I am always skeptical that a guitarist could do this song justice, but this guy not only easily nailed the solos but did a very impressive job improvising after the fade!! Skunk Baxter & Denny Diaz are geniuses & their work on Countdown to Ecstasy always engages my attention. Bravo to this entire group!!
I've never heard of these guys. Great Humorous Band Name. Outstanding Instrumentation. Those Horns Rock, The Guitarist is astounding - and I have been a studio guitarist from Manhattan to California and a lot of places in between - and this guy is amazing! Wow! What a great Band. I feel sorry for whoever had to map out all of those Horn Parts by listening to the Dan's Records. The General Public doesn't have the slightest idea what goes into making a Band like this happen. It is almost impossible to convey the amount of "Blood, Sweat & Tears" (forgive The Pun) that make these shows work. 3 Thumbs Up.
Lead Vocal guy was just along for the ride........Need to hold auditions, fire that guy, these guys are going places!!! Move on big...the guy is gone. Duly noted.
The guitar player is phenomenal. He didn't play the solos note for note like the original (like most great players covering this song) but in the correct style, made the leads his own. A very difficult task to do this good! Kudos for this excellent version. I have never seen a better one than this.
These guys truly are "Old School"...and that guitarist is incredibly funky and "Skunky"...the horns are awesome...terrific job, on a hard -to- duplicate masterpiece!
Our band used to do this song back in the 70's- we only had one sax player but our guitarist killed the solos like this guy. Glad I found you guys. Most excellent.
I love this bands work. I only recently found their youtube videos and they are a must listen too. There are many brilliant cover bands working now who are as good if not better than the original bands. This, I think, is because they are musicians and not products of marketing.
The Steely Dammed 2... Hands down the greatest Steely Dan cover band on Earth... We're so lucky here in San Diego to have these fabulous musicians... Thanks to Hank and all of his band members.... If you get a chance when in San Diego usually every summer June/ July they play at the belly up...
Damn, that instrumental duel between Hank and the horns starting at 4:49 is what this song is all about. Unbelievably faithful to Skunk Baxter's lead guitar and Jimmie Haskell's brilliant horn arrangement.
@@jb-ik8sj The crazy thing is that Denny Dias (rhymes with bias) is the reason Steely Dan exists. He put an ad in New York's Village Voice newspaper looking for a bass and keyboard player "with jazz chops"" and Becker & Fagen answered that ad. They soon took over Denny's band.
@@jb-ik8sj Denny Dias plays the first solo In "Bodhisattva" and Jeff "Skunk" Baxter the second. In the summer of 1973, I remember thinking that I had never heard rock and roll played with that kind of musical precision before.
Certainly one of Steely Dan's best songs nicely performed. I'll be back in the San Diego area in a few weeks where I understand this band plays at Hennessey's on Tuesday nights in La Jolla. Looking forward to seeing them play live.
Steely Dan is the only band that can make you laugh and cry at exactly the same time. No onecompares to there talent and writing skills. Amazing one of a kind artists. Cheer
The rest of this cover was so spot-on and brilliant that I feel a little bad for noticing that the lead vocals were not quite perfect. But no blame attaches; I certainly couldn't imitate Fagen's voice myself. Props to the guitarist for exactly nailing Skunk Baxter's manic playing, and to the whole band for capturing the playful funky energy of the original.
Excellent performance and I have always liked Steely Dan and this song - it's a big treat to see the actual performance for the first time. I dream of that guitar solo.
I think the "Skunk" would approve. I used to turn my stereo up as the song faded out because there was a lot to hear. Plus I liked it loud, and the Advents really liked loud too.
As sonically good as it can be,Excellent pure, performance, superb from note to sweet note.Very entertaining, with astonishingly precise crisp, clarity, and fine linear musicality.Walter Becker, would be proud,of you "old schoolers".Bravo!
there are lots of famous guitar players and (to me 4 real guitar gods...hendrix, vaughn, kath and betancourt) and then there are several who deserved fame they never got. back in 89 i was in a traveling band that did several jobs a year in dallas. on an off night we went into a club called emerald city. i was astounded by the guitar player. not only was he matching all the best i ever heard lick for lick, he played one song left handed, the next right handed. in the middle of the next song, he started the song left handed then turned his guitar over and was playing a left handed guitar upside down right handed. i always expected to see him world famous. no clue why he never made it.
I had to travel to Solana Beach for work and stayed in Del Mar. My buddy and I went to this seafood place on the beach and when we left we heard some great music. It was The Sleely Damned! This was quite some time ago now and I think there were only about ten people on stage. Lol
I don't know who's having more fun: those on the stage or the ones in the audience.

Geez..This was fantastic!! I'm sure Donald Fagin would approve.
Hank Easton is a beast
That's Hank Easton and apparently he plays there every Thursday
Amazing performance! My favorite Steely Dan song. Best cover I have ever heard.

Agreed. 100%. That's why Fagan and Becker never did concerts. This had to be hard as hell and they make it look so easy😊
You are so right!
Simply - FANTASTIC! Steely Dan my favourite band of all time! You guys absolutely nail it! Please come and tour the UK!
Horns nailed it. Vocals nailed it. Drummer nailed it. Guitar welded it.

Yeah, but neither does Skunk Baxter.

Jesus!!! These folks are GOOD! I am a HUGE Dan Fan, and I’ve never seen anyone come this close.
Amen Thomas. Fun band to see live!!! The guitar/horns really rock.
@@cryan004 see Lexington Lab Band's version. A little more true to the original.

The best part is California tumbling into the Sea LOL
The phenomenal guitarist could join Steely Dan any day
WOW! ... just f'n WOW! So well done, super tight, awesome guitar solo!!! Backup singers nailed it! Horn section rocked it!
What a hard band to cover. I'm a 50 year musician and I am impressed 👍👍👍
Have I heard Leonid n friends cover this?? Sounds exactly like SD
This is what I'd like to do. Play in a band having so much fun. I love to watch these people. Can't help but smile.
It's hard work....trust me. But it is like nothing else

Lordy the guitarist is on fire, what a great lineup
Hank Easten is a master on that guit-fiddle. He also does reeling in the years, black cow and many more. I would like to see him do bodhisattva...
Damn!! That was incredible! I’m a huge fan of Steely Dan from day one and I can honestly say this is some of the best I’ve seen and heard. 👍🏻✌🏻

Outstanding. Put a smile on my face.
Great "In the pocket" feel. Great guitar solo tribute, quoting here and there. Great Donald Fagen vox tribute. Great looking fem vox bax singer.
Masterclass. Props to the drummer - takes the poetic license to swing the beat by 15% or so. Brings it alive!
