    Hi! My name is Loretta, a girl from the U.S. who moved to Japan! I'm here on the MEXT scholarship program as a graduate student, studying to get a Masters in Business Administration. Here are some answers to common questions:
    1. Do I Speak Japanese? Yep! I was taught formally in High School and have been speaking now for over 15 years.
    2. What are you studying? I'm a recent grad of Yokohama National University's "Masters of Business Administration" Program
    3. How old are you?: Year of the dragon. :D The math is up to you.
    4. How did you get into Japanese school?: tinyurl.com/yb8...
    5. What camera equipment do you use?: I film my videos with a Canon 60D using a 30mm Sigma Art Lens and I edit with Sony Vegas Pro 10 (with some help from photoshop). Additional cameras include GoPro Hero 7 Black and DJI Majic Air

    Hi, Loretta. I'm glad that you and hubby are both safe and doing well. You guys are both such inspiring people. You appear to be quite an intentional person in all that you do, even when you feel that it didn't go the way you would have liked it to go. Nevertheless, keep up the great work. Your videos allow you to become a transformational leader to others. Yes, Loretta, a bonified and intentional leader. You're always looking to improve upon your self. This is just one of a few things that I admire about you and Boomer. I have a video request for both of you. It would be nice to get to know your family and what you guy's lives are like outside the rigors of work or academic achievement.
    I pray that this is not a weird video request. Like you, I'm really exhausted from all of the bad news about the Coronavirus and the mayhem it is causing around the world. This is a great time to get acquainted with family and friends a little better while practicing safe distancing. I am one of your more older age group subscribers. So, video chats, emails, and simple phone calls just to say hi, (to my family and friends) is quite important to me in this season of the CRAZIES. Anyway, I and my colleagues are looking forward to your next video.

    THAT'S IT! Those first 3 minutes were the exact conversation I had with my hubby about wanting to take Japanese lessons. Since we communicate just fine, he doesn't understand my desire to improve, and it's at the point that he's so used to the way I speak now that he can't pick out the odd bits, even if I asked. Really, I'm not much of an online lesson person. I need face to face meetings. But I might have to check out italki!
    And your ingredient list had me laughing. The same happens to me. Start off with some properly written Japanese, then the romaji, then jump straight to spanish and ending in English. It's hard to keep it all straight, isn't it? lol

    • @sambeawesome
      @sambeawesome 4 года назад +1

      @@LannasMissingLink I was in the same boat! It gets to be really anxiety inducing, haha xD There's always the option of doing trial lessons or 30 minute lessons (if they offer it). I did that with all my tutors I've tried so far and was really glad I did! (I'll likely do that method for future ones too!) Sometimes you don't mesh and that's okay, and it's only 30 minutes if it doesn't work out. (Only had it happen once.)
      It depends on your budget, since the prices can really vary, but my three favs have been: www.italki.com/teacher/3920937 , www.italki.com/teacher/4750225 , and www.italki.com/teacher/5280339 . But don't let that stop you from finding someone else. Pay careful attention to their videos and bios, and something I learned from my one experience of not meshing with a tutor--the reviews! She had a lot of single lesson reviews (people trying her once and not returning), and when I came back a week or so later after mine, I saw she had a negative one. But you can never really know if you don't try!
      To make a session go smoother, I suggest messaging the teacher beforehand and introducing yourself while talking about your current level and goals. (No need to write an essay, just a couple sentences should do!) Gives them something to work with at the start. Wishing you the best :D

      If you peek closely at my purple food note youll see I havent got the hang of it either 😂. Really though, there arent really shortcuts. You can make little stories or visual cues to help see it but to really recall/remember kana AND kanji you really just have to write over and over. Like 10 times for ten words every night. 😂 Then again 10 years later when you're writin' notes

      Yeah kanji has been on the shelf for a while, I practice learning words that we generally would face and those that I would use, enough to get by as a tourist, but wow it's tough and just as I think I've mastered something then look up the word for validation, I'm wrong 🤣

    • @kemushichan
      @kemushichan  4 года назад +1

      Sounds like you're ready to start adding in some basic kanji!
      In some Japanese childrens books (that are all kana) there are spaces, but if you're at the point where all kana is visually hard to read, it means you're definitely advanced enough to start kanji!
      Kanji are the characters at the beginning of words to tell you what it means AND to tell you a new word has started. The same word may end in kana(usually verbs) or will be followes by a particle.
      Come join the dark side 😍

    Im an italki Japanese teacher who gave 5000 lessons. Your Japanese problem is not grammar points nor business expression but, intonation or pitch accent. You can speak politely, but sound like speaking informally, or speaking some kind of Japanese dialect. Japanese people when business, are trying to speak standard Japanese with standard intonation especially in Tokyo. ロレッタさんの昔のビデオで、ロレッタさんが努力してN1を取ったところを見ました。ロレッタさんは、今、日本語がぺらぺらです。あとは、イントネーションの問題だけです。

    「千切り(せんぎり)」って(2回ほど?)言っていますが、細長いものの長さを短くするときには言いません。この場合は単に「切る」かもしくは「ざく切り」かと。「千切り」は、もともと細長くない人参やキャベツなどを細長く切るときに使います。

    日本語が解るとか理解できると言うだけでは少し難しい
    貴方なら理解ができると思うのですが、文脈にエッセンスが詰まっているというか
    俳句もそうだと思うのですがその言葉から何を感じるのかが日本語
    難しいのではなく日本に浸かり混むのが大事なのでしょうか

    普通の日本語、毎日に使う日本語とビジネス日本語は全く違うんですね。敬語だけじゃ足りません。外国人の学習者として日本語が専門学生にはビジネス日本語はけっこう難しい、またそれを習わないとダメだと..
    特に日本の会社にお仕事するのに本当にそれが大事ですね。
