Hello everyone,
in this video I' m restoring my late grandma's old hand-operated bread-slicing machine. I can only estimate the age, but I think she is from the 30s. she is a barn find from my parents' place. the old kitchen aid is in poor condition and you can see particularly the time in the damp and dirty shed.
As always, I start the restoration with the complete disassembly of the vintage bread slicer. Afterwards I remove rust by sandblasting most of the parts.
Subsequently, I paint in a beautiful green-blue color.
All metal parts I have either hot blued or nickel plated. the cutting edge itself I have polished and a wave cut grinded, so that I can cut bread better.
I remade the heavily worn handle from layered plywood.
Before assembling, I tried a czech beer. This time, I tested the Gambrinus premium 12.
I hope you have once again fun with the restoration video.

I think this is your best video, by far 👌👍🏻
So nice of you to be here everytime. Love your work and your attention to detail. So I really value your feedback. Best regards to the east my friend

Loved the part where the pieces "chose what they wanted" that stop motion animation would have taken a lot of time and effort!
Yes but it was fun editing it and seeing the parts move for themselves. So worth it 😁
That was adorable
My favorite part is how it switched on them in the end.
It was very well made. Awesome videos as usual
That blue is BEAUTIFUL! I absoluely love it!
Great storytelling! 🥳
Yeah someone told me while having a beer to show more of my workshop 😉 I took his advice eventhough this guy is kind of a lunatic 😂
My grandma died less than a month ago, and restoration videos are one of the only things keeping me going through not only the sadness, but also the fallout after she died. There are so many things of hers and my grandpa's that I would love to restore. I think you've done a wonderful thing and your grandmother would be proud.
Thank you very much and my heartfelt condolences
@@NTRprojects Wow, thank you.
Glad to see that family “heirlooms “ means something!! Great job!!!
This is your best video since sliced bread.
I wish my grampa was still alive to share your videos with him. He he loved hand tools and restoring thins but he didn't speak english so your videos would had been ideal.
pure Meditation!
Diese Maschine hätte einen festen Platz in meiner Küche. Top! . Das Brot, eine Scheibe Schinken und das Bier, was willst du mehr, thats real life.
Yes 👍 I agree 🍺 🎉
Oh, I remember them from the 1970s [Germany]. brings me back to my childhood. Well done, so lovely to watch.
Glad to hear that it woke up some memories. Thank you for watching and commenting dingo
Without exaggeration, I can say that this video is the greatest thing since since sliced bread
echoing everyone else's love for the slicer but yoooooooo that *bread* though. that looks amazing
thank you for sharing
Thank you for watching
That is the COOLEST handle I have ever seen!
What a beautiful tribute to your Granny. I know she's smiling at you for this. A beautiful restoration, gorgeous color, and it works perfectly. Nicely done, beautifully filmed, well told. Thanks for sharing this, Dr. B. (And I'm sure MM didn't mind you making a new one! 🤣) And tell your girlfriend how delicious that bread looked. Made my mouth water!
Hey Vickie there you are. Thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed it. I let my gf know that you liked the bread so much, she will be thrilled
Beautiful art dr. Beer
I have no doubt that this slicer looks better now than when it was new!
You are 50% scientist, 50% strategist, 100% artist!
Extraordinary video ! Thank you, I really enjoyed it.
Well that was just pretty freaking terrific! Things I loved? The attention to detail, the handle you made, that your sand blaster has some guts and doesn't just spit sporadically, the finished piece and the old smoke box working out so well as a painting cabinet. Things I didn't love? The icky feeling in my stomach when you had the blade on the machine and it was spinning while you held the sand paper on it and then you had a bloody knuckle... Yeah. That was pretty much all I didn't like. LOL Awesome job. ❤️
Hey Sadie. I know it was tight and all but it was still terrifying to work on the spinning blade. The knuckle I hurt however while clamping the multitool to the lathe 😅
Better than new. We had the same type of bread slicer, with an arrangement to alter the width of the slices. Never realized how much work there was involved to make such a simple gadget. Vediograpy was excellent.
Excellent and pretty restoration
What a perfect bread🍞🥖. Ohhh I mean what a perfect video😂😂😂
Seriously now it's amazing. All this effort coming to a great result. I really admire your videos❤❤❤
Keep on👏👏👏
beautiful restoration, 👌👌👌👌
Stunning work!
