  • Last Friday (24th May) I spent the day at Glastonbudget. This is the UK’s biggest tribute festival and is located on a random farm in Leicestershire.
This year the festival is under new management and with it, changes were made. So what did I think of said changes? Watch my review to find out.

I agree with the idea of listing the next bands in the side screen each gap between performers .
They could state what is on at the big top next too.
Lincs loos guys were fantastic lovely ,upbeat, and Full of banter.
Shame you couldn't make sunday, ive been banging on about them having the Carpenters experince for years, and Sunday morning, I think everyone realised why. Simply superb, the best of the weekend.
We have been coming for many years and I know 6 maths ago the whole.futire if the event was in doubt,so I appreciate it being taken up and expected a few niggles.
It's 60th days for a few of us( mine that week),50th for others next year so looking forward to celebrating.
What absolutely needs to be added:
1/ The mobility built up platform over the sound deck. Those in wheel chairs would need to rely on the screens at main stage thsi year.
2/We need a return of the 2 toileting areas for none VIP, or have a 50% increase of the port-a-loos in the one toileting area.
3/in lieu of the 2 small stages ,maybe add just one ( like the marquee one they used to have) just for local bands.
Most of all the carpenters late Sunday afternoon Main Stage !

I totally agree with your suggestions. Including there being a guide for the big top. Last year, there had a giant timetable in the VIP bit which was great so something like that dotted around for people who didn’t download the app (it was only announced last week ) would help.
I think the mobility and accessibility as a whole was a big thing that people flagged. So I’m sincerely hoping that:
      1. It gets rectified and disabled people/carers are part of the shaping process.
      2. Said accessibility measures are advertised and clearly communicated in the lead up to the festival.

See the mud was squishy on Friday but not quite stick the ground level. I ended up wearing my winter boots to help with this. 😂
Did you find yourself comparing this festival to last year’s?

A good and fair review, I would add that I really enjoyed the bands and as usual the people who attend are great. However, VIP was an absolute rip off this year, I also hate the token system which wasn't in the VIP bar previously, the toilets and the showers in the VIP campsite were dreadful, no entertainment in the VIP bar afterwards and it was quicker to get served in the normal bar. Main stage constantly late so acts were cut short and lighting dreadful, I am definitely considering going elsewhere next year.

Thanks for the kind words. I agree that the people were great. I just ended up randomly chatting to people whilst waiting for the acts to finally start. 😂
I asked why the VIP bar was using tokens when I met with their PR team. Their explanation was that last year, the VIP bar and Standard bar were being ran by two completely separate companies and thus there were issues when one bar ran out of a drink. This year, all the bars were ran by the same company hence the token system.
I think the after 11pm entertainment needs to be advertised more and other options should be available outside of “pay a fiver each night for the silent disco (plus the £10 deposit)” or go back to your gents.
What a shame regarding the VIP showers and loos. Last year, the loos were great. 😔

@@mymelton9972 I agree, last year the VIP set up was great, toilets and showers were perfect and the bar ran much better. This year on the Saturday evening the VIP bar ran out of all ales and bitters, only Lager and Cider on offer so still issues of one bar running out of drink. When they are charging £280 for a VIP ticket (more than the price of a ticket to the Isle of Wight Festival) I don't think it is unreasonable to expect working showers, more than a total of three cubicles in the Gents toilets for the whole campsite and a bar that you can get served at least a little quicker than the normal bar. I walked round from the VIP bar to the normal bar more than once and was served quicker. I have been a few times with a group and really enjoyed it, the atmosphere is usually great, the people who go are really friendly and just having fun. I also agree with your comments about security, much worse this year, queue's to get in from the VIP campsite, I am 64 and one guard spent over 30 seconds searching through my wallet, if they are going to body search everyone, they need more people, I believe they were mainly trying to stop people sneaking drink into the arena to try and make them spend more at the bar. I have messaged the organisers to see if they will reply to my questions before I post a review, but if you have contacts I would be interested to see what they say.

Just to let you know it must of been made clear to you by the organisers that the old organizers were making a loss every year and 2023 would have been the last year it happened also the owner of gigantic who run it now put £500,000 of his own money into this year so give them a break I've been going since 2013 and think this was one of the best years

Hi Mark. This is very interesting information that wasn’t really made that public TBH (nothing was actually said to me when I met with their PR team) and I think if it was, there would be some grace from people far more critical than I. Specifically the group that said they straight up would never come back again which if you’ve invested 500k isn’t exactly the feedback you want to be receiving. I wasn’t one of those people and I conclude the video by saying you should book 2025 and I very much look forward to covering 2025 to see what changes have been made following public feedback.
In my opinion decisions regarding where Fell Out Boy and Fakeboy performed have little to do with costs since they were booked same time/close to same time. As was the decision about the token system. Infact I would argue that if one scrapped the system, the festival would actually make more money because people like me would just go to the bar, beep the card machine and then go about their day, as opposed to waiting in 2 lines. Something that’s really frustrating when you only want one singular drink.
Things like updating the timings after the delays don’t cost that much if anything. As I said in the video, the organisers could’ve just added something on the screens or worst case scenario have the person in between sets read out the new timings. It leads to the communication aspect, something we were all crying out for before and during the festival.

I know you say 2024 was one of your best years but would you say it was your all time favourite? If not which year was and why?
If this year was your favourite year, what did you like about this year that wasn’t present in previous ones?
