    I believe Nate “Tiny” Archibald is still the only player in NBA history to lead the league in scoring and assists in the same season-‘72-73 that was.

    At the Madhouse on McDowell, Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The Suns' sponsor, First National Bank of Arizona, became First Interstate Bank and then Wells Fargo.

    Very entertaining game, with good ball movement and a decent amount of defense for an all-star game. Walt Frazier had a spectacular game for the East, and Nate Archibald stood out for the West.

    Ball movement, defense (haven't seen that past 10 yrs in ASG!), hustle, teamwork. More like a playoff game today.

    This was such an in-between year for the NBA. Just two years later, Doc and Ice were on the NBA scene. Five years, Bird and Magic. McAdoo was such a game-changer here. Big that could shoot and handle.

    You are right, Manny. In the mid 70's Barry was the best, most complete player in the game. And he carried a young, unsung team to a title no one could have predicted,.

    Thanks for this, rare stuff.
    Full of great players and plays but Frazier, Archibald, Barry and even McAdoo really stand out on this one.

      He sure was. It all came together for Rick in mid 70's for a period of time. Paid off in a title in 75'. A joy to watch and a true superstar who looked for his teammates.

    At 24:05 Musburger comments on a pretty girl in the stand, don't just go to college football games. I believe he was the one who commented a couple years ago at an Alabama game about the quarterbacks girl friend in the stands looks. at least he is consistent :)

    • @fwb41
      @fwb41 8 лет назад +1

      +J McClain He was always commenting on pretty girls in the stands...as if guys in TV Land didn't have eyes of their own...it wasn't so bad back in the 70s, when he was in his 30s...but that incident that you mentioned at the college bowl game...when he was an Old Man...was pathetic and ridiculous. Maybe he didn't have confidence with women, so he had to compensate by panting at pretties in the stands...who knows?

    Miss the old suns arena--small(by 2day"s standards),but nice & cozy layout,doesn't feel too small & cramp even if it's not actually big.

    No Dr J, George Gervin, David Thompson, or Dan Issel in this game, still in the ABA.

    Young fans today probably wouldn't/couldn't believe this was the an All Star game. The way ASG's used to be. They would probably think this was a playoff game with the hustle, determination and intensity.

    At the time not all these NBA All Stars were celebrities or even made a lot of money. So playing hard in a All Star game meant alot more. Players of today have had notoriety since they were playing AAU before they were even teenagers. We create a society then complain about how the kids grow up to be adults in it.

    • @92463mike
      @92463mike 10 лет назад +1

      Always contradict ourselves. Just like when the media says one minute, 'kids should stay in school', then say 'they should leave and take the money'! Dick Vitale was famous for that!

      They played the game then. Offense and defense. Today it's easy lobs, take seconds to shoot an uncontested 3. NO DEFENSE AT ALL.

    Yea, Tiny was just really exciting to watch, had many tricks in the bag and could shoot, score and pass.
    Frazier was even better on this one though, just hitting shot after shot, 30 pts giving the East the W.

      True. They really went at it back then. Good D, went for loose balls, competed. Today they get out of the way on D.

      +Mick A Only time NBA players got a pass for not playing any defense in an All Star game was when Vince Carter was in his absolute prime. Defenders got out the way on purpose just because they wanted to see his dunks up close.

    • @Amick44
      @Amick44 9 лет назад

      +Tamentonen Hageshi Sorry, but not the case. They did the same for McGrady as well. And many others the past 20 yrs. Very little (defensive) resistance today and recent time. That wasn't the case in the 90's and before.