Es macht mir großen Spaß dir zu zuschauen!👍😊😍
my new favorite channel ♥
Welcome to the channel Macky
Great restore! Best invention since before sliced bread. For a lead test, where's Superman when you need him?
Very very good outcome .
And the handle is the Knaller 🧨
Very nice restoration, sir! There was lots of work for that little item. Looking forward to seeing your next project. Be safe.
Your restorations just get better and better, Doc! Thanks for this one. Lovely.
Thank you for coming back Matt
Man! You've outdone yourself this time Doc!! I don't know where to begin??? You've made Granny proud to begin with. I'm sure she would love it. The color is amazing. The nickel and blued parts turned out nicely, especially the nickel, you do an awesome job at that. Notches in the blade was a nice touch. The bread looks delicious and was a great finish to the video. I really appreciate this one!!!
To finish a good job with beer - it's a nice idea! 😂
I love to see old appliances restored and used again. It's almost like having family from long ago with me again. I loved this restoration so much, even the color made it really wonderful to want to use again. I could so easily use one of these. From what I can see it definitely resembles the type Ritter made in the late 1800's/early 1900's, It's the only one I found that has the table attachment with it but honestly don't know for sure. All the others are simply "table top" types, just sitting there. I had never seen one before and as an American I grew up with sliced bread. Having lived in Belgium for the last 7 years now, I have been so spoiled with the fresh baked breads. Thanks for your care with preserving lovely memories.
Hey grace I answered your comment twice now but it's not getting through. Thank you so much for your informations. Such a lovely feedback in general. Really made my day
@@NTRprojects Please don't worry. That you bothered to like my comment was enough. I know I am only one of a huge amount of people who enjoy what you do. The beer tasting has me a bit intrigued though so I love the chuckle I get when you rate them. Thanks for such great content. 😄
If I had all the tools you have, I could restore the bread slicer from my grandmother which I still have. The blade is a bit rusty and I don't know how to clean it without chemicals.
Mine is older than yours, we used it when I was a child in the 70 until we brought sliced bread.
I love to watch restoration videos and I am never disappointed. I learn a lot and your restorations are very good.
Wonderfull job. Thanks.
What a great job!
The work done on the handle is simply stunning.
And the detail of the alignment of the screws (22:37) shows a great love of detail.
Ah. The bread looks tasty.
Hey Jaime it also is really tasty. Thank you for watching again
Your Grandma would be very proud of you.😊 Love your videos. Educational AND Entertaining.
Nice restore bro :)
I can't believe I missed this one. The finished restoration was not only beautiful, but improvements to its performance were enhanced! Everything was well done, andaffirms your skill, and patience. Thank you for posting!
This is the most beautiful bread slicer I’ve ever seen. My grandma in Germany had one just like it. I always hoped to get it some day, sadly never happened. I was devastated, it would have meant the world to me. Thank you for the upload. ❤️🙏🫶🏻❤️🙏🫶🏻
I'm glad you showed it in action. Cool wheel bread🥰
Seeing old things look new again makes it easier to imagine being back in time 😁
Totally agree frank. And I don't know if I communicated that at all, but for me this is my personal interest when I start a new project. I want to get a feel for the product when it was once new. Glad you share this feeling
Nicely done sir!
Awesome, awesome restoration!!! Better than new (And better looking)!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I enjoyed your use of the lathe to sharpen the blade.
That little animation was fun to watch! The color is excellent. I think your oma would be proud.
Hey Becky good you liked it as well. Always nice to hear from you
Oh wow, I think your Granny would be extremely proud of the life you put back into this piece, great restoration 👍
Also, that bread looked incredible 😍
I hope they have RUclips up there and she will see the video 😊
Beautiful restoration, Grandma would be proud.
Damn! This is so relaxing and satisfying.
That colour blue is stunning!
I think so too!
Diese Brotschneidemaschine kenne ich auch noch von meinen Großeltern 😎👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Glad you bought new gloves. Safety 1st. I love these antique tools put back in serviceable condition. I hope they get some use.
Another perfect job.
Tolle Lackierung, fast wie gepulvert!👍👏
Even without poetry a german "Gedicht". Great work.
Amazing work. Loved the stop motion animation. Blue was a perfect choice.such a pleasure to watch. ❤️
A video from my favorite restoration channel on Wednesday night... my day is made. Thank you!
