  • I started this Vlog series to help National Guard Infantry officers have a better understanding of IBOLC and give some tips and experiences I've had while going through it.
Week One is all in-processing. If you've been in the Army at all, you know how that goes; long lines, waiting, and filling out a million forms. This video will share some things that I've experienced over the past week and give you some info about lodging.

Nice! Made the drive myself 2 years back, from NC to FBGA for the exact same thing! Enjoy it man, and good luck. See if Old Hickory can reserve a Bradley Leaders Course. Are you 120th or 252nd?

Hey Leo. I'm in the 120th. I'm nearly guaranteed a BLC slot since I'm a BC, but shooting to earn a Ranger slot here first while I can get NGB to pay for it. Where are you these days? Still in NC? Thanks for the view!

Grayson Greco Still reside in NC, but after I commissioned I transferred to the VA Guard. When I was enlisted, I was down with A/1/120.

Grayson Greco small world. I honestly had this strange feeling you'd say that, I knew the last PL there before he left for Alaska. I'm actually considering on putting in a transfer back to old hickory. keep up the vids man, and again good luck with IBOLC.

Hey man I will be reporting for IBOLC on 5March. I am also in the NG. I just have a couple of questions.
    1) Are we required to stay at Abrams Hall?
    2) As far as switching from NG to active i heard that if you ask your chain of command while at BOLC then they will be able to switch you from NG to active is that true?
    3) Are you separated from active duty soldiers?
    4) How are the classes when it comes to learning information? Is everything taught out the Ranger handbook?

      Shamar,
      1) no, but you'd be dumb not to and bank the BAH.
      2) talk to your cadre when you get there. They will point you in the right direction. I'm sure a simple google search will explain a lot too. Your BTN commander needs to sign off too, I believe.
      3) Nope. And this is a good thing. Tons of great guys there. You will learn a ton from all walks of life. Keep an open mind and don't be a prick.
      4) Some of the classes are awesome, some garbage. It's the Army. Death by PPT is standard. You will learn the most from your cadre when you're in the field. Also, if you have former enlisted soldiers in your PLT, soak up their knowledge.
      God bless.

Thanks for the advise on IBOLC living conditions. Heard you say it’s a IHG hotel, wonder if I can get the points for my extended stay there 😂😂😂😏

Were you (or are you) forced to join Ranger School?
I am in the process of going to Federal OCS for the NG and they think I'd branch chem or infantry. I wouldn't mind Infantry, but it looks like some big shoes to fill, and they said they'd send me to Ranger School for that extra leadership experience.

You are not forced, but an Infantry Officer who doesn't want to go to Ranger school might be in the wrong branch. It's an incredible opportunity, especially in the Guard. Like I mentioned in other videos, some states will send you. Mine will not. That's why I have to earn it while I'm here. If your recruiter is saying you can go to Ranger school, that smells fishy to me especially since you're not guaranteed to branch IN. You could get ordinance for all you know. Needs of the Army prevail. Your preferences are taken into account, but secondarily. Thanks for the question and the view!

Well, he didn't guarantee me to branch Infantry, but rather he was just telling me what I'd up against branching X branch.
I'm curious if soldiers look at the Ranger tab as a de facto standard for infantry leadership, because I'll probably encounter people that have done deployments and/or done active duty and probably don't think much of a green Lt. that goes straight to the NG.

Jakub Rosman i know this is late but to answer your question yes especially lower enlisted see the Ranger tab and automatically see you in a better light than a cherry LT with no tab
