I feel like I'm taking a class when I watch your videos. You are teaching me to up my clothing game and in turn I'm passing this information on to my 18 year old daughter. So good . Thank you!
Footwear is where I struggle the most, mostly because I want to be comfortable all the time. I also struggle to find the right top layer in any given outfit. Please do a video on top layers! I love the short videos keep them coming. Thank you.❤
Excellent video!!! I'd like to see more videos where you show more or less the same outfit, but with different body types and their "tricks" to make it work. It would be great to see a video about e.g. bags, how to use vintage bags, how can you decide if a bag is really very outdated for your outfit etc. Also a video about shoulder pads.
Your presentation is so eloquently stated. While it may seem verbally technical, it all makes so much sense as you demonstrate the differences in proportions. This has been so helpful. Thank you, Alyssa.
Wow. This one is next level. I’ll need to take pics to SEE this on me. The visuals on you were amazing! As someone with short legs and a long torso, this was helpful.
FANTASTIC. That was so interesting. Thank you for focusing on proportion/visual weight. I'd love to hear more comments about that in the future. Color, value, shape, and line are easier for me, but proportion just seems harder, perhaps because I'm petite and there just isn't as much room to play! Thanks.
I never considered the structure as much but wow does it make a difference. I learn so much from you, I feel so lucky to be able to learn visually rather than from a book. Thank you for assisting people like myself who really have a hard time putting it all together.
Alyssa, I love this video. Actually, I love all of them. 😉 but I love how easy it is to adjust proportion., what works and what doesn’t. Have a great week!
Great video! The discussion on proportions is very interesting to me. Sometimes rules apply, and sometimes certain outfits defy rules so it's hard to nail down! I think one of the biggest struggles i have with proportions and balance is related to shoes. Which shoes work with which bottoms-- silhouette, length of bottom, skirt or pant, AND adding in socks to the mix (color, length etc). Would love if you decided to do some more content on that topic!
Thank you for this I am 5’3 and recently lost quite a bit of weight and I am both short waisted and I have short legs so proportions are often very tricky for me and I have been struggling with dressing my smaller frame. I have to be very aware of volume, sleekness, and how shoes affect my outfits so I don’t look swallowed up. Thank you for explaining why things worked and didn’t work, I see so many videos on what to avoid and very little information on what does work. Very helpful! 😊
The way you think about outfits is so smart and considered. Tbh I think this video was a little above my current level of fashion understanding-I felt like I wandered into the advanced class by mistake! Lol But I think I learned some things anyway
Hi Alyssa! Love you always! I know we're supposed to be focused on slow fashion, but we are also human beings with unique themes and stories and I feel like I've gotten to know you as a person a little over the years of watching your videos. You seem different since you came back from Europe. Not better or worse - just a little different! Would love to hear how your return to Canada has helped you evolve (as a human, and not necessarily as a slow fashion blogger :)
Wow! This was one of your most informative videos Alyssa! ( and there are many!). For me, the footwear dictates the outfit. I no longer wear heels and pointy shoes - at this point in my life I’m all about comfort! So this clearly limits my options and I’m more drawn to outfits that work with sneakers/boots/sandals.
@@stacyebrim9702 I think the pandemic lockdowns and WFH changed a lot about how we think of clothing. I discovered jogging pants! There are so many options out there to dress up or down. As long as they make them they will be a staple 😊.
Same! But also, I'm "older" (59) and my body is changing... I can't wear most shoes now (major foot discomfort), so it's really hard not to look a bit dowdy with sneakers on the daily. 😐 But comfort is everything for my feet, so am always looking for ways to upgrade the look. Alyssa's channel is great for that. 🤗
Since 2016 I slowly stop wearing heels and pointy toe shoes. Use it or lose it therefore I no longer can wear them now. I wear high end sneakers, espadrilles from Spain, ballet flats, leather Chelsea boots, skimpy leather sandals, and Chuck Taylor all year round. I went to a wedding last year wearing emerald green satin top and midi skirt with canvas sneakers in the same color. I wear chiffon spaghetti strap bias cut gown with ballet flats or sparkly Keds (I glued glitter to white Keds). Thin soled and pliant leather sandals go with all my summer dresses and linen separates. So far I haven’t missed wearing heels of any type or must be confined to only certain styles.
