Indeed it says a lot of this "new kid on the block" that he prefers to prioritise meeting foreigners ino of working at home upon his recent "appointment" not "election".
Regardless, the first mission of Simon Harris in EU is to transmit to Ursula Von Der L and to the other member states of the EU customs and trade block, not only that Ireland can contibute to such a project, but to be a proactive MS he must underscore the specific needs of the irish people and state so that they understand this reality.
He must make it clear that there can be no intereference whatsoever with Irish Sovereignty. He must make it clear that he or his government will make a unbreakable strong and frontal block to any such encroachments.
He must make it clear that he will not facilitate "legalistic maneuvering" to enable dilution of irish sovereignty or its constitution.
He must make it clear that while solidarity from Ireland is indeed high, his first priority is, and must always be, the well being of the irish people. Whatever he does or enables in the EU, must be in the best interests of Ireland.
Ireland is a member state of the EU, a decision maker in same, with a vote as a MS.
Simon Harris does not have a mandate from the irish people to "trade off" or "dilute" their sovereignty or independence.
Indeed, for the record, the EU (Ursula et al in Brussels, Strasburg) show an absolute lack of ethic when orchestrating such "one size fits all" policies and regs, thus encroaching on state sovereignty. Harris and irish MEPs must never "take the soup" and approve these.
Concluding, One could say "it takes two to tango"...albeit the origin of the tango is not in Brussels, Strasburg or Dublin.
