My Uncle drove one of these from Aberdeen to London regularly Two days there unload and load up and two days back. I wonder how they got Sprat & Winkle That's the name of a type of coupling used on model railways. Good to see the steam car behaved a lot better this year.
Thoroughly enjoyable, what great adventures and fun. Health the last two years hasn’t helped me, but 2025 I’m on it. AEC Matador will be out and about 👍💪
well that was a lovely video well done Simon winning with his lorry and well done for getting to Brighton this year it all reminded me when i worked on eastern national as a driver taking my family to bus rallies on a bus from Canvey Bus Muesum
What a fun video! I joined the HCVC (as it was then) in the late 1970s as my friend had a single decker AEC bus and I was going to be his co-driver. However, my career meant I left the UK and became just an observer. Great that people like you who know a thing or two about buses are on board. Every success with the continuing work on the famous RML mobile office!
Currently laid up having just had a knee replacement so you got my sympathy with your knee problems Pete, As always a pleasure to watch your videos keep them coming.
I'm amazed at the speed of the steam car how fast were you going. Beautiful video too. Thanks Pete, enjoyed it. I hope your knee is better. Take care and stay safe 🙏
Great to see you made it on the L2B Pete. Me and the kids were at Handcross in the mini and once I mentioned you were probably doing it they kept an eye out for you! Haha. Hope you're well mate.
@PeteAndHisBus awesome! Haha. You without at least one mini just doesn't seem right! Shame the mini L2B is over for now at least (me and Matt did the last one it seems!) Catch up soon.
Have a knee problem from 5 years driving an AEC Reliance coach with a crash 5 speed ZF box and a clutch so heavy it lifted one's bum off the seat, no power steering so 10 hrs a day around London was not a picnic. It was later rebodied for the second time, no mechanical updates but unladen weight up by 500 Kg. Capacity upped from 38 to 53 seats hence the extra weight. Its one saving grace was utterly reliable summer or winter, always instantly started unlike some of the new Leopards. Without power steering it steered in a straight line without constant correction, front tyres lasted twice as long, pleasing the boss.

That was great, thank you. HGV`s do not get the credit they deserve, Loved the old Ford `D Series` remember driving one years ago, 4Cyl Dover engine with round headlights, run like a sack of `Shi1te` so we nicknamed it `Chuggaboom` on the off chance it blew up, Never did though! happier days!!
I’d love a heavy duty Ford D Series or Ford Cargo. I used to see an Atkinson four axle table top in a compound from the train. It had a more square shaped cab but looked 1960s vintage.
Great double declutching, clutch to neutral, then clutch to gear, and the pause between depends on whether you are driving a Gardner, Leyland, AEC, or whatever, I have been there. don't get me on "floating the gears", as the Americans call it, (not using the clutch at all), I have never really mastered it, but very fierce arguments on both sides. I only got as far as, push on the gear lever, release accelerator, gear goes into neutral all by itself by the torque being released. pause. then clutch to gear, Then there is the snatch change, on an "H" pattern gearbox. start off on a hill in first, speed up, pull down on the gear lever, hold the accelerator, then whack down the clutch and release it, the gear lever should shoot back into second and give you a seamless change, done it loads of times successfully, and a few times when it did not go quite right but that's life. ex Army blokes will probably laugh at me and say they never entertained using he clutch.
Just like to ask Peter do you know what happened to the buses what was in the series or even the films they made love your channel subbed age's ago thanks 👍👍👍
VN0 857 Bristol KSW from the first 2 films was around on the preservation scene for a while. Pretty sure the other 3 in the films are gone. 1 of them was destroyed in the making of the 3rd film. I believe a couple of the Lodekkas from the TV show have survived though both exported.
The “whistle” is the car building steam. So when you slow down and it’s got plenty of pressure it stops. As soon as you open the taps it does it. They all do it, they all sound slightly differently and… the sound is actually unexplained… 👍👍

I work in King’s Cross station Can’t believe how popular the candle bus was Thought you might be involved 👍👍👍👍
Yep, people love a good candle apparently
Ahhh, those commercial vehicles take me back to my childhood. Lovely to see them gleaming and still getting around. Great video sir.
Glad you enjoyed it
Still enjoying the videos Pete. Thanks CB
Glad you like them! 👍❤️

Def hope you drive one of your own next year ! Very cool parade of vehicles
That's the plan!

