I want to follow up on my original post I did 2 years ago.
I started searching for help on youtube as a last ditch effort for a major foot problem I had.
It felt like a was stepping on a pebble, it was achy and discomforting, and it had a chain effect, went up from my foot to my back. I'd also experience knee problems like it was weak and unstable. Lower back problems and sciatica. I dealt with this for a long time at least a year.
I was messed up to say the least.
I won't go into details on how the injury occurred bc it doesn't matter. I got an xray that came up negative. I shouldve got an MRI, but never did.
So I dont know exactly what was wrong.
That was long winded, sorry, but here comes the success story.
This video introduced me to ribbon taping.
The very first time I ribbon taped my toe (second toe was all my problems) I noticed an immediate improvement.
    I stuck with it.
It hurt at times, im not sure if I was too extreme with the taping or it was my foot bones and ligaments rejoining.
Stayed with the ribbon taping for over a year, changing it when necessary.
My foot is now healed! Pebble sensation completely gone and the strength in my foot and leg is completely back.
So if anyone out there is dealing with the same problem and is in despair, TRY RIBBON TAPING.
Use and anchor piece of tape as well to hold the ribbon tape together and keep it from moving. I became a master with the taping technique.
    Sorry for the long post.
Anyone out there in the same boat give it a shot and expect to tape for a while, its not a one week thing.

Just finished the video. Very informative. Really well done. I was originally diagnosed at an urgent care by a DO with a neuroma. Prednisone and metatarsal pads with new insoles seemed to help. Second flare up last Friday, but this time I noticed the pain started under the second toe knuckle. Found this video today. Seems more likely to be capsulitis, but I won't pretend to be a doctor. I do have an appointment with a podiatrist, but not for six weeks.

My left foot has been in pain, like it is broke for all most 2 years. My regular doctor, and foot doctor just keep doing x-rays. Then they say its still not broke. The foot doctor keeps saying he is going to do an ultrasound, but he never does. I am trying to get time to get a new doctor, but I have to work all the time. Now I have a lump on the joint on the bottom of my second toe closer to my foot, and between my second toe and big toe. The top of my foot is in so much pain, and now I have a lump in front of my heal. The pain radiates up to my knee. I have went to too other doctors, and they push on my leg, and say they dont think I have a blood clot. I really get worried I am going to loose my foot. Watching you youtube channel helps me learn things to help. Thank you.😁⭐️⭐️

I just want to say I find your videos so informative.
I injured myself like 4yrs ago. Felt a pop doing burpees and collapsed.
The pain I felt had me wanting to chop my leg off.
I got an x-ray a couple days after and nothing showed up!
So ever since then I have been rehabbing by myself (no insurance).
I have suffered back, hip, knee , and most of all ball of foot pain.
Feels like pebbles under my foot.
Things have gotten better, but like I said this happened yrs ago.
I still have lingering issues, I'm a red blooded American male but it's breaking me down to the point of crying lol.
I want my right leg to feel like my left, healthy.
    Anyway, I digress.
Your tip about the ribbon taping has had a profound effect, my foot feels the best it has in years.
I've done everything else you recommended, the tape proves to be the most effective.
    Thank you great channel.

@@noorulhuda4729 thanks for asking, ribbon taping HEALED my toe/foot.
Mind you, I wore the ribbon tape for over a year. Reapplied fresh tape of course.
Day one of ribbon tape i immediately noticed a difference, things weren't shifting around i suppose.
Look up how to to a proper ribbon taping. An anchor piece of tape is necessary.
Fyi, I never was properly diagnosed with my foot injury. I got an xray done after it happened but nothing showed up. MRIs is what I needed, they are expensive.
It felt like I was stepping on a pebble, my leg stability was weak. Pain radiated from my foot to lower back and everything in between.
So if this sounds familiar definitely try ribbon tape.
Yes, its a conservative measure, non surgery. You have to keep with the tape bare minimum 6 months.
Like I said my foot is healed. I thought it was going to be with me forever.
Best of luck, apologies for the long reply.
      Cheers

I got my 2nd toe capsulitis after a year of playing Table Tennis (ping pong). In one of your clips you suggest not to continue applying pressure but I really don't want to stop, it's the only activity I love doing. What options do I have? I bought Astra shoes, added a pad and recently I bought a $600 orthotic but don't want to use it as Dr. Angela Walk is saying that orthotics are the worst thing you can do. What other options do I have to continue this great activity? It's my 2nd capsulitis in 6 months, and last time the entire foot was swollen.

I originally injured my left second toe during a jog years ago. My sock got too tight, I lost my toenail, and my toe has been bent ever since (dislocated it?). In 2019 I had a really bad fall landing hard on my left knee. Since that time I have been having burning pain on the bottom of my left foot. I am thinking that the fall set something off on my original injury. Looks like I might have to go to a podiatrist at some point in the near future as standing merely causes me pain.

