During our 7 day road trip, we visited numerous locations, ghost towns and hotels. None have quite compared to the old charm and elegance of the Mizpah Hotel in Tonopah, NV.
Built in 1907, the Mizpah was once the tallest building in the state of Nevada. Today it stands as a historic hotel decorated with Victorian-style wallpaper and furnishings and trimmed in beautiful shades of gold and red. The hallways are dimly lit and lend heavily to the Old West atmosphere. You can truly put yourself back in the time of the hotel's heyday and imagine how luxurious this place once must have been.
Our room was pleasant with a queen sized bed, small television and closet, drawers and attached bathroom. Everything was clean with none of that old historic hotel smell that often accompanies old buildings over time. And the view from our room, Room 510, was spectacular! A corner room with windows on two walls and a view of the town with snow-capped mountains in the distance. It doesn't get much better!
The hotel does have a history of paranormal activity, especially the nearby room 512, however, during our stay all was quiet.
If supernatural spirits aren't your style, there is a beautiful bar and lounge downstairs to have a cocktail. The hotel also houses the Pittman Cafe, a casual sit-down restaurant offering American style breakfasts and dinners.
During our stay in Tonopah, we also checked out some nearby sights that we have seen in other RUclips videos.
First up was the World Famous Clown Motel. While we didn't stay here during our visit, the staff are friendly and allow visitors to enter (and even photograph or film!) the front office which serves as a museum. Explaining the amount of clown figures, dolls and art cannot possibly do justice to the size of this collection. The room is simply packed with clowns in every space available. It has to be seen to be believed!
And if the clowns aren't scary enough for you, there is an old cemetery next door... literally feet away from the motel. The Old Tonopah Cemetery was used in the early 1900s when Tonopah's silver mining activity started to boom. Many of the people interred in the Cemetery were pioneers of the town and casualties of mining - including the Belmont Mine Fire of 1911 which claimed 17 miners.
Tonopah's rich history was truly fascinating to us and a place we can't wait to come back to.

I love Tonopah and I love the Clown Motel. I've stayed there twice but never saw a ghost. Much less a clown ghost. It looks like they may have fixed it up a bit since I was there. The last time I stayed there were no clown paintings in my room! So I drew two clowns and gave them to the front desk when I left. I was hoping to see them in your video but either you didn't catch them or they didn't make the cut lol
Thanks for the video
Awesome! We still think it would be a unique opportunity to stay there one day and is on our list. I wonder if they put the drawings in one of the rooms? I imagine they must get plenty of clown donations. How can you not? 😂 Thanks for watching!
just got back from Tonopah.....we made the trip strictly to see the stars......the sky was beautiful.....very bright....great for stargazing.
Even for stars a very worthy trip. 😊
Great job Glenn
Ive seen these places on TV and got to drive through the other day as a trucker heading from Reno to Phoenix. So cool!!! Got a couple clown motel souvenirs. Unfortunately i couldn't park this truck anywhere near the mizpah but the clown motel and cemetery had a paych of dirt i could park fir a few minutes 😊.
That's so awesome! I imagine it made for a fun place to rest and stretch out a bit. 😄
@@CactusAtlas oh I wish I could have but sadly it was just a pit stop. Some day I will though. I just kind of parked on the shoulder in the dirt. Had to keep her rolling that day.
We spent exactly 1/2 hour at the clown motel. It was SCARY! Not because of ghosts, but because it was filthy, unclean, unsanitary...I don't know how many more ways I can communicate how trashy and disgusting it is.
Stay at the Mizpah. As you said, it is awesome and way creepier than the clown motel.
Well, we're both non-believers so no issues there. I'm sorry your experience was so poor. We've seen a number of videos that do not show these conditions. That said, the pull of the Mizpah is pretty great so you know... 🤷♀️
I live near Elko Nevada. Never heard of the Clown motel. I’m staying in Tonopah tonight for a business trip (mining). I’m staying at the Mitzpah. Great video! Thanks for making this.
Hope your stay at the Mitzvah is a great one. It's such a unique hotel and one of our favorites!
I'm coming out from Maine to go mining. Any tips? Looking for an opal for my son.
Unfortunately this is not something we've done and have no info on it.
@@jenniferg6818 I’m a geomechanical engineer for Kinross Gold Corp, but have never done any Opal mining. I understand there are small private mines that you can rock hound at for a daily fee. The only tip I have is be prepared for daily temperature swings … it can get quite cold in the central and northern parts of the state.
Wow ! Cool town.
It is, isn't it? It's kind of hard to believe that there are still people who live there as it's so quiet outside of traffic going straight through.
This was great. I’m from Las Vegas and now I’m considering making a trip up to tonopah to check those places out.
Awesome! It's definitely a neat town. We'd love to explore it more in the future ourselves. Lots of places we didn't have time to check out there too.
I've heard of the Clown Motel, I'm debating whether to stay there the day before I stay at Mizpah later this month.
Love the old hotel and the stories with it. Thanks for sharing the stories of this place. My son was glued to the entire video😀
We had a great time making this! Thanks for watching! So happy to hear your son liked it!
