Hi Gary, as a biker myself Iv picked up a few tips from other bikers on my trips abroad ,particulary Fance which I have done a good few over the years. Only take one bag up to your cabin ,enough for overnight on ferry leave rest on the bike the ships crew are always very good and below decks is secure CCTV etc... Keep keys around your neck and always carry a spare. Enjoy, Barry
Hi Barry, Thats good to know. I have updated my bag system so for future ferries I think it will go a little smoother.. well hopefully! Great tip on the keys around the neck, I will look out for a necklace piece for that.
i am looking to buy this bike and randomly looked the review you did for this bike...since then i follow every video you make and i feel like i am in this journey with you and i somehow feel like i already own this bike with you...hope the best for you my friend... waiting for the next video like nothing else in the world... greetings from Greece
Nice Videos. Subscribed. I am a relatively new biker and not done much travelling on the continent or anywhere else for that matter. So watching with interest and picking up a few tips... A key lanyard seems to be a must......
Hi Gary, wish you a nice and safe world travel. I also like the way you produce your videos. Keep up with the good work and thank you for the free content! Good luck! Greeting from Stuttgart, Germany!
Hey Gary, I have an old Australian 2002 GSA I keep in France for riding Europe, one thing I have learnt from riding there is when approaching the tolls, look up at the signs, some display card only some have a "coins" image. I usually stay over to the right of the booths as there is time and space to stop before entering if need be and your not holding everyone else up taking your gloves off and on etc to use the toll machine. Like the lady advised, I also usually have a small kit bag sorted for ferry travel with passport, wallet, phone, toiletries etc maybe new t shirt and shorts before I ride onto the ferry, then you just grab that and leave everything else with the bike. I may have been fortunate but I have never had anything stolen from my bike whilst using various ferries.
Hi Glen, Yeah it is learning to trust this. I have never taken so much stuff so I didn't know what to take or not take. Every day is a school day! I think the next time I will be a little more prepared with a smaller bag like you said :)
I was interested in kove bike, but nov im watching every single of your video. Im based in Cork myself, and I love visiting Cobh as it is truly scenic town. Best luck.
So far so good Gary, Cobh looked so good sailing out, very pretty place. Loved that your step father accompanied you to the port, nice touch. Could you tell me what gloves you are wearing , look goos and comfortable. I assume they are waterproof. It would be interesting to have a rundown on what you have taken with you and how your feelings along the journey as to whether you brought too much or omitted something you should have brought along. I realise that you are a well travelled motorcyclist so you have probably already been through al that previously. Loving following the journey .
Thanks very much for the comment. Sure, in a few videos time I will make a video of what I have brought with me including the gear and tools I have brought with me and what I think so far. Regarding the gloves, they are "Revit Caliber Moto Gloves". They are not waterproof but where I am going with the heat, ventilation took priority for me. I have heated grips installed for when I am at high elevations in the cold. I didn't want to carry a spare pair of winter gloves due to available space so lets see how it work out. Glad to have you along for the journey :)
Another great video Gary,in 2013 on the ferry from Ireland to France same thing happened me with the keys, searched everywhere...Eventually found them...Below deck in the lock of the topbox..lesson Learned...
Nice ! That key thing already happened to me, now i have a ring on my motorcycle jacket and i always clip them on when i am not driving, so i never loose them again ! I have seen somewhere kove made already an update for that jerky throttle, have you asked kove about it ? Can’t wait for the 800x pro and rally to be released in France to test ride it ! Cheers from France ☔️
Thanks Jonathan! I am now non the road so getting anything shipped to me is difficult. However, there is a guy in Argentina who said he can remap it for me so I may end up doing this. In traffic the jerky is fine when I can free up my hand to feather the clutch but when I am off road and need the hand on the grip more I think it may be troublesome then so I may have to remap. I am going to sort something for the keys. I am not going through that again haha
Good on you for keeping your patience with those poor women. Enjoying your adventure on the Kove 800. Be interested in your opinion whether the larger bike was the right choice once you get to South America. The tubeless tires and the lower seat-height (than the Kove 450 Rally) makes it tempting, and wonder if that is worth the trade of the added weight versus the lightness of the 450. Has to be more comfortable than the 450. Losing the keys is every biker's bane.
Hi Michael, Yeah, it was pretty close between the 450 and 800 for me. The "high" seat height isn't as bad also as the seat is thinner so the lower leg finds the ground easily. I went 800 in the end after sitting on both of them and thought it was more suitable for me as its a combination of on road and off road. I think the perfect sweet spot will be the 800 Rally which is in-between them as it has shedded even more weight! Yes, the key situation was not fun haha
Motorcycle keys have the ability to move through space time in a similar way to 10 mm sockets. Do you think there is a way to tweak the throttle response, or will that be a software update. Safe travels.
Haha. All that was going on in my head was "this cannot be happening"! I am getting used to feathering it with the clutch but I am concerned for when off road and I do not have the comfort and opportunity to feather the clutch due to road conditions and needing the grip handlebars. So I may get the ECU remapped, there is a guy in Argentina who said he can do it for me so we will see :)
What jacket you got on Gaz? How was the bike cruisin bein so new? Hopefully, we get the rally version in March, so lookin forward to that. Safe travels an leave the older women alone! There trouble mate! 😂😂😂😂😂 Stay safe, ride well bud. 🏍️🏍️👍👍🙏🙏🇬🇧🇬🇧
Haha. It is the Alpinestar Hyde XT Drystar®XF Jacket. It fits with the airbag I have on so is a bit stretchy. It is not fully waterproof though but is fine for weather conditions seen in the video. So far the bike is doing well, No issues so far!
