This is basically the pre-cursor to the 1990 HG Zeta Gundam. I bought this kit in 1997, I painted him in the Amuray colors and I bought another which I primed in gray and air brushed. Believe it or not both my completely built kits sold for $70 a piece back in 2003. I had the original EX-S Gundam from this line, it's huge but you will really have to paint it.
1980's... and it can do a Waverider transformation like it's nothing... sure, the wobbly legs can be forgiven because the kit is mad old, but the Waverider transformation is a proper transformation, no need for parts formers. It definitely puts most moden transforming kits to shame. The only other kit I know that can do a proper transformation is the HG Arios Gundam. I honestly don't like kits that use parts formers, maybe because I've gotten used to my brother's Arios which just flips a few pieces here and there to turn into a mobile armor.
the early hg zeta had pretty much the same transformation. it limited the leg articulation though, which is probably why they gave that up for the hguc version.
The Kyrios has only ONE piece between the MS and MA mode, and it goes in its crotch. The Harute has a Re-GZ syndrome. Not sure if you want to know about the HGACs and Zero Honoo
The Kyrios is what made me hate partsformers forever. I lost one of the little pieces that connects the legs in MS mode, so now my Kyrios is forever in MA unless I decide I want to do some kind of destroyed Kyrios diorama or something....
An Tran kyrios isn't that bad of a partsformer theres much worst ones.. also does your kryios have a bluefin label cause if yes you can order replacement parts
GOOD NEWS! This guy is getting a reissue!! I thought i would never see this guy in my life again....but now I can finally have one of this in my collection~(most of all the Sentinel kits are reissued this september.)
Thanks to The Gundam Base Tokyo, nearly every Gunpla kit from the '80s and '90s has been reissued - including this kit. I just got mine at a local Toys "R" Us for roughly US$14.
if that's the original form 1988 then , i do like the mechanics ,like , the arm is not held by a loose peg , instead it's a kind of lock articulation and the feet come with great mechanics too , the Smart Beam Gun looks pretty smooth so i don't it needs much of a recoloring or something , and the way the arms are mounted is simply magnificent to me
Don't forget the first release HG 1/144 Zeta and ZZ back in the early 90's, I think. Though I believe the point of the RG Zeta was having a full inner frame that could transform without part swapping which the others did not have.
I really like this model, because the way the legs transform is more faithful to the original Sentinel models and pictures, not like the more recent models where the legs transform like the Zeta ones. Great video!
lol thats no problem, everybody is busy some time of the year..(same here..?) well, is there a way to just modify the existing hand? since those hand polycaps arent easily found as spares...
Oh Nice The NG Version. I have the S booster from this series. I was thinking about getting this kit cause of the price. Didn't want to paint the entire kit, but if I got the MG I would end up mostly likely painting the entire thing. Like the review. Helps me making up my mind when purchasing kits.
The mobile armor mode looks a lot better to me, and looked great on that base. I would probably display it like that, but I imagine there might be worries given how much room that'd take up.
Really wanna get one and replace the arms and legs with the modern Zeta Plus. Replace the hip guns with the [bst] thrusters from the HG Ex-S and it'll be set.
well, the swivel joint might be problematic in fact...but it is still a very good kit(checked the manual, even swivels L/R at the top of the knee!!) a few more silly questions...(?) are you able to put the smart gun backwards like the Zeta's shield? just wondering.. and do you know of any solution for the lack of holding hands on the right hand? since it is a peg I wonder what kind of hands would fit it. Now I feel sad that the zeta plus does not share any parts with the zeta... no remolds!
amazing review! god isnt this kit amazing....too bad it is so hard to find and sooo expensive..... I have a question! does this kit have any plastic on plastic joints(transformation and MS)? if it doesnt have a lot then this kit is perfect. definitely no doubt...
thank you i just recieved this gunpla zaku desert type gunpla and dom tropical test type and this is my first glue and paint build ca i ask any pointers and does painting after building make it THAT much harder?
You might as well build the alt mode separately. -_- If only Sunrise kept the deal they had with Takara during the Brave series. If ANYONE can do perfect transformations, it's Takara.
Oooo, since you like UC and gundam wing are. you planning to get the mg nu gundam ver ka for december and mg tallgeese in january. I preordered them already •3•, but what do you honestly think? I mean, are you excited or just very skeptical and just brush it off...
Well after the fact in making this statement, but your comment about how the tail sticker doesn't match the robot in the final letter? If you look at the Zeta Plus on the cover in waverider mode, THAT one matches.
I'm waiting for a restock on those. For the time being they're discontinued on all major websites or they go for way to much on Ebay. I have the old HG ZZ on backorder at HLJ so as soon as they get a restock, I'll know =P
+Kakarot197 Out of curiousity, are you able to attach the shield from the normal zeta to the bottom of the MA mode if you don't really like the gun? Also, since the feet don't fold, is it possible to swap legs with the original Zeta?
Knees, I mean. Yeah, the Zeta has really bad stability, but none of the RGs have loose elbows or knees and even the RG Zeta can hold poses better than this guy without any mods.
I know, there is actually a 1988 HG kit of the Zeta gundam with this type of transformation where you just pluck the head off and do the same thing as the 1/144 Zeta plus. There's also a new HG line that would be revealed or released this spring which teases us with the new Zeta gundam(Link:gundamguy.blogspot.my/2016/11/hg-accelerate-evolution-zeta-gundam-on.html) Hopefully it's not really a parts-former though.
I'm sorry, I have to disagree with that statement. I don't know if it's because you've filmed this multiple times or transformed it multiple times, but I can see the legs wobbling throughout the entire review. Something my RGs don't do. Sure, parts fall off, but it's nothing glue can't fix. Wobbling, on the other hand, is a serious problem for posing, especially. :/
Bardpado "Something my RGs don't do"" Yeeah well the Zeta kit sucked and hard to point out kit progress when their are only 11 kits of which 2 are just different color schemes...so yeah :p
Wow, this kit is actually better than I thought.
Plus, really love C1's design.

