishes and cleans it's room, maybe doesn't get as good grades in school as the XX1 or as smart as the AXS... but it does the job...
I have the NX Eagle on ally my bikes and its even compatible to Shimano cassettes. It was able to shift into 51t but I haven't tried 52t. Also, my SX derailleur also works well.
I have X01 on my bike & older XT on another bike & I had heard so much bad stuff about the lower end SRAM, but I rented a bike at a park that had a mix of SX & NX components & I thought the shifting was just fine. No issues.
The mounting bolt is the main issue with nx , the play you showed init increases over time as will the gx but this happens quicker with nx due to the material used in the mounting bolt and bushings itself . The wobble will cause phantom shifting under load eventually , that's not to say until that starts happening the nx performs very well but it is a ticking time bomb .
I have a hybrid NX/GX on my bike (GX cassette, NX derailleur and crank, XO1 chain) and it works beautifully. The play in the cage can be almost completely removed by fitting the B bolt and plate from the XO1 or XX1. Plenty of vids on RUclips showing how to do it, and it costs around £40 for the kit.
i have a status with a nx drivetrain and it has needed a lot of attention with adjustment. i have a 2006 specialized p3 i don’t remember what sram system that runs but i’ve literally never made an adjustment since 2006 when i got it new and it still bangs into gears perfectly. i’m sure there is a big weight difference and the nx does it a little quieter but idk how far tech has really come
Just upgraded to the GX as my NX was toast after the Cape Epic. I've immediately noticed that the shifting is far crisper and it feels solid and precise. The chain was changed as well due to wear so that could only help. However, it does feel significantly better than the NX ever did.
i found the same play in an NX after a few hundred miles of use - wont be using them anymore. Great for an emergency or if you're on a tight budget though!
I just upgraded from NX to GX derailleur, but the bike came with an SX shifter. Do I need to upgrade the shifter too? It does not shift correctly between all gears. Adjusted the B gap but not with sag.
HI there. Would you say the extra tension on the Gx clutch will help with chain rattle on brake bumps and rutted sections. compared to the NX. P.S I have 52 cass and works on the NX
It would be better for chain slap and overall tension yes. Especially if your NX has had a lot of off-road use, as I am positive that the clutch can get weaker the longer it has to work. Sadly there is no way to adjust the clutch on these derailleurs to compensate. Being that the clutch assembly is the same on both the NX and GX, the GX may end up losing strength over time. I would say if you see a good deal come up on a GX, grab it and keep the NX as a spare.
Weight saving bullshit, but the NX is about 50x more durable! 😄 Shifting gears under load is common sense...... DON'T DO IT! I hear so many mountain bike riders smashing their gears when I'm out, makes me wince! And then they moan about replacing cassettes and chains prematurely! 😆 As for performance, my NX shifts as well as my Force! My Ultegra is a different story...😉

For the price and performance does it compete with the Deore and Slx or can it only compare with Deore?

i got a question 😅 Im thinking about changing from nx to gx but i have a nx casette but would the gx work with the nx casette!?
@@goodrift1714 yes it works. I haven't changed my cassette at all.
Did you change the shifter?

Great review!
im even happy with my SX rear mech...but ill look for NX on sale,

Are you still running the 52t cassette with the NX derailleur?
SX is made of plastic, NX is made of steel and plastic, GX is made of aluminum? GX is much tighter tolerances and less slop. GX is best bang for buck.

Nx is absolute rubbish.
It's OK until it breaks 🙂