Loved this video!! I've been bingeing your content and have learned so much. Shopping my closet and putting together outfits has been such a blast. I'm not a follower of trends or fashion but I LOVE personal style. Much of my staple pieces have been in my wardrobe for many years. Thank you for all your great tips and inspiration. BTW, I'm in Ottawa and I love seeing shots of you in the city!! ❤️
I would absolutely love for you to make a video or some videos on how us expectant ladies can start to style ourselves when we have a growing bump. This would be super helpful! I have never felt worse than having to wear just what’s comfortable, and frumpy when I was pregnant with my first two. I understand that you would probably need to do a style session with someone who is pregnant, but this would be super helpful! I can no longer wear any high waisted clothing, so my body is now divided into halves, and I just feel so strange. Maybe it’s just something I’m going to have to accept for the time being! But I want to do my best to feel my best during this time.
Love this, thank you so much! Lots of helpful tips and listening to you breaking down your thought process always helps me develop a framwork for how to analyze my own wardrobe. In a future video, I'd love it if you could unpack this idea of "telling a story" with your outfit and what that means to you! :)
Absolutely loved this video and how you showed what worked and didn’t work and the reasons why. I see lots of videos of what’s right and wrong to wear together but they have no explanation (or just basic info) as to why such simple changes make a difference. ❤
More about proportions! Because of you and Maire-Anne Lecoeur I have discovered the value in my wardrobe and am really enjoying putting together things I already own. And spending less but spending on pieces that fit in, that I love. I may even try a capsule wardrobe for the fall, one of my capsule colors being red. Im not sure yet. Cheers!
It is so helpful to actually SEE the differences between tucking and untucking, etc. I love these kinds of videos. I am hoping you will address "capri" pants now that spring is arriving.
I appreciate your videos soo much! This one had an equal focus on footwear and I can NOT seem to get my shoe game in order so that focus was really helpful. You're an excellent teacher!
Proportion...proportion...proportion! Yes, I really get it! Next time I'm not liking my "look," I'm going to check out the proportion, thanks to this great video!
LOVED this "quickie". Not sure I really understood the 1/3 - 2/3 proportion theory before..... NOW I DO 🙂 Would you please do a segment on closet organization? Do I group all my long sleeve button downs together OR do I organize by color? or do I separate casual from dressy? I really feel that organizing my closet "for success" would allow me to play a little more with my daily look. To clarify, I am talking about just the hanging portion of my closet, not the drawers or folded items. THANKS for all you do! I feel like my fashion senses is elevated with each video I watch :-) You are the BEST!
Another incredibly instructive and relatable video, Alyssa. The how-to and how-not-to and how-to-make-it-better approach is very, very effective. And I love that you used basic pieces that we all likely have. While my instincts for what looks good on me are usually pretty solid, your videos explain the theory behind it all. And as always, you are just a pleasure to listen to and watch. So natural!
Definitely you put into words what I just eyeball. I think most ppl need some guidance tho. But typically I can feel when something is off in my outfit. I’m a student of life so I like to learn the “why” and “what” of things!
Awesome. Demonstrating the solution or rebalancing of an outfit that isn’t on the mark- is helpful & brilliantly executed here! More of these- yes!!! Thank you!
I loved this video, I could instantly see the difference the in each look with the changes made and your explanation was clear and hugely useful. Thank you.
Your advice on footwear was eye opening. I always tend to go for the bland option that just matches the colors, and fail to recognize this as what's holding back the entire outfit. Your tips are always on point, and I also appreciate how accepting and inclusive they are of various tastes. Thanks!
Excellent as always. I love this approach-understanding HOW to make a look work helps so much. This content approach is very much the epitome of slow fashion. Thank you.
One of my favorite videos! Loved seeing both what does work and especially what does not and why. Proportions are one of my favorite things to play with and this gave me a lot to think about!
Hi Alyssa, I love the way you explain the principles , it’s so logical hence easy to remember! However I will still need to rewatch as we hopefully will start feeling spring temperatures! 👠❤️🇨🇦
Thank you for the video 😊 would love to see some dresses styling - plain and patterned, also the proportions with dresses or how to style a too short one with jeans or leggings? It's a challenge for me to style my dresses, make changes or get creative, though I love them ❤
@bbelle be You may have seen Alyssa, in past videos, getting more wear from her dresses by styling knitwear and shirts on top of them. (Knotting or tucking the shirt at her waist.) The end effect can make the dress look like a skirt. Her other dress trick was to style a button-through dress as a topper.
This was very useful. I could totally relate to a black jumper and skirt sloppy outfit, and I was always struggling to make it work. Well, now I know what to do 🎈Thanks!
I learned that my instincts on wearing my lug loafer with my slightly wide ankle pants is a winner. I’ve tried them with flats and it just doesn’t work. Plus I always wear these pants with a shirt that’s tucked or a sweater that’s tucked. Thank you Alyssa, I feel I need to keep working on my accessories and shoes to accent all of these nice pieces I’ve been adding to my wardrobe. I’ve also been learning with belt width looks best on me…it sure is a lot of trial and error.