There's also HGUC Gaplant, Bawoo, and etc as well

I gotta say. I just picked this kit up and on starting to feel better about the purchase after hearing the great reviews!
GOOD NEWS!

wow. and everyone thought that the RG zeta is impossible. they had already done it since 1988!

why didn't the revive be able to do this? also why couldn't they make a buttload of variants to sell?

And this kit has been re-stocked in our local Hobby and toy store, with the same price as an IBO HG kit
If you look at the box, the aircraft form is RNPC while the mobile suit form is RNPB.
I love how wobbly the legs of all units before a certain time are.
Wobble wobble.
lol thats no problem, everybody is busy some time of the year..(same here..?)

got mine for $10.99 (feel of victory)

The "B" goes with the "02" number while the "C" should go with the "03" numbers
Really wanna get one and replace the arms and legs with the modern Zeta Plus. Replace the hip guns with the [bst] thrusters from the HG Ex-S and it'll be set.
Do you need glue at some parts are can you use plastic cement instead?
Yes you can use plastic cement but some part are snap fit.
Damn kit be older than me and transform better than the newest transformable kit i had. Man i really gotta get me hand on one.
Just bought this and the pbandai one so I can customize it and make it the supreme fully-transforming Zeta Plus
well, the swivel joint might be problematic in fact...but it is still a very good kit(checked the manual, even swivels L/R at the top of the knee!!)
a few more silly questions...(?)

it looks perfect for a custom paint job
amazing review!

I definitely see why you like this guy better than the HGUC version. Damn shame they haven't tried a transformation like this since the Bawoo.
Yeah, partsformation seems to be the default option nowadays =/
You might as well build the alt mode separately. -_- If only Sunrise kept the deal they had with Takara during the Brave series. If ANYONE can do perfect transformations, it's Takara.

That really is impressive for so old kit.
Well after the fact in making this statement, but your comment about how the tail sticker doesn't match the robot in the final letter? If you look at the Zeta Plus on the cover in waverider mode, THAT one matches.
If you get the new HGUC Zeta plus, can you do a comparison?
I have the MG version and the legs are floopy on it , great reveiw man
Though he probably can't hold up another suit, can he? He's not like Raider Gundam (though I'd bet the subpar HG of Raider can't do that, either).
I personally think this would make a rad Macross/Gundam Valkyrie crossover figure.
Can you do the 1990's HG zeta gundam or any of the 90's HGs?
I'm waiting for a restock on those. For the time being they're discontinued on all major websites or they go for way to much on Ebay.
I have the old HG ZZ on backorder at HLJ so as soon as they get a restock, I'll know =P

I miss this toy. :D
It's better than the hguc kit in everything but stability and color separation

This guy can do a better "A" stance than the MG o.o
Hopefully the new HG Accelerate Evolution Zeta does the same thing.
MGZwei it can't Zeta Plus has a somewhat different transformation from the normal zeta

I just subscribe and I love your reviews make more
How can I get this kit now?
I'm sorry, I have to disagree with that statement. bardpado the zeta plus wobby legs has to do with age of the model kit and when it was created
Bardpado "Something my RGs don't do"" Yeeah well the Zeta kit sucked and hard to point out kit progress when their are only 11 kits of which 2 are just different color schemes...so yeah :p
my HG raider managed to hold up the HG calamity eh.. haha..
Really? Not bad!
I have two of these I painted with some ugly ass color schemes I'm dig em up n strip n leave them with the original scheme
It is a real F U to the partsformers of today.
Vo Mabulay yet it predates them by a decade well the transformation block partsforming at least
Hi-MEGA HED Great!!...
If you get the new HGUC Zeta plus, can you do a comparison?
