Banger video. People who don't realize that you're on another level are just used to a totally different player mentality in their own games. They feel they run into a bunch of lucky spam (and stuff that looks like spam) because Hanzo damage is so big and instant, and because replays can look weird when lag is in the picture. When soldier players get lucky or spam, it doesn't look or feel as bad. When Junkrat gets lucky with spam, the projectiles were still bigger and it took a combo or multiple hits, so even that doesn't feel as bad. But if a Hanzo hits, they really did hit. But yeah, thanks for fighting that fight to killing the "Hanzo shoots logs" meme - Hanzo arrows are tied for smallest projectile in the game with unscoped Ana shots. We're far beyond the scatter arrow days. At high level, Hanzo requires excellent aim, prediction, and counterplay, and even at low levels playing with pure spam isn't a recipe for success, as a low-skill Hanzo will melt as soon as anyone closes the distance. The counter to Hanzo is using the WASD keys in a less predictable way - everyone's got it, and it counters Hanzo harder than basically every other hero.
This attitude isn't just directed towards Arrge. I see people all the time claim good Hanzo players are lucky or that Hanzo requires luck. Just in general, people tend to look down upon projectile heroes for being driven by luck and easier to aim. It is unfortunate because the main reason many of us play OW is for the diversity in mechanics and aiming styles. But a lot of people genuinely wish OW was another bland FPS with mostly hitscan.
It's just that Arrge knows the game and how people act/react so ridiculously well and people are so used to "spamzo" players. So many Hanzo kill cams involve them peeking and firing at the same corner 7 times without a single hit then on the 8th shot there's a *dink* and a kill on a player the Hanzo never even saw. But Argge is like a hunter. He's a Jaeger-Hanzo. Or maybe a Metsästäjä-Hanzo since he's not German.
Getting that prediction right is also the reason i am now addicted to Hanzo. Thank you for your videos and tutorials, Arrge! I used to ignore this hero because he was always not part of the META and have a bigger learning curve than other heroes.
What I find funny, is if you prefire a corner where you see people setup from all the time it's called luck on hanzo, but all the projectile heroes do it, it is just game sense. Especially if you have seen them peek it earlier.
Hey Argge, found you channel recently and you have brought a new level of fun to the game. I have taken alot of your advice and use of sonic arrow to improve my Hanzo play. Thanks for your efforts.
Probability is a very important aspect of Overwatch. Intentionally raising the probability that your shot lands does not make Hanzo lucky, it just means you are good at Hanzo. Improving your raw aiming mechanics will increase the probability of a shot landing, but it's not the only thing you can do. It's equally valid to abuse the opponent's playstyle and mistakes.
There is definitely some luck involved with playing Hanzo, but it's definitely not just all luck like some people tend to think. I tried playing him a couple times after watching you play and just couldn't do it that well. Massive respect to you for playing him, he's hard af sometimes.
You can get lucky on Hanzo or any projectile hero. But the skill is in setting up favorable odds for yourself with good positioning, crosshair placement, and pattern recognition to hit more "lucky" shots than others. Even a game like rock paper scissors which on the surface is all luck has been proven to have players than win more than others by a large margin on a consistent basis. Uncertainty doesn't mean it's luck. Anything with intentionality behind it is a skill. The only shots I consider lucky are those that are unintentiobal--like accidentally clicking or swinging your mouse somewhere and hitting.
Yeah exactly, you can definitely get lucky with anyone. The reason Hanzo is called out more for it is because he's a projectile character too, which can make a lot of shots seem lucky, I know I've definitely gotten some lucky shots off as Widow and people never talk about that@@dylthegod9984

Goat
I'm a "mostly" main Hanzo when dps (Actually my mains are support) but when I'm at a very good match with Hanzo, and people say things like luck or whatever, I immediately understand that they don't know how playing with Hanzo works nor how to play with it .. I've improved a lot by watching your videos Arrge and understood the concept of predicting movement and that stuff to do your shots ..
if they say your shoots are just luck then mine are some black magic stuff especially againts pharah or lucio. Also hanzo is the only hero that you can complain that they did not dodge xD
Players treat luck as if it applies 90% or more in your hanzo's gameplay. As if knowing your enemies and your character doesn't make a difference with a hanzo player attacking people like a rushing soldier 76 with no game plan