I saw you start stacking the plywood for the handle and thought "This is gonna be awesome!" Then it was left unstained and I thought "Well, it looks like plywood. Bummer." But the rest of the project was outstanding!!!
Lathes and nickle plating are 2 of my favorite things, along with sandblasting and perfect paint. Awesome!
THAT WILL BE ON OF THE BEST BEERS IN EUROPE 😆😆😆
NICE WORK, LOOKS GREAT, KEEP SAFE
Thank you Bob as always you're amazingly fast
@@NTRprojects I'M ALWAYS IN A HURRY TO WATCH A GOOD VID...LOL..
Mate that is very nice restoration !👌👌👌
Et cela nous enchante à la façon d'une œuvre d'art. Merci 😌
nickel and another great job
Thank you Bob
Brilliant job and the blue colour was really nice. I like the attention to detail and in lining up the screws properly. A sign of a craftsman. I make my own German bread and cut it with a bandsaw. Is the only way.
Awesome addition of the brass!
loved the restoration, the stop motion humour and how you aligned the screws to match, my ocd thanks you. hahaha
And it'll last another 100 yrs ..well done!
Great video,I enjoy seeing restoration of older kitchen implement’s,looks like my grandma had way back when.keep it up 👍👍👍😎😎😎
That handle is SO PRETTY I love it!!
Hey Anna so glad to hear that you liked it so much. I also love it. Plywood is underrated I think the layers are just meant to be highlighted more often
That is now a wonderful useable kitchen appliance, even if it is only for special occasions. Thanks for sharing. 😁😁👍🇨🇱🇺🇸
Great video - really neat old bread slicer that. I really like that you kept some of the original wood and the character of the piece.
Great to hear that you liked my approach to the restoration Fred
As you said, perfect restoration ,no more words from me !!!👍👍👍❤❤❤👌👌👌
love this very much!
I happened upon this channel and i am loving it. I love how you show the process and i end up learning so much. For example (i am just a layman), I never knew that you had to polish after nickel platting. I always assumed it came out polished like that from the bath. So thank you for the efforts. I am learning and getting entertained. Also your videos are soothing. Bringing the old back to life in all its glory. So thanks. I am loving your videos.
Excellent
Good job, man, good job.
The handle does look amazing!
superb work…. as always.🔨⛏️🔩⚒️🛠️🔧👍
Gambac! My favorite beer from the Czech Republic! Czechia.
That’s the best thing since sliced bread.
Ein schönes Bier aus unserem Nachbarland 🤤🤤👌🏻🍻. Bestes Bier Grüße aus der sächsisch-böhmischen Schweiz 🙋🏼♂️
Sooo happy to see another great video from Dr.Beer! I'm hypnotised by your amazing work! Keep it up dude!
I will. Working in the shop already Michael
A very neat and clean work.
Painting and finishing was awesome.
Super Arbeit. Respekt!
Beautiful restoration. It is perfect.
Thank you John
Triple A video! Nice editing and nice restoration, and that blue color was amazing
Beer and bread! What could be better?!
Beautiful restoration, the paint job and nickel plating was on point!
But I am very surprised that the paint stripper you used worked so good for you. I had that one too and it smelled so bad and didn’t really work for for me 😅 but good for you!
Stay healthy doc 👍🏼🙏🏼
Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I'm really not getting behind this mistery as well my friend
@@NTRprojects It probably depends on the paint that was used 🤷🏻
Nice slicer, nice bread...
Thank you 😊
I loved every step of this. And I also loved the nod to My Mechanics 😂😂
Beautiful work!
Fantastic job love the handle very beautiful enjoyed the video 📹 thanks have a wonderful day 💗
Thank you Mary
good show! not every day you can see properly aligned screw head slots.. beer is looking good too!
I love this! I wish I had one of these at home so when my dad an I do make bread we could have amazing fresh sliced bread. Oh well I will just have to be envious 😂
This was clearly a labour of love. It turned out amazing! Very well done. Wanna try the beer too now 🤤
Thank you Patrick
Good to see you dress the screws, not many people do.Thanks for the show.
Better stop motion than Robocop had.
Whereever she is Nanny is proud...
Awesome job on the bread slicer. Works like a charm as well. Good work.