I actually got my second-toe capsulitis from swimming. I swim on a team. I practice several days per week. I strained my toes by hitting the pool wall during turns and flip turns. The action is similar to jumping. (It doesn't help that I have long toes, and my second toe is longer than my big toe). Do you have any advice on how I can continue to train in the pool while protecting my foot? I have tried to slow down during turns, but this doesn't work very well. Is there a type of protective equipment I could wear on my foot while swimming?

After water aerobics the other day the base of my 3rd toe started hurting… a LOT! Upon watching your video I examined my foot and there’s a bump that’s like a bruise but hard at the joint. A picture is worth a thousand words but I can’t upload a photo so I’m trying to describe as best I can. I injured that foot 3 years ago from wearing a new pair of 3” heels to the theatre the first day I got them. Walking a lot in those shoes seemingly ruined my right foot. Been to 3 podiatrists each of which says something entirely different back then but this knot is brand new. The joint is flexible and each moves independently. Can you try to help me identify this thing so I get the proper treatment? Maybe I should do a teledoc appointment with you! That way you can at least “see” what I’m trying to describe 😕

I suffered from hammer toes all my life and I had surgery on my feet in 2016. I had at least 8 toes total that needed to be fixed. The best advice I would give anybody is to keep stretching your muscles and toes, and if you get the surgery, keep stretching, because I noticed my toes are starting to arch again.

Just came across this video. Super helpful. I have had this issue for a couple of years. They have given me shots for the pain to no avail. I injured my plantar plate walking in heels and when stepping up on a curb, I stepped on a small jagged rock that came up and hurt me just under my second toe joint, just as I put weight down on the ball of my foot. Since then, my second toe has been numb at the tip and I have pain where the second toe meets the foot. It snaps all the time. I am hoping with your suggestions, I can strengthen my ankle and relax the Achilles to help heal this toe. I have bought orthopedic shoes and they all seem to aggravate this toe. Relief is all I seek and to be able to walk without pain in that toe joint.

I have second toe hammertoe, and I’m 31. I started having issues about 2 years ago, after running in Vibram 5 finger toes shoes for 10 years. My podiatrist also recommended shoes with a 10mm+ heel drop, stiff back, and orthotics. It still hurts to walk in them though and while I’m at home, I prefer to go barefoot because it feels better. Do you think there are issues with walking around at home barefoot? I no longer run at all and only do cardio on the Peloton bike.

I had a forklift driver at work run a pallet into my feet. The left foot was closer so the 2nd and 3rd toes are stuck curled up. Dr took xrays and said no break and it will be fine. 2 years later if I soak in hot water it has a burning sensation. Never got better.

@@DrTomBiernacki I made an incremental improvement on your duct tape design. Instead of folding it over 1/2, cut small flaps on each side and fold those over. Then it doesn't twist and is easier to apply in a way that prevents the toe from rising but doesn't put pressure on it.

It’s still wild to me that a podiatrist recommends Hokas. I tried them and had knee and hip pain like no other. Switched to my zero drop shoes and all the problems were gone.

In my experience 25% of people hate the hoka shoes and 75% love the hoka. Healthy young people don't need maximalist support, but older stiff and significantly painful older people/diabetic/neuropathic patients tend to love the Hoka shoes. They are not for everyone!

I had a big bump on my big toe and underwent surgery. As a result of the surgery my second toe got damaged, it dislocated. The surgeon shrugged it off and claimed that further surgery on the second would not help. It is nit painful but really unsighly and bothers me. What do you think I could do further?

I had a bunionectomy done alone with the 2nd metatarsal shortened. Now the scar over the 2nd toe is forcing it up. Is there something I can buy or make to force the 2nd toe down without having to constantly hold my toe down by hand? Need something to keep it down for a long time to get the scar to stretch til the toe stays down.

    • @DrTomBiernacki
      @DrTomBiernacki  3 года назад

If the toe is truly dislocated then it can be a end stage plantar plate tear, beyond this guide a visit with a doctor would be recommended. A dislocated toe may require a specialist or surgery.

what is a difference between the Freiberg’s infarction and Capsulitis in the second toe?

    • @DrTomBiernacki
      @DrTomBiernacki  6 месяцев назад

      We appreciate you watching!
Freiberg Capsulitis is the destruction of the actual bone due to lack of bloodflow. It is much less common.
If possible, we would appreciate a quick rating (hopefully good), as it makes a HUGE difference!

Just slid down a rock ledge and sure enough my 2nd toe turned into a claw toe instantly. Tried to tape it for a while but then made an appointment with my podiatrist and he said that the claw toe will not go back to normal. I thought it would. He made me a bottom cast and gave me a shoe to keep my foot absolutely flat. I thought the claw would go back to normal
