    "T9" is predictive text. Say you want to type "hello", with T9 you'd press 43556. Most dumb phones have an option for predictive text, I wonder if this mudita does too.

    • @goodereader
      @goodereader  23 дня назад +1

      T9 stands for "text on 9 keys"

    • @m4t7eo
      @m4t7eo 23 дня назад +6

      @@goodereader yes, that's correct. It doesn't invalidate what I said. T9 was originally developed by Tegic Communication as a form of predictive text, and licensed to various device manufacturers. The input method which requires multiple presses of the same key is generally called just alphabetic.

    If you think it’s too simple, then it’s not for you. It’s bizarre to call a phone that’s supposed to be as minimal as possible too simple. The price is the real issue. It’s something like 3 times too expensive.

    I rather like it. Many of the limitations actually appeal to me. I might even consider purchasing if it had 5g and I could hotspot reliably.

    Needs voice to text function (Jitterbug has that as well as Alexa, and is only $99). Otherwise texting will be largely receive only as typing even a short phrase takes too long. I'd pay $25 for this phone as a backup say in the car on one of those $8/mo minimum cell phone plans. 99% of my phone usage is talk and text so I would be customer for this if it cost $25.

    Very good review. The point that I like best is it is the first I have seen other than Supernote where they are already planning to abide by the European Court demand that mobile devices have replaceable parts that can be put in by the user easily. So great for that, but the need to type repeatedly on a key to get letters is definitely too much.
    Since your previous 2024 prediction video with Michael Kozlowski was so good, can you do a video about future replaceable batteries and when you might guess that other companies especially Boox will consider accommodating that requirement of the European Court? People would not be so upset with the battery drain of Boox BSR power hungry needs if they felt they could in time just replace an overly used battery that no longer works rather than having to ditch the whole device.

    It looked like it had a dual SIM tray. If it had a hotspot setting, you could connect a more colorful device. But we are somewhere between 1999 and 2003?

    You kept calling it T9 but that's clearly not what's happening here. T9 is predictive text which means you only would have to press a number one time per letter and it would offer suggestions of words you might be trying to spell.

    • @goodereader
      @goodereader  23 дня назад +1

      Technically t9 stands for text on 9 keys, so we are correct. We didn't go as far as to talk about the predictive nature of the typing itself, but we are not incorrect

  • @williamaungleyraud
    @williamaungleyraud 24 дня назад

    Even at half the price I'd have a hart time to justify the price proposition. This is like buying an old Nokia without the nostalgic factor or being indestructible.
    Had this thing had Android, and wifi, and it was sub $150 I could see myself picking it up as a focus phone, or burner even.
    This is legacy tech for the price of a midrange smartphone.
