- @PeteAndHisBus made my day in the previous video, when I got to drive RML2355. This time, we look at the conversion work done to that bus, listen to an AEC Routemaster engine and play with a Grey Ferguson tractor and Honda Motocompo because we couldn't help ourselves. In short, Pete is ace and you should go and subscribe to his channel at once.

Anyone who says Pete has "ruined his bus" is frankly, in my opinion a fool! You couldn't wish for a more sympathetic and respectful conversion. I'm in awe. There used to be another specialist Routemaster channel on RUclips, but sadly it has recently gone quiet, leaving Pete to supply us RM addicts with our regular fixes. Here's an idea, Ian. How about a Hubnut bus? That would be fab fun! Anyway thank you again for such an informative in depth video.
Route master for hire? He quit and went off sailing around the world. Pity cause it was a good channel.
Pete Never ever ruined it, he did the best thing ever and re-invented it's role in the world.
Vehicles survive a lot better if they are in regular use and thats a lot easier if they still have a decent purpose to be used for. A weekend toy can fill that requirment but the storage, maintinance and running costs on a large vehicle like a bus is comparable to a pritty exotic car so you’d need deep pockets if its not working for its keep.
The weddings and private charters market aint gonna be able to keep that many of them going so this is an excelent use!
I too was a fan of that other channel but Petes is superb and deserves many many more followers.
Hi I’ve got to admit when I saw the bus on the thumb nail, I wasn’t really that excited even though my grandad was a bus driver for many years, but I have to admit these 2 bus videos are two of my most favourite Hubnut videos now, you’ve excelled here Ian. Pete has got a great collection and apart from the bus his hoard of stuff reminds me of mine. As well as my cars and vans I own many old mopeds mainly Puch Maxi’s also I have a fordson dexta tractor which I was considering selling, but seeing Peters tractor in action it has reminded me of the fun that can be had, so I’m very tempted to keep it now. Once again brilliant video thanks 🙂👍
Wow this guy is like a kid in his own sweet shop , really interesting collection .Makes a change from cars .He is proud of his vehicles , and shows his enthusiasm .
Cheers Farmer Ian .
Pete’s enthusiasm is infectious…. Love the Pete and his bus series.
Thanks to Pete for starting the AEC-engined bus. The sound took me back to my childhood and teenage years when i lived near Hounslow Garage. So evocative. And I *was* telling the screen "yes, I want to hear the AEC!!"
Passion and enthusiasm by the buses load! 👍👍👍😁😁😁
Old bus, old tractor, compo
And Pete seems like very cool person!
WOW Ian those engines sounded glorious. Made me smile.
Well, it took several years and 100k subscribers, but the most unexpected thing happened. No, not the busses or the tractor, but Mr.HubNut showing an interest in and actually riding a motorbike. This was a surprise considering he has on more than one occasion stated his non-interest in things two-wheeled. Amusingly, my old Kawasaki quad's handbrake worked in exactly the same way as the one on the tractor. Simple and effective.
I quite like foot operated handbrakes, why they were not taken up by many modern cars is beyond me.
Great to see you having a bit of fun on two wheels for once, Ian! Your knowledge of bikes has increased after that: The 6 words, 'I don't know anything about them.' now have 6 more added to them, 'But they can be great fun!' Which doubles your knowledge base. 🤣👍
Great to see two fellas with such a passion!! Ian and Pete (especially Pete) like a pair of excited school kids! Love it….. Oh and Health & Safety…..has its uses in some places…..but is largely a means of legislation attempting to prevent people with no common sense from hurting themselves…. 😂😂😂
Smokin! Brilliant😀I remember jumping on and off these buses as a kid, no H&S back then.
What a great day for you Ian ,I have been watching pete for quite some time now and enjoyed all of them
To get to have a drive of one of his buses i would love to 😂😂👍👍
When I was young I worked in a place that had two lorries, an AEC Mandator and an ERF with a Gardiner engine. The ERF made one of the finest engine noises I have ever heard - and it was far more reliable than the AEC.
