Great step by step instructions!!! Following along, I was able to perform practice pitch shots like I used to, many years ago.( Living in southern Ontario I'm indoors using whiffle balls)my short game had escaped...practically non-existent except for the occasional good chip. Having viewed and tried countless u tube videos ...yours brought me back 25 years, Thank you! I can now practice the right way. Will stay in touch... Jack...with any luck, we'll be on the course early April

Nice video. great explanation on how to hit the wedge and I like the gate idea to practice.

Great video - thanks! It looks like you have a 58 or 60 degree wedge - is that correct? Do the gate calculations change depending on what wedge you are using? I'm guessing not since the key criteria is launch angle so it would just be a matter of how much you de-loft each particular club? Distance is thereby controlled by swing speed, correct?

Thank you. We used a 60 degree in this video. The calculations wouldn’t change bc you’re looking for a launch window of 30 degrees or less but spin has to be maintained too. You can’t simply aim for one while sacrificing the other. Keep those two metrics in mind or as something to shoot for. When Jon Sinclair did his tests of the best short games on the PGAT he found the ideal launch and spin characteristics fit into this window. Dr Rob Neal found the same. But the clubs used by players varied.

i9nverse tangent of 5/9 in degrees is just under 30 deg. Good tool...

For most of us we would be doing this on a driving range, with really hard and bad range balls. I've testing many range balls on gc3 vs a premium ball and it's going to be virtually impossible to launch a range ball under 30 degrees. The cover is just too firm so the ball slides up the face crazy. So if you're trying it on a range understand the range ball adds many limitations

I love the application of quantitative physics, but there is no way that ball went under the pool noodle! Correct me if I'm wrong! Can you do it again with a camera angle to eliminate or reduce the parallax?

We wish we had camera that were that good.
