Dunure is also a lovely wee place to visit on your way, plus the Heads of Ayr Farm Park for the kids is fantastic. Beautiful family. ❤

Hey Mac, you must by now understand why travelling the length of the UK is such a big deal. Any Americans I've engaged in conversation fail to grasp that distance isn't the only factor, they usually come back with comments like "Hey bud, we travel across the state just to go shopping".
Our roads aren't as straight as those in the US and petrol (gasoline) prices don't cause palpitations at the thought of a journey the length of the UK.

Thursday and Friday at the Highland Show tends to be the farmer days. Lots of business done on agricultural equipment. Saturday and Sunday would be more of the family days. Sunday is my favourite because they have the 6 horse heavy turnout and the parade of champions. Also have the livestock parade and a lot of the finals of the competitions. Finals of a lot of the show jumping. Finals of the farrier competition at the forge. I always go on the sunday for the 6 horse heavy turnout. They had 5 teams of 6 horses this year. Very few shows in the UK are able to attract teams of 6, so to get 5 teams turning out this year was pretty awesome.

You can take a subject people may not have a natural interest in and make it compelling. You have yet to mention your kids' schools, however, and how they are adapting to the curriculum and having local friends. Btw, if not this year, maybe next, take in a highland games somewhere. Braemar is the most prestigious, held the first Saturday in September each year.

I can't get over how your channel name has become a self fulfilling prophecy. 9 inc. unforeseen babies x 2 and Grandma. B4 'Murica :) (artistic license).
My dad had a lot of tales about farm life, he's probably the only person that loves the smell of silage.
His dad was a ploughman from Wiltshire with his own team of Shire horses that could be hired. Ploughing wasn't all they did, they'd haul lumber, drive heavy carts, pull out tree stumps, manure pastures for free grazing, busy most of the year. Grandad went off to war in The Pioneers (front line engineers) in1939, got wounded in the retreat to Dunkirk, he lost a bicep, I'm not sure how. The army in its wisdom retrained him as an ambulance driver and mechanic.
At the end of the war after France, North Africa and Sicily/Italy he came home to find out that his craft was obsolete, all of the farms now had tractors. The generational skill he had been passed down about what types of furrows were needed for different crops and animal (horse) welfare was now all mechanised, no skill needed. But... he knew how to service and fix them and their attachments, one hand taketh, the other giveth. My dad has fond memories of playing on farms on sunny days as his dad tinkered away in a barn. His love of farms and horses meant he trained as a blacksmith but modern life took over. He still volunteered with the National Parks as a warden on weekends though. You couldn't keep him out of a field or off a hillside. I have a great memory of us being trapped in a white out (blizzard) in Northumberland and sheltering in a cave that shepherds used.
Anyway, good to see you and fam' still in touch with the Earth, but tractors? Boooo!