The first vehicle I ever drove was a grey Fergie, the TVO variant that you started with petrol until it was warm and it had an under slung exhaust.
ERF cheated by getting an outside engine. Was it the LW? They do sound among the best diesels anywhere. Reliable and great sounding.
If you have the space you can make your hobby big!
Glad these buses are being kept alive.
Brilliant collaboration with Pete & Ian, the sound of an old diesel bus, reminds me of bus rides as a kid & the smell of diesel fumes on a cold winters morning!
What a great idea for a bar on a bus. You don't have to worry about drinking and driving. Get on, have some drinks and then he can leave you near your house.
Learnt to drive on a little grey Fergie aged 12. A tvo one so a tad easier to start (on petrol changing to the oil when hot) than a diesel but always on the handle as battery wouldn't hold a charge for long. She'd had a hard life and was then on light duties. Yard sweeping and the run to the village shop or the pub for the farmers tobacco and whisky over the fields.
Brilliant guys and gal. Great job. A treat for all involved.
As a subbie to both channels this was a delightful and unexpected collaboration.
That 590 is sweet as ever and the puff of smoke coming from the manifold added to it. The more patina the better, no need to silver it please. I could isten to it purring that fascinating visceral note at 1500 for hours. Not a motor, an instrument!
Should have given Pete a drive of Betty the Fairmont. I'd have loved to see his reaction.
Loved that. I've never wanted a bike as much as that beauty!
Mad as a box of frogs but incredibly cool, great video, thank you to all.
Looked some old pictures of RML 2355, looks like it had a green livery in some time of its life.
Yes, started green for London Country service.
@@HubNut LT bought most of the LCBS ones back as they had run out of spares/spare parts.
Both of you guys are "delightfully bonkers" (Pete (or Compo) just got a new sub!) 🤣🤣
Love the bike what a legend
Fantastic video Ian , your face said it all how happy you looked on that tractor. Was nice to see miss hubnut there to enjoying the fun day . Thank you for sharing your experience
That guy goes to "work" happy every day :D Nicely done.
this video is brilliance from start to finish, the tractor awoke many good memories - my grandpa had a good old fergie with a perkins diesel engine, many hours spend riding on that.
I use to go to school in the 60s in a routemaster bus and we went to the red bus station skid pan on a school trip that was fun doing a 180 skid no health and safety in the 60s 😂
My Cousin who was one year younger than me (I was 8)when he taught me to drive on a Grey Fergie out on our Fathers Farm ( 4 Brother ownership). That Clutch seemed Massive to me.
Lol his enthusiasm utterly 110%! Not too far from myself in Lytham in the North West is a similar promo bus of Bowland Brewery of Clitheroe. Came to a vehicle weekend at Lytham Hall a few years ago, couple of photos on Google and I can confirm the beers travelled well! 🍻🍻🤔🤭😀
My goodness😯😉😁 that felt like a totally 'new' Hubnut... Pete's energy seems to have rubbed off on you😇😉 nice one, a bit of extra pazazz is great.. keep up the great work Hubnut crew, that really worked👍 now i can't wait for the next one to see if the 'pazazz'😉 sticks....
#hubnut
@hubnut
What an Awesome Guy!
I love the sound of that original Routemaster engine and RM/RML's in general as I used to travel to work on them many years ago. I've got to say what a great character Pete is. A very interesting guy. Great video too.
I used to live opposite Bexleyheath Bus Garage aged 6 and was forced to hear them 'being worked on' late and into the wee small hours, lots of percussive maintenance and then someone would strike it up having fixed it at 1am. No wonder why I was asthmatic!
The AEC engine brought backs loads of child hood memory's, as said yesterday my dad drove them, and one of my best is taking them down to south coast; took ages but was a lot of fun. i was about 4-5 years old at the time (im 45 now)and the sound of that AEC at full revs was brilliant. Thank you Ian for 2 fantastic videos. Just throwing this idea out there, but what about using Pete and his bus at your wedding reception.