Il mio like per i tuoi video sono sempre d'obbligo, lo meriti. MI auguro di fare un bel viaggio in aereo dalla Sicilia e conoscerti. Ciao
👍👍👍👍
Suttons liveried ERF LV used to be based in my local town in Norfolk, used to see it parked in the garage of it's owners for years.
👍❤️
I’ve been waiting for the veteran car run, and it’s been worth the wait.
thanks
Currently laid up having just had a knee replacement so you got my sympathy with your knee problems Pete, As always a pleasure to watch your videos keep them coming.

Great video Pete, and not a proper bus in sight 😂 Great to see the old trucks, used to drive a few of the not so older ones back in the 80’s.
Glad you enjoyed it
Love the number plate on the old steam car lol
👍👍
They do a historic commercial vehicle run to Brighton as well. I went a few years ago and there was something from every era.
That's right, I'll be taking part in it next year
Amazing
Thanks

No way, need to catch up soon mate. I bought a mine, I’m back in mini land

Hello Pete and his -bus- operations centre.😎

It may be an option for a bus bar lease for one off promotions?

Your original plan of a modular bus isn't that far off from an operations centre.
..
Maybe create a (mobile) internet cafe/bus.
With coffee/barista facilities..?
..
Everyone loves a coffee whilst working...🤔

Hi Pete, Great video... love the little AA 1953 Land-Rover 80" 😮
Me too, it was stunning
Love to be able to do this in my 1975 D series, butI am about 2000 miles away, great to see it, shame the Gardner got drowned out by music.
Thanks for watching
The lorry is stunning! Great video Pete 👌
It really is! Glad you liked it
Interesting moquette on the atkinson drivers seat. looks a little London country bus services for its RTs/RCLs
You are spot on, we had them covered in London Country green moquette
Looks great!
Nice touch or slap right at the end pmsl.
😂😂
I’d love a heavy duty Ford D Series or Ford Cargo.

Enjoyed that Pete 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂❤

This looked amazing, despite the weather. I'm wondering if we have something similar here in Australia for old commercial vehicles
Yep, Haulin’ the Hume
If not, you should!!

Loved the atkinson lorry. Made in lancashire.
👍
You have love a vintage truck, no land speed records but loads of low end grunt.
exactly!
Wat gaaaaaaf! Gewoon met Kompo mee doen!
haha!
The Atki will have had air operated wipers. Single speed on or off
They are electric on this model. No cupholders though
👍👍
Omg you know your getting. Old when you see two types of trucks you have driven in your yoff in a classic truck run 😂😂😂
😂😂👍👍
Who sheeted the Suttons trailer?
no idea.. haha
Just like to ask Peter do you know what happened to the buses what was in the series or even the films they made love your channel subbed age's ago thanks 👍👍👍
On the buses series or films 🤪
Not sure which ones you mean…

Did the whistle blow on the steam car all the way to Brighton after you said it stopped?
The “whistle” is the car building steam. So when you slow down and it’s got plenty of pressure it stops. As soon as you open the taps it does it. They all do it, they all sound slightly differently and… the sound is actually unexplained… 👍👍
@@PeteAndHisBus Ha, thanks for the "explanation".
How do all these Veteran cars get home again, Trailors? Transporters?
Yep
In the classic 50s Movie Genevieve they would drive back the next day. Though there was some artistic licences in the film.
Great old commercials pity about the weather. The Veterans are a credit to the owners and weather was good.
👍👍👍
Evening

Today’s‘Truckers’ don’t know they’re born 🥳

theres no need for a flag runner with this car is there with that whistle constanly blowing it would drive me nuts