That was cool. Heard about the 🤡 motel through that show with the host that's scared of clowns
Haha! That clown motel, I think, has been on many haunted shows as well as RUclips videos.
(But I know the show you're speaking of and we've watched it too. 😊)
‘This must be the Jack Dempsey room’. How could you tell?? Lol. Cool place.
It is a really cool place. Was back there a little over a month ago. One of my favorites!
That's an awesome place. We went many time in Vegas, never really visited Nevada
Thanks! Tonopah is a really awesome place. We hope to explore it more in the future!
@@CactusAtlas Looks pretty awesome yeah
Hey this is Jim live in Las Vegas been there many times stayed at the same Hotel you're staying at never the Clown never had time but have been to the cemetery across from there a few times I'll walk it anyways been to a few ghost towns and Nevada I've lived here all my life
Glenn has stayed at the Mizpah numerous times. One of his favorites. 😄
We were just in Tonopah a couple weeks ago, we heard about the clown hotel but once I read up on it we decided to stay elsewhere! We did drive back in the morning to get some photos of the hotel and cemetery.
The Clown Hotel wouldn't be our top pick (especially with the Mizpah being so awesome!) but still feel compelled to stay there at least once. 😅
@@CactusAtlas Don't do it, LOL
My grandpa used to take me to breakfast at Mizpah
Im surprised to see snow? I thought this area was lower elevation. I must admit, I have heard of that clown motel... I have a guilty pleasure... Im a big fan of ghost adventures.. and they did an episode there...😂😂😂 .. I dont think I would stay there.. but maybe for a RUclips video! 👍
Ok, I admit it. We totally watch those shows too, and I’ve seen the one you are talking about.
I don’t think you or I can call ourselves true RUclipsrs until spending the night at the Clown Motel lol.
Actually, Tonopah is a little over 6000 feet I think.
Anyway, I can’t wait to go back because I left so much unexplored, and of course to earn Clown Motel RUclips cred (even though the place seems a little dingy).
@@CactusAtlas hahaha lol... that would be an adventure!! I always leave wanting to go back...😀
@@CactusAtlas yes I've heard it's dingey but I'm mostly debating based on if it's really haunted or not...I've heard more "not". But like you, I kind of want the YT cred for staying somewhere Zak peed his pants over his clown phobia.
Awesome video. New subscriber
Awesome thank you!

Love the clown motel, definitely heard of it, will stay there one day for sure!
Yeah, I am disappointed I didn’t on this trip, but had to choose between the Mizpah or the Clown motel. But, I will be back one day for sure!
I would stay there but The Mizpah Hotel seems much more comfortable
The Mizpah is a great place. We've been several times since fiilming this video. 😄
Looks intriguing! Planning a trip to Zion and I may get through that area on the way. Your delivery reminds me a bit of Adam the Woo. Thanks for sharing!
I’m a huge fan of Adam so I take that as a compliment! Thanks for dropping by!
That was really informative, enjoyed it.
Glad to hear it! Thanks for checking it out. 😄
Awesome content man. Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much! We're happy you enjoyed it. 😄
Drive by every time we trip to Nevada but never stopped by😭
It's a really beautiful hotel. They did such a wonderful job restoring and updating it. One of our favorites! 😊
The Brewery is just across the street and down the block from the Mizpah...
I look forward to your videos. No thank you on the overnight stay at the Clown motel.
Why thank you, and I don’t blame you about the hotel. If and when I do go back, I will probably have to stay for the sake of this channel, so you all can see how I fare when I do... 😂😂😂
I'm from Tonopah I know her very well
I can’t wait to visit again! One of my favorite places of 2020.
BRO MIZPAH HOTEL WAIT WHAT THAT IS THE MOST HAUNTED HOTEL IN AMERICA!!
😅 A lot of hotels seem to make that claim. Though we enjoy a good ghost story, neither Glenn nor I are really believers.
Won't catch me at the Clown Motel but if you go I'll watch it. 😀
Haha! Well we'll have to go for sure one day!
The clown hotel looks creepy don’t think I would stay there.
Haha! They certainly take the clown theme to the max, don't they? 😂
Ihave a friend there.. in belvada hotel. Mizpah Tony Taylor
Is the Belvada haunted?
Never bet more than you can afford to lose.
Grandpa
Maximum Sunlight by Meagan Day and Hannah Klein is a worthy body of literature on Tonopah, Nevada.
Interesting! Hadn't heard of the book but just looked it up and read a review of it. Might have to check it out if I come across it. Do they mention much about the history of the town or is pretty much just about modern Tonopah and its residents?
@@CactusAtlas Hi,
The book Maximum Sunlight is a journalistic work on the working class, common sense, contemporary people of Tonopah, Nevada. The military, mining and topography history is added for good measure. I considering buying an off roader and a house in this town. Fun Times!
Best
Those pics ain't spooky. You don't smile because of the exposure time.
Somewhere in nevada…
Sounds pretty expensive for one king size room.
Actually, in addition to being historic, it's cheaper than large named chain hotels in the same area.
It's the pizzeria motel.
That motel is haunted.
Tiky
Rizzeria.