We hired RMC4 (Green Line one) to go to Brighton to Visit The Engineerium one evening. Coming into Brighton people at Bus Stops kept putting their hands out to board it (Despite it not being in Southdown Green or Brighton Corporation Blue.
Great videos guys! So happy to see one of my other favorite channels collaborating with you Ian! Pete makes some awesome content too! :D
Would be fun to see another collab between you two sometime, you're definitely kindred spirits! Waiting to see your Invacar show up at the start of one of Pete's videos now! ;)
Great video of bus and both of you guys
Lol love Pete's bus channel, if I'm down and his video pops up he cheers me up 🙂
Compo actually said, ha ha ya cant wiper test me 🤭
Congrats again Hub family 👏👏👏
Weird echoes of "Summer Holiday" ... 🤣🤣(sadly I remember this when it first came out!)
What a GRAND IDEA!
Well done Pete. Its great to see a novel use for an old routemaster. Can I recommend a fun but serious message you could put on it. Don't drink and drive you'll spill it no seriously don't. You will kill someone.
Fantastic , love the video and love the buses, takes me back to when I was child.
Pete is a nice guy very generous with his knowledge.
Great video, you can't beat old busses . Summer Holiday tastic ....Reg Varney would be proud...Best wishes. Top stuff .
RM2023 was one of a small batch of central area RMs fitted with the bigger AEC AV690 engine and was new to my old garage, Victoria.
This is a "grin a minute" video! Great stuff!
Superb fun, used tohave a little grey fergie, had to start it with a screwdriver across the starter motor points, then it would chug along all day. Also went back and forth to school on a green route master for years, a route number 273 in Taunton. Strange how you never forget things like that.
In Taunton that would have been a Bristol Lodekka of some kind.
Hubnut you had a great day riding a small motorcycle and driving a furgie tractor restored and what a nice chap is Pete and his collection of motor vehicles is eclectic to the max
9:26 an AEC 505 in a rear engine Swift with no exhaust was started in front of me and it sounded horrible when idling but when revving at 1500 rpm like here, it was sublime. Wish I had a recorder at hand.
My Dads initials may be on the back axle of some of these buses as he was the factory inspector where they were made.
First vehicle I properly drove was a wee grey Fergie on my Granda's farm in Northern Ireland when I was 9.
I am all for keeping it original nice job keeping the original motor in the AEC. Lovely history, love these buses, should have kept them in service, to hell with these emission laws. Funny how its called compo, in Aussie slang its short for compensation.
What a hoot!,
Great video, what a lark.
I must admit I was wincing a bit when Ian went zooming past that beautifully painted bus on the tiny motorbike 🙈, but he managed to avoid it
Compo is awesome
Awesome video it looked so much fun.
Two of my favourite channels in one lol
Fantastic. What an amazing collection
Lovely. We have some old Buses here ranging from the 20's(Lincoln/Cadillac/Packard/ACF..) right up to the 1990's(Neoplean/MCI/Geelie..) just sitting around doing nothing. 🚌🚃🚎🚌 There's also lots of Locomotives, Trolleys and some trackless 🚎 Trolleys. Good Video for sure Ian👍.
As a random aside (was going to say this on the other vid, but didn't!) I remember having to explain to someone what a "Bus Bulb" was seeing those LED replacements there on the Bar bus, and it was a hilariously simple explainaiton (and they seemed to get it, I think!), they're bulbs, for vintage buses, cos you can still find 12 & 24v bus bulbs today, and I find them to be adorabulbs, cos they're so small with that standard sized bayonet cap on the end... :P
A talented rider too…impressed💪😁👍
That was fun!!! Should drive Compo in a bus!
Brilliant episode.
