Hi, just a quick suggestion. I sew with vinyl every day. The best way to keep it from sticking to your machine bed is to cover the bed of your machine with a padded amazon shipping bag. Make sure you cut an opening for your feed dogs and tape the bag down well. Happy stitching!
Another awesome pattern Jess! Your videos always make me so happy. Sometimes I even play them while I’m sewing other items or washing dishes. Thank you for all you do!
I used to own a drapery workroom. We routinely made cushions for boats with vinyl. We used silicone spray to keep the vinyl from sticking to the machine. Also, I love your videos. I’ve ordered a pattern to make one of the bags, but I think I will order the fabric to make this one today. I never thought I wanted to make bags, but you’ve inspired me!
What I use for sticky vinyl is use the tissue paper that comes on an interfacing bolt (the part with the directions) and cut it into 1”-2” strips. I put this over the seam I want to stitch and tear it away when done.
This is a great bag and I love your method for turning the zipper ends in to tack them down. It's so much cleaner and easier that the way I have been struggling with it. Great pattern! Thanks!
Nice bag!! Love that you did this with zipper pull added at the end. I always wait to attach pulls because the sewing is SO much easier. Love the boxing and binding steps too!! So cute. Off to match up some materials 😊❤
Bernina sells a mat for you to put on the surface and under your needle called slip stick so your vinyl doesn’t stick to surface and your needle plate. I’m sure Amazon sells it too. Can cut to size and reusable. Works great for all surfaces that stick
Jess try sewing machine oil on your clear vinyl on top and bottom it really helps it glide and won’t damage your machine or the clear vinyl, just wipe off when done
You are the most fun, thoughtful and encouraging bag-making instructor. Love how you make it enjoyable for all skill levels. By the way, the 2nd binding colors - I’m swooning!
I’ve made 2 of these. I wanted 1 for myself, but I have some one asking to buy it. And I used material that I had on hand. I don’t now what to charge…. It’s a simple enough pattern. I will be making more.
Thank you so much for the pattern and the video, always great. The bottom vinyl on this bath is gorgeous . Love the star and pastels. Where is this from please?
Love this. What needle and size thread are you using ? Do you find you have to change settings on your machine when sewing with vinyl and thick materials ?
Always love your projects and videos! I always wonder tho if when you topstitch and change to the 3.5 stitch length, do you adjust your tension or do you allow the machine(I have a BERNINA 480se) to change it for you? It’s so helpful to learn from other bag makers who also use BERNINA machines 🤗😍
Thank you for another fun pattern & great video! Can't wait to make a few of these! I don't see that shiny chrome vinyl on the link you provided. Do you recall the name of the type of vinyl? Thank you!
Thank you. I have been struggling with boxed corners, every time they look hideous. This is so much easier and an amazing pattern. I am little nosey, do you have a watch on both your wrists? Sorry for being straight to the point but am Scottish lol x
Jessica can you explain the unmatching top and bottom thread? When i was learning to sew in home economics you always used the same thread in both top and bottom. I love your videos and all your information. The reason i am asking you. 🙏🏻❤️
Love these bags!! Especially the one with chrome vinyl. I clicked the link you had provided and went through it all but i couldnt find it. Do you have an item number please? Ty❤
i love this tutorial! Thank you Jess! I have a question. at 33:28 you said to sew down the binding at 3/8 inch but the video text shoes 1/8 inch. do you mind clarifying?
I know I'm late to the party, having just found this pattern. You state its a free pattern which is fabulous....... but when I follow the link, its listed as £5 so NOT FREE. Why is the a price for this pattern now? Disappointed as I was really looking forward to having a try at making it.
All the measurements for this are in the description of the video. Originally this was just a tutorial and the pattern sizes, but there were so many requests for a full written out pattern so we put that in the shop. And you're correct, the written out version is not free, but also not required to make this.

Imagine this with handles like a lunch box!
I made one just like that yesterday. It looks so cute. I don't know how to add a picture here though.

They are awesome , can’t wait to give it a go.
Love this! Question for you. Could one use a gross grain ribbon in place of a binder
I’ve made 2 of these. I wanted 1 for myself, but I have some one asking to buy it. And I used material that I had on hand. I don’t now what to charge…. It’s a simple enough pattern. I will be making more.
Thanks from Lisa O!
Could you sew a French seam instead of binding?
Beautiful
I soooooo would buy this bag from you Jess!!! 😍 Gorgeous
Hi just found your channel. Very helpful in my beginnning sewing journey. Where is the link to this bag? I cant find it anywhere. Thanks
Use grease proof paper (I'm from the UK) to stop the vinyl from sticking to your machine base plate, I think you call it baking parchment.
Thanks Jess for another great tutorial. I liked the new method of boxing the corners. I will give it a try.
Could you put snaps on the sides and the top corners to sort of box the top and have a mock rounded zipper?
Love all 3 of these! ❤
Jess, very nice bag. Can you please let me know where you purchased the binding rolls?
Love your vinyl choices!
Love this!! I have a Bernina 590, she hates Vinyl. Loops , I have tried everything.

You need a Janome, possibly 6700 or HD9 (straight stitch) they sew through everything ;-)
Thank you so much for the pattern and the video, always great. The bottom vinyl on this bath is gorgeous . Love the star and pastels. Where is this from please?