I love this type of video! Thank you!! I’d also love to see another travel capsule video (that’s how I found your channel to begin with. I’ve been binge watching ever since to catch up on all your content).
Thanks. I also have a long torso and shorter legs..i put my difficulty with footwear down to having rather big feet, so its interesting to consider some of the principles you mention here. I also hate wearing heels!
I love this!! Thank you for the explanations of why certain looks work and others don't work as well. I'd love to see a video on how to "tuck" in shirts when I have a tummy. Also, what are your favorite high waisted jean brands? I'll look for it in your videos too. Also, I love your style and calmness!! :) Thanks again!!

Are midis on you already maxi in the of store length? Just curious. Midis are shortening, so you need to make sure the rest of your Outfit is elongating. Thank you for showing the « don’ts » as well. A dowdy shoe with a midi skirt and big sweater doesn’t look so bad on a young woman or someone very slim, but you are exactly right-waist, footwear, and jacket length are crucial. More on these three areas would be great. For example, jacket length with a short dress…
I really enjoyed this format of your videos ❤ Could you please do one with floor length skirt (what to wear on top and what jackets on top) and one on ballerina flats (what pants or skirts should never be worn with those)?
This was really really helpful and fun! You are so talented, esp in EXPLAINING THE WHY it works or doesn’t work! Thank you! I would love more of these kinds of vids!!

Fav this week .. the Italian style skirt with the loafers and oddly the no!her beige last number. Always a fan of pointy shoes...🤣😅though not always practical! Thanks A!
Late to the party but great content as always! The amount of substantive value is amazing. I never even consider whether I prefer balanced looks or more tension in them and I guess it's time to figure it out 😅
I absolutely adore your videos. I'm super long-waisted - can you do a video for us sometime? It's a challenge especially when dealing with proportion and also finding long enough tshirts, etc. Also is there a way to purchase your closet video after the fact? Thanks for all you do!
Hi Alyssa, what a great video! 😊Please could you discuss more about what handbag to wear with which styles and proportions. I am a proudly curvy woman with a edgy/ artistic style and always just think about colour of handbag and not shape and structure. Thanks❤
I love this! There's so much information here, I think I'll need to watch it a few times. I definitely think I've fallen into the boring shoes trap in the first example.
This was a particularly informative video. Please bring us more proportion and visual weight videos!! Honestly just more outfits explained in this way would be great 🙏
Would love to see a video on how to create balance or tension in an outfit where the person has to wear a wide toebox shoe! I live in Arcopedico N42 boots because of foot issues.
EXCELLENT! So many great do’s and don’ts BUT with the REASON they are one or the other. This episode could have been called, “why the SHOE makes or breaks the outfit.” ❤
I feel like I'm taking a class when I watch your videos. You are teaching me to up my clothing game and in turn I'm passing this information on to my 18 year old daughter. So good . Thank you!
I feel exactly the same !!!

Never ceases to amaze me the transformation that shoes make to an outfit. Excellent video, as always Alyssa. Thank you ❤

That was awesome! Super informative! I really learned a lot! More please! ❤Thanks, Alyssa!❤
You are such a great teacher! You deserve more followers.
Fabulous, thank you! Would love to see more like this for proportions.
This was a particularly informative video. Please bring us more proportion and visual weight videos!! Honestly just more outfits explained in this way would be great 🙏
Great- simple to understand and apply to any body shape. Thank you
Such a great video! Inspires me to play in my clothes with more confidence and feel less inclined to purchase more.
Amazing! Absolutely love!
Loved this! I did keep looking over at that blue blazer on the rack!😂Is it new? Kept hoping you were going to style it in 😍😍😍
Would love to see a video on how to create balance or tension in an outfit where the person has to wear a wide toebox shoe! I live in Arcopedico N42 boots because of foot issues.
Perfect, Alyssa!!
Needed this. Proportion is so important.
Amazing video! Literally maths of fashion! 😂 Love it!!! ♥️👌🏼
The jacket again....I must find one....I love it.
Wonderful video and so informative 👍🏼👍🏼 I always learn something from you! Would love to see a video on styling vintage handbags.
Such and informative video in a great format! Loved it❤
Great vid!! So so informative! U look amazing in anything!!❤
EXCELLENT! So many great do’s and don’ts BUT with the REASON they are one or the other. This episode could have been called, “why the SHOE makes or breaks the outfit.” ❤