I dunno? 5 mins in France an you already pulled mate😂😂😂😂❤❤❤ must be luv😂😂😂🏍️🏍️ how you doin? Hope your enjoying gettin off the island 🏝️ an moochin in France.🏍️🏍️👍👍🙏🙏🇬🇧🇬🇧
Hi Rory, thanks for the comment. I am glad it is getting the attention it deserves. The more I drive it the more I like it. I have a video coming out Saturday and finally fix the headlights!
Im down in south east of france, east of Lyon, if you get in any bother while passing through. Make sure you look up the Priorite a droite rule of the road in France or you could easily get taken out by a french driver, its lethal... know the sign, its a black X inside a red triangle, and if you see an adjoining (major or minor) road with no line across the end of their lane (like a stop line or yield line) be ready to give way because they'll just keep going and the rule applies whether theres a sign post or not, most of the time theres not. Good luck or 'bon courage' as they say here 👍
Hey . I am planning to buy a Kove 800x Turing and I came across your channel looking for a review of this motorcycle :) It's fun to watch your videos , but it would be even more fun if the episodes were longer. :) Greetings from Poland
Hey, glad to have you following from Poland 🇵🇱 Glad you like them, I am still learning how to use editing software and is taking me quite a bit of time to make these so I think they will get a little longer as I get better at making them ✌️
i can imagine mind boiling :-D :-D being polite with grannies that are lost in modern world :-D :-D don't forget that we say thank you to cars in traffic jams for their nice moves. :-P This is why they accepted naturally to leave way. Here in marseille it works the same, but if you do ride with 9 mm in on hand and AK in the other :-P Looking forward to see the next one :-P
Yeah I tried to wave when I could but the jerky throttle kept both my hands so I was doing the "leg dangle" thanks! I won't be going to Marseille anytime soon then 😂
Gday Gary, I'm slightly anal retentive when it comes to losing things, I keep my wallet, phone and keys in the same place always, I'm happy to say it's instinct now and I've never lost any of them, saves me having to think about them too. On the other hand, my wife loses / misplaces the keys every other day, i've even found them in the fridge ..! 🤣
Good point Mick. All the gear and bike is new so I am still picking up habits as there is currently a lot of "faffing". I will have to standardise the locations of stuff but at least I haven't left anything in the fridge yet though 😂
Hi Gary, Great videos, I was expecting you to have lost your ticket when it was your turn to pass through the barrier. Do you ever get distracted by the screens on the bike ?
Hey Danny, Losing the keys had me extra sharp for the rest of the day 😉 No they don't distract me. In fact they are too low and I am missing information and turnoffs. The sat nav will be moved once I get a new part and will put it "above" the TFT/Speedometer.
So polite mate, in Greece I would just pass through 😂😂. How about the throttle is it manageable ? Is there any fix? Last but not least how tall are u ?
Haha, I had an entire ferry politely waiting for me so I thought I would pass it on! The throttle is now fine in traffic for me, but I am concerned when off roading so I am thinking of getting it remapped. There is a guy in Argentina said he can do it so I may take him up on the offer. I am 5ft 9. Comfortably flat footing both feet with the bike.
I am using the Garmin zūmo XT2. It is very good. However, I want to move its position up to above the TFT display. However the mount I got is not suitable so need to arrange another one.
@@GarysJourneyYTI’ve bought some accesories for my V-Strom at “Cosmo Accesories” included a high mount gps holder. Maybe they have something for your bike? 😊
The French lady had lost her ticket. She wasn't scolding you. And you hadn't pulled. She just didn't want you stuck behind her. I speak okay French, my Finnish is pretty good but useless outside of Finland, but before I go to any country, I learn some stock phrases. Hello, sorry, thank you, do you speak English, where are the toilets, please (no word for please in Finnish) and a few others. I can also swear impressively in French and spoken Finnish which has come in handy. If you're on Spotify they have loads of "get by in" language of your choice. I'd give them a go. Just a few words opens a lot of doors. In your job, especially with Danes and Nordics, everyone under about 70 speaks English, but a vocabulary of 50 words, pointing and smiling goes a long way. I'm usually the tw@t in a right hand drive van clogging up the gare de péage or fannying about with gloves and bike keys looking for my ticket.
Good to know! I was spending such a little amount of time in France that I didnt learn anything, however, I have been learning a little bit of Spanish for South America and practicing daily. Good tip to use Spotify. Agreed, Tolls and motorbikes are always a pain. haha. especially when raining with cold hands!
Yeah they are not fun. There was another toll where my ticket wouldn't work exiting the motorway. Luckily there was no one behind me so I reversed the bike out and went into another toll where it worked. Not cool!
France has barrier free tolls, with a bit of preparation there is no need to ship at the péage. Mind you only a fool uses the autoroute when motorcycling in France.
You really should have changed the oil in Ireland, doing it on your second day was a really bizarre idea. Such a shame you took the autoroute, that was a wasted opportunity. I think you need to improve your planning and preparation skills.