Doesn't matter what people do to these old routemasters as long as they are keeping them going 👍 hats off to them😀
I'm off to check out Pete and his Bus 👍
Enjoy, Pete has an awesome channel as well - been subscribed to him for ages now, so much enthusiasm and genuine care for all these old beasts! :D
A fun day with Mr Sonneveld and his collection. Can’t beat a bit of old vehicle action. Do have to wonder what’s with the little Plaxton Embassy hiding at the back?
Ha..! 'Compo' made me Giggle.
In Aust. Compo means Workers Comlensation.
As in if you injure yourself at Work, so you still get some sorta wage..!
So being 'On Compo'
has a different meaning completely...!
The Fact Compo talks back is Brill.
Good Video yet again. Thx Guys..!! 😎
The Bar is set high on this. Well done.
Big boys and their toys!!! And what a man cave!!! I think we all need a lie down after all that excitement.
I'm sure Bill Owen would have approved of his namesake moped!
Great video.
Well done.
Bustastic! I'd already watched Pete's channel but I do have some catching up to do. What a great day you had Ian, bet you were buzzing afterwards.
The awesome Pete and Compo, behaving himself for change! LoL
Now Pete needs to come and drive your Invacar!
Think that turning a bus into a bar is a great idea
What a day out! All your Christmases must have come at once - 😁😁
Did not really want to watch this!!! But it turns out to be one of the best ones you have ever made. Great content hubbynutty! keep this up and you mat be able to retire in 35yrs or so.
Love Petes buses and subbed to his channel.
in the 60's, we went to school on the bus with the open back door, but i thought the bonnet was rounded. someone help me. then in high school we had the squarer busses with the pneumatic doors at the front. cant mind how much, but on the primary school bus it was 3d. jesus. thanks for the video , boys oh and the camera lady?, carly? xxxx
Great video. 👍
Awesome video and Pete has me as a subscriber now as well. For some reason I think he should play Basil's son in the new Fawlty Towers too - can't get the idea out of my head!
Another great one!
Grey Fergies are awesome.
Surely the little Honda should be called William Simmonite? Kudos folks if you get the connection.
Absolutely love " Pete and his bus " channel . Had no idea he was 6'6 and wonder what his shoe size is ? His feet look huge !
another great video has always Ian and miss hubnut and hublets and hubmutts 👍
Like a kiddie in a sweetshop.
I'm pretty sure that I saw RML2355 at Petruth Paddocks campsite in Somerset last spring. If not, there must be another very much like it doing the rounds :)
Great video Ian and Pete. Was waiting to hear Blakey saying "I'll ave you Butler!'
Ian, It’s not often I get jealous, but I am now, absolutely brilliant. Hope you really😃 enjoyed it
Fond memories of Routemasters and RT 's, they do have a distinctive sound from engine and gearbox, plus the ding-ding of the bell!
Is Hubnut a closet Busnut?
the Imber bus rally is everything Routemaster and more, runs every year on the Salisbury plains.
Is that a so Hubnut idea 💡 Ian
I've followed Pete for a while - videos are always good.
When your interest becomes your job or mission in life cant get better than this
What a playground! Awesome! 💥🤗💥
Ian! you have to get a bus!!
Hubnut on 2 wheels, and enjoyed it!
Great content, I follow Pete and his Bus, he's a very clever guy and his videos are very entertaining, informative and funny
Pete is good with his hands. He's a jack of all trades.
Lovely old diesels
Just noticed the Bedford J2 minicoach at the back with Plaxton bodywork....just subscribed to pete's channel
Brilliant, such a good vlog, another channel subscribed to, it’s so good vehicles big and small of our past have such passionate and knowledgeable owners
Fantastic video can't say I've watched Pete before but that was brilliant! Definitely checking that out now.
I love the bus bar idea. I do see a lot of them from the bus bar company at various events across the country and they have some interesting other vehicles made into bars and portable restaurants including a Land Rover series 2 long wheelbase in London Transport recovery livery being used as a gin bar.
