Thank you Kelly. I’m in Jersey too and the weather is messing with my anxiety! At this point I’m fingers crossed with my three 2022 planted hydrangeas as well as all my other flowers and bushes. I’m looking forward to more tips…thanks again!
Thank you from western suburbs of Chicago. I have 7 different kinds of hydrangeas in my yard, so I need all the help I can get to make sure they’ll look beautiful come spring.

Thanks for the tip on that. I live in hardiness zone 7b but the area is prone to get 1 to 2 nasty cold snaps with strong dry winds every winter. Generally my big leaf macrophylla hydrangeas do fine without any cover. Except last winter we had an unusually cold and prolonged cold snap with those dry winds after being well above freezing for a while. The plants didn’t get a chance to acclimate to the rapid change and they didn’t bloom as well this year. This coming winter I will cover them with burlap if a cold snap gets that low again and will be mindful of uncovering them as the temperature begins to rise.
Im in the UK, Lincolnshire and i must thank you for your fab tips , i have followed your tips this year and they do work ( but of course you know this) . Hopefully we will have some big beautiful flowers this year , -7c at the moment but spring is not far away . Thanks again , love your channel xx
Lovely video! Watching from St Albans, a city just outside London (in the UK). Just finished the landscaping in my garden and getting ready for plants. I absolutely love the look of hydrangeas and would like them in my garden. Really interesting to see them during the winter. I’m thinking of Annabella’s and Limelight’s x
What about if you are in an area that has 3-4 ft of snow around your hydrangea bush and the temperature warm up periodically like in Duluth, MN canni leave the covering on .
I live near Toronto, ON Canada. Zone 5 or 6a. Not sure which zone it really is. I have 5 bushes of hydrangeas that bloom on old wood. My biggest one is about 15 or more years old. Last couple of years it has not been having many flowers. I was blaming it on the hard winters. So, in the fall, I put a 2' high round cage, made of chicken wire, around each bush and fill it with tree leaves to protect it from severe frost. Last May, I removed all the leaves and a few nights later, we had a surprise hard frost that killed my the top buds on my oldest bush, which gets the least sunlight. I ended up with only 3 flowers. How many years can a hydrangea bloom before it gets too old?
Florida can be rough for hydrangea . I would try planting limelight hydrangea but make sure they have afternoon shade and keep up with the watering . good luck 🌸🤗
I hardly ever prune but when I do , I’ll prune the mop heads a bit in late July since next years blooms will be put in place starting in August and I don’t want to cut them off . The limelight and Annabelle’s I also hardly ever prune back but when I do it would be in very early spring .
I’m in zone 5b West Central Indiana. Our temps fluctuate so bad these last several years. I’m confused about when and if I need to cover them. So if it gets to 32° cover, above 45-50° uncover? We never have just steady cold winters anymore. I don’t want to be covering/uncovering every few days. 😕 Just ready to rip them out and plant something else or nothing at all.
I received a hydrangea in spring. I had it in a pot...morning sun...afternoon shade. I took it out and brought it in the house. I put in in the sunny spot. Then I got a plant light. It's starting to produce green leaves. I plan to put it in the yard in the spring. Am I doing something right or wrong.. irene
bought a house in nov last year cut all the plants to ground level NO blooms last year , this yar im expecting um ? am i riht ? left the plants alone this year ? am i right ? will this year be ok ? Bill from michigan ...
Hi! I actually just picked up my first Hydrangea plant today from Walmart. I know planting in early spring is fine, but we're still expecting a day (next Monday) to dip down to 31 at night.. I live in Chatsworth NJ, probably an hour south from you.. What do you think about planting right now, should I wait a little longer? Thanks in advance!
Is it ok to prune little lime hydrangeas in January (I'm in the Boston area-zone 6a)? Or is it important to wait until late winter/early spring? I have a few that need some pruning to remove crossing & thin branches. Thanks!

Happy New Year ! So glad you enjoyed the video . I appreciate your kind comment . 🌸🤗
I prune the deadwood out of mine when we get a warm snap in Winter. It is easier to tell what branch is dead.
