Thieves stold my 2007 Prius with a Tow truck, I'm so thankful I had this shield, I had the advanced one where they can't reach around also. The car was recovered at a later date but the converter was still there. They had time to try and cut it out if they wanted too but this shield still deterred them from trying.

This is good to slow them down. Better than nothing, just like a lock on your car door. You can only do so much to deter a thief. Considering how much the converters for these cars go for I say it is worth it.

The SS screw heads (with 5 point security heads... never seen those anywhere else) are inset inside the shield so it would be a devil to get a grinder on them. Hi roadstarr, Cat Security can be removed without damaging the shield nor the vehicle. Once the repairs are complete, the tech can reinstall the shield. As long as the vehicle is on a car lift and fully elevated so the tech can work standing up, the process is relatively straight forward. The tech will need new fasteners for the reinstallation, but only the shield is proprietary, so if the shield need to be re-installed multiple times, it won't be a problem.

    • @munozauto6220
      @munozauto6220  2 года назад +1

Hi boxhead, if it's rattling with the spacers installed, it sounds like it wasn't installed correctly. We had a case in which there wasn't enough clearance and the shield was rattling against the cat. We had to remove the shield and adjust our installation in order to ensure the proper clearance.
Also, installation requires multiple length rivets. If a pair were to be switched during installation, that could result in unwanted noise.
If you are mounting the shield metal on metal, you'll be more likely to experience noise over time. Aside from road vibration pulling on the rivets, any direct impacts to the shield would likely cause enough play to start rattling. The spacers give you a buffer before distortion of the contact points generates noise.

Hi Jeff, good question. We did have one installation which was causing noise and we determined it was due to a clearance issue between the cat and the shield itself. We had to maneuver the shield when re-installing in order to maintain proper clearance and prevent the shield from making contact.
Impact on sound is one of the main reasons why we recommend shields over other deterrents such as chains or straps. Regardless of the manufacturer, no shield should be increasing the volume of the sound. If that's the case, it's making direct contact with another component in an unintended manner.

@@munozauto6220 thanks for the feedback, when you say maneuver did you put something in between the cats and shield or simply pulled the shield down slightly with a plier?
Also wondering how hard to remove these shield in the future if you dont want it anymore or selling your car? I see they are riveted instead, thanks again for your helpful inputs here boss.

    • @munozauto6220

Hi Jeff, that specific model required the tech bend the unit prior to installation. We just had to reshape the bend to ensure enough clearance.
The bend was noted in the instructions, but there was still a bit to figure out on your own to ensure proper clearance.
As far as the removal procedures, the ease of doing so will vary depending on the model. That said, when determining which deterrents we would recommend to our customers, one of the main factors was the ability to remove and reinstall the unit should maintenance be required on the exhaust system. There is labor involved, but it doesn't require plasma cutting or anything that drastic since you don't need to weld on the shield when installing.

The only good here is that the thief would be surprised, and maybe befuddled by the shield system being there. 1. Make sure the catalytic converter still has proper ventilation. Restricting airflow will cause damage.
      2. Be aware of any changes to your ground clearance. For lower vehicles in particular, ensure that anything you install will ride high enough to drive safely if facing a steep driveway or uneven road.

Hi Robert, we're an independent auto shop located in Santa Barbara, not a distributor of the Cat Security, so any quote we are able to provide would be based on bringing your car into our shop for us to do the installation. If you happened to be local, feel free to call the shop tomorrow or use the online scheduler anytime at MunozAuto.com and we'll follow up with you.
That said, the price will vary depending on the make and model of the vehicle. As shown in this video, Cat Security for the Toyota Prius is more like a shield, where as Cat Security for the Honda Element is more like a cage (as seen in the "Speed, Speed, Speed" video).
Also, the installation procedure will change depending on the specifics of the vehicle. For instance, some Elements present clearance issues, which require a different installation procedure from other Elements.
