Hey yall, just wanted to be transparent and say that I do not believe this is working anymore. Between SRTM no longer functioning the same way and minecraft 1.18 completely changing generation, this tutorial is not accurate anymore. I am sure there is still a way to do it but I don't have the time to put into remaking this video. Very sorry yall.
awesome video. Only thing is for the original resource, i was able to get just my small town via the request, but trying to open it in microdem says geotiff required GDAL. trying to install it is a pain because apparently i need anaconda and for whatever reason the installer on their site fails
did u manage to fix that? i've tryed installing all gdal sht i found arround but it keeps me asking for that bin directory wich i dont have .... im getting crazy here
@@stropheum ty for the info ... tomorrow i'll take another look to the stuff ... i think i remember already used microdem with the same format im using now .. lets see how it goes. I guesss you finally made it work right? did you change anything?
So how can I get a height map with a size of lets say 3 square km with detailed height data? For real life rebuilds? Since I dont want the full grid just a small piece but with high details.
If you are in the US, you can often check your local county's GIS site, or your state's, or topography sites for the same. USGS Earthexplorer might be another way to find Digital Elevation Models as well.
Yeah unfortunately it looks like this exact process is no longer followable. If you delve into the GIS and rendering world im sure you or somebody could figure a new one out though! I have very little GIS experience and I was able to develop this process myself.

It still works. Unless I did something wrong the game generates outside of the map and that looks terrible as border

@@evanloughridge5323 no mate, i i left it there, waiting to meet a person that maybe could help me. I also would still apreciate some info about it.

will the generated map have ores as usual (for survival play)?
If you enable it in the worldpainter render settings it *should* work for that yes.
I figured there had to be a way to convert a DEM
damn it dude, i thought i finally found a good tutorial but it doesn't work because im from Finland and can't download the terrain thing

Is it safe to create an account for the government site because I want to use the whole earth map. How can I do that?
I can't merge the tifs
my tif won't load in microdem
what if i want the land data AND underwater data?
I'm forgetting how exactly I did this, but there is bathometric data available from USGS I believe from the same site.
will the buildings be in the maps when imported??
of course no lol
Is this working on bedrock?
Is this exclusive to java or pe
